This week, we visit a beautiful apartment set in the lush environment of the iconic Arcadia. Known formerly as the Arcadia Gardens, it was designed by Singaporean architect Chua Ka Seng and Wimberly, Whisenand, Allison, Tong & Goo (WWAT&G) in 1983 and inspired by the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
Homeowners Garett and Beth-Ann were moving from a landed home, and so they still needed a space which was sufficiently large but on a single floor plate that allowed for closer family living. With the huge space, the interiors are invitingly open, and has 2 outdoor spaces too - a spacious patio in the front of the living, and another at the back of the second living room. That open nature allows for cross ventilation as well as lovely greenery views from both ends of the apartment.
We love how the apartment is designed to be so in-tune with its surroundings, and it feels like an extension of it, from the earthy colours used, to the green tiles in the bathroom. There's a wonderful balance to it all. And in the busy nature of Singapore, this tranquil oasis is really a treat to the senses.
Special thanks to Shing Hui the founder of L Architects ( / larchitects.sg ) and to Garett and Beth-Ann for taking the time to show us around their beautiful home.
Credit to Khoo Guo Jie for the fantastic shot for our thumbnail.

Hmm given me to choose I would prefer a landed freehold than a freehold huge ground floor condo for me. But to compare Arcadia, this question should be quite no brainless to choose. arcadia garden is a very old leasehold condo in prime district with almost reached out to 40 years mark the price will start to depreciate significantly. Perhaps hoping for enbloc.

The homeowner describes the greenery along the road, I can only imagine like the development is situated in some surreal twilight forest. I can catch a glimpse of the apartment's highest floor along PIE expressway, I was intrigued by the balconies which feature is lack of in newer development. Love your channel.

Thank you Susi! Yes this development is along Eng Neo there which is just beside the PIE, and it is located in quite a forested area 😂
To be really honest, this is a simple house with it's only unique feature being the space. Beautiful home that serves its function but nothing too impressive in the stacked home landscape.

Better this than another Japandi 4br BTO. I like the variety :)
I really like the spaciousness and the lush green surrounding makes it so relaxing and tranquil. The overall interior design concept is not only practical reflecting the owners' busy lifestyle but also has a certain balance. Sometimes, less is more.

its reaaally amazing. and i mean veryyyy. but i just wanna say, its not difficult to achieve this look if space isn't a constraint. I'd like to see more normal HDB but AMAZING design, and architecture, just yknow, so itll be more relatable to us folks :)

Never Too Small advocates for sustainable city living and features small houses or apartments that are usually less than 50 sqm. This is a luxury apartment with at least 100 sqm, it’s way too big to make it into Never To Small! 😅
Love the Arcadia, but houses there are 99years leasehold and priced like landed properties

Nice redesign 👍🏻 What kind of flooring is that in the living room ? Where did they reposition living room aircon? And what’s the floor/wall used in bathroom?
Lovely , home decor. How much in total for reno or frefurbishing cost ? Besides the furnishing n kitchenette. Thank you
Home is pretty. However, landed and ground floor living have some issues. As someone who has lived in landed before, i agree with the owners that it is better to have a single floor than to spread over three floors. However, critters, lizards, rats etc are common feature. landed houses or ground units get hotter faster so have spare cash for aircon bills. Big house is hard to maintain so you have to have house help and be willing to maintain things inside and outside yourself. Landed living is fabulous for privacy and parties. So there are pros and cons to both depends on what you need.
What a nice house with money make wonder.. Envy

Hey! Not really, we've featured really nice HDBs - some are spacious and renovation quite affordable too! E.g. our recent Maisonette video where only $84K was spent on the reno.
99 years + noisy, no?
@StackedHomes

Hey there! Yes that's some of the downsides I suppose! But 99-year does ensure that it's relatively more affordable than if it were freehold in tenure 👀

for such a quite exclusive enclave in land scare singapore, govt shld impose an additional levy or tax if you want to enjoy such privileged enclave.
@StackedHomes
2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! It's a pretty old development near a landed enclave, and prices are already determined by market forces. Usually "exclusive enclave" also means "far-flung" since being close to amenities and the crowd might not make it too exclusive, hence, there's no real need to set up a levy for it unless the government wants to curb this type of purchases due to say, excessive exuberance, but we can't really see that here. If we're talking in terms of curbing the purchases of large plots of empty land, we can see that there are many plots, near the Dairy Farm area for example, that's big too, and yet to date they aren't being developed on. Ultimately the high price of the land already ensures the government makes from such a sale, as it's reflected in the market price. To impose a levy implies that prices has to raised beyond market forces which we don't think is necessary in this case.
this is a very old condo spending so much on a 42 years old condo isnt really worth it, its really nice but really unnecessary renovation imagine spending so much and suddenly en blocked its not really worth it.....
@StackedHomes

Hey! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Well some people are willing to spend more, and money can be earned back - but not the quality of time you spend in your home since you only live once. Perhaps that's a risk they're willing to take 😀
Boring.
