Inside Abandoned Walmart Garfield Heights, OH

Ойын-сауық

Inside Abandoned Walmart Garfield Heights, OH. This store opened in late 2006 only to close less than 2 years later. Built on an old landfill, this place was doomed before it was even completed. Enjoy this extensive look!

On September 15, 2008, Walmart Stores Inc. announced that it would be closing the Garfield Heights Wal-Mart store permanently because of ongoing safety concerns at the site, including structural problems and potentially explosive methane gas related to the disused landfill beneath the site.

I'm glad they abandoned those stores in that shopping center because it's very dangerous to build a big shopping center on top of a landfill that can make people very very very sick and it's just not safe what a shame

This Walmart was built at a very specific time frame, after the company started adopting new signage for the store (such as the enter and exit signs above the doors) but before they changed the logo. The roofs on all Walmarts are tiled down towards the back to help with drainage when it rains, you just never notice it. I wonder who the developer of this is and if they are going to be held financially responsible for this. Going around on Google Maps, there are a couple of buildings that aren't even finished yet that have been abandoned. What a mess, are there any demolition plans? I can't imagine this whole thing just sitting for years.

Hi if you don’t know Walmart has been around since 1962 the owner of Walmart Sam Walton You better not think about itThis Como has been around since 1991 is called Sam’s Cola then the reason why it’s called Sam’s Cola it’s because it’s named after Sam Walton because it’s a Walmart brand stands up on the American map of all the Walmarts that have been around since 1962 to me I think it’s better than just hanging around at Chuck E. Cheese all night because being at Walmart you bought all the things you want just like Walmart said in the 2010 body style of the trailer of the truck that would go around on the highway in the road Walmart save money live betterYou can see that I know this because it is that I was born in 2010 my name is Andrew and my age is 10 years old because you can see that aLittle entrance of the store goes to a big worldwide nation of America to go around and everybody shops you know this can be something that I would explain to y’all I live in North CarolinaAnd in Forest city North Carolina right near my house I live in rutherfordton North Carolina In Forest city North Carolina there is a Walmart And I think that maybe if they word to keep the 90s style Walmart to this day I would experience what it would look like

There's an abandoned Wal-Mart here in Macon, Georgia which closed in 2000 that would be really cool to get inside of but unfortunately it's summertime here now and that means wasps everywhere, plus it is connected to a still (barely) operating shopping center in one of the roughest parts of town...

Building on landfills is done often but has to be done right. There’s a 2 foot clay barrier and footings under the building that go down to the bedrock. But obviously that wasn’t good enough. I’m wondering if they built too soon and the garbage wasn’t decayed enough.

puffnstuff4004 - somewhere there was a roof access hatch, but neither Wallie or I got it on video. With the way the plaza is sinking and how long it's been abandoned and neglected, I don't think I would have gone up there.

There's a Walmart in covington GA that closed in the late 2000s, I would explore it but it's connected to actually-open stuff, and also it apparently has either lead paint or asbestos in it.

I live about 20 minutes from that Walmart and while it's not bad for adjacent stores and shops the fact of that entire strip that was supposed to be some grand shopping center is now a vacant monolith of stores on a landfill.

Good video!! Surprising with the settling parking lot pavement on the outside dropping anywhere from 1 to 4 foot in places around the walls, surprisingly that some of the foundation didn’t went under leading to some of the walls collapsing. I’d be more concerned with the green electrical transformer that is mounted of a small piece of foundation at 53:54 ( utility companies call this type of transformer in an enclosed cabinet as an ‘ pad mount transformer ‘ since the pad would be that concrete foundation base)and if that starts sinking in the ground, that might end up disturbing or pulling on the connections in the unit and lead to possible shorting or arcing. Luckily the local utility disconnect the primary circuit to that transformer or otherwise an electrical hazard in the back of the building be waiting to happen.

I worked at a SEARS Tele catalog center where we took orders for the Sears catalog in Provo Utah back in the 90s that was built on a landfill and you could have that horrible smell come up inside the building as we were at work they finally ended up shutting it down when the catalog went out of business but I know extremely well what you’re talking about hon thanks for a very interesting video

Super Fair in North Hollywood, CA was built on landfill and the 1971 Sylmar earthquake caused similar problems with cracking and sinking of building and parking lot. They built a Gemco store there and now it's a Target.

WallieB26 awesome! Ill be on the lookout to watch it in the future. There are some interesting videos of locals going there and live streaming. Its a shame how extremely horribly the environment was treated in the 60s-70s because of a lack of any regulation at all.

The Walmart in my town was abandoned, but that was because the lease expired, the village didn’t want to give them a tax break, and so they wouldn’t renew it. They then packed their bags, and built a newer, nicer one another town over.

If you are down on Canal Rd on the south side of the I480 bridge by a business called Frame Co. (I did some construction work there) you can see the back side of the buildings on the top of the hill. The area is mowed down, but it gives you an idea on how large the landfill was and how much the Engineers screwed up on thinking it was good commercial property. Other than that, I know a few places in Ohio that might interest you to explore
