Inside a Walther WSR-160

Ғылым және технология

The calculating machine of secret agents everywhere. Appropriate for me to get one, it seems.
In this video we calculate the number of seconds in a year, effectively demonstrating the merits of the automatic carriage return and back transfer mechanisms. This is a truly astounding machine.
The weapon of choice for the famous accountant, James 'Bearer' Bond.

I never thought I would find a calculator so cool or the evolution of the device I take for granted as interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Having aquired one recently I found this enlightening and a refresh of old memories having used one many years ago. Thanks for the amusing commentary.

Are you speaking to induce ASMR on purpose? Please god never change either way Also, I have had great experience with Walther and their modern guns. As well as any product of theirs from the past. Great company And despite the ASMR these are very interesting Thank you

While I admit to putting some effort in to speak clearly for the camera, I didn't really know people would get asmr from it. I was quite taken aback when people started saying my voice was nice!

Hi, How did you remove this little screws? My 160 got the problem, that when I dial "9" it jamms. So I want to remove the cover, but the screws are too tight... I tried screw-loosener spray, but it didnt work... Do you might have any idea??

My brain works backwards. 365 x24 = 8750 the number of days in a year. 8760 x 60 = 545600 the number of hours in year. 525600 x 60 = 31536000 which is the number of seconds in a year.

In all honesty, that's a more interesting way of doing it than my way, since you get more useful details about the year that way.

So glad to have just found and bought #165362 ! Only thing I can’t get working is the back transfer, the lever at the front is screwed in place and I can’t get the front plate screws off yet

Hey, I got given the same machine a couple of days ago and I find it really interesting, the only problem is that the carriage is stuck to the right and the turning handle is stuck in it's upright position. I took the panels off to take a look inside but couldn't find anything abvious. Do you have any idea of how I can fix it or have any advice on how to proceed? Thank you, Jacob. Btw I thaught this was a very good video and that it was well done, good job!

Hi, good to hear you got a cool toy! Hopefully it'll be able to become non-ornamental again. =) First of all, don't try to force anything. This might seem obvious, but worth mentioning. Small gears + brute force = broken small gear that you likely can't replace. I've only ever had success with percussive maintenance once, and that was a small, planned and controlled application of force. Now, if I were to hazard a guess, I'd say the carriage is probably ok. The handle being out of resting position will lock it in place. Chances are there's some kind of timing issue that's jammed the mechanism. Unfortunately I'd have to open my machine up to get a more detailed look at the innards to be of any help. What you could do is try to find the mechanism that locks the crank and try to release it so you can turn backwards. Try rotating the number dials to see if any of them are stuck. That might help figure out where the problem is.

1stSpyGuy Hey, I followed your advice and found what looks like a pin coming out the side of the main brass wheels on the right side of the machine. When pushed it allows me to turn some of the number wheels on the carriage that are linked to the main brass wheels. I don't know if this is helpful. I also forgot to mention that I can't change any of the numbers in the number input using the levers provided for that. Thanks for helping out, Jacob.

I think the calculator needs calibrating. There's only 60 seconds in a minute, not 3600.
