The other day i purchased a micro 'cpap' device from Amazon. I already knew it was a scam but just wanted to look closer. I was expecting just a piece of plastic but what i received was pretty cool! Now i want to make it clear that it 100% will not treat snoring and it especially won't treat sleep apnea so don't fall for the reviews. I do, however think the general idea could potentially work with a larger style mask. Let me know what you think in the comments.
Thanks for all the love and support
Your mate always!
Uncle Nicko xo

Thank you so much for sharing this video. I've been bombarded with ads on my socials for this devices and I have to admit I was almost conviced but I had a feeling it seemed little to good to be true. As you say, the concept has merit but the technology isn't their yet.

Thank you for explaining this! I was so enthusiastic when I saw this little thing.... I'm glad to know it's a scam, at this point in time. I am however also glad that this is "in development" , because it's clearly something many people would want to use, *if* it works. Considering the fact they're microfying everything these days, this should become a reality soon!

I wish I had checked out this video before I bought one of these so called micro CPAP devices. I've been using a proper CPAP machine for over twenty years but thought it might help my son's snoring problems and like you I was amazed that anyone would actually make a working model of a CPAP device when, as soon as you switch it on, it is obvious it is a pathetic scam. Fortunately I paid for it using PayPal and their dispute resolution system put pressure on the obviously dodgy company to cough up a refund. I do wonder how many people have lost money on this scam, because they are very elusive, the web pages for returns mysteriously disappeared and when I attempted to email them I got sent a report saying that the email could not be delivered. However the financial muscle of PayPal got me my money back, although I did have to pay postage on the return. Enjoyed your video presentation by the way.

Great video! Yes, I can see as technology advances the whole device becoming an all-in-one mask. I don't think it will get as small as the scam device in my lifetime, but it will get smaller than current models.

I'm the research king and they still got me on that Airing. I saw over 3 thousand of reviews at 74% positive, pulled the trigger to give it a try. When I realized I screwed up was when I started reading the comments and noticed they were comments from a different product. They are using some scroungy tactics. And Airing themselves took off with two million dollars from crowdfunding.

Thanks for the video, it was both humorous and informative! They did get me with one of these, as I just got mine today, and having test run it a bit, it does seem to run with the fans for some hours at least (and recharge, too). The positive reviews basically got me, particularly the lady who said her husband snored like 14 Orcas, 3 grizzly bears, etc. and said this worked for him. I wonder if it at least keeps the nasal passages open / helps with snoring at all. I mean, they still sell 'Breathe Right' strips in the pharmacy aisles and those don't do squat diddly for me, either. :p

I remember there was a kick starter for these micro CPAP devices many years ago, I looked at it and thought maybe in the future but not yet and stayed away from it. Great concept though and Nick is on the right track so I think it will only be a matter of time before a hybrid mask/machine becomes a reality. I don't really see them as a daily use machine though, but for travel or camping they would do the trick.

The similar "looking" device on kickstarter did not use "fans". It was based on a micro-sized diaphragm "pump". Thousand of these micro pumps working in concert are capable of producing modest PAP pressures. The inventor leveraged Kodak film-making technology that would combine dozens of very thin layers to make a stack of diaphragms in a plastic sheet a little thicker than color film with microcircuitry embedded. Dozens of the film-thick layers were combined to make a 3d matrix of thousands of digitally addressable pumps. Each "diaphragm" was moved by cyclically applying a tiny electric charge to electrostatically pull/push the diaphragm in a pumping action. Clever :) The prototypes worked, but it seems that launching mass production using Kodak film assembly technology may have been beyond the inventor's resources$ even after raising millions from kickstarter. About 15 years ago, the devices were expected to last 1-2 months. Back then a secondary hurdle to mass production was finding a micro power supply (battery) that would last overnight. Probably wouldn't be a problem today? Sadly, at least one retailer of the "fan"-type device in this youtube include on their webpage selling "fans" a GIF from the the original kickstart inventor and a schematic of the diaphragm pump using an electrostatic charge called "microblowers". aroflit.com/products/airing-the-first-hoseless-maskless-micro-cpap Maybe someday, the PAP manufacturers will pursue the idea.

@@youni43 I just saw their site after seeing an ad for one of these devices. The site hasn’t been updated in a couple of years. Their design calls for a non-rechargeable zinc air battery that has enough power for eight hours. So one would use a new device every night because rechargeable batteries weren’t light enough! Ha! Then they were saying how easy it would be to get FDA approval because it’s not a new treatment. Their device is a new form of CPAP that would have to be tested if their device even worked at all. They just threw out some science sounding words and got a bunch of people to build replicas (or they are building the replicas themselves) in order to cash in on the desperation of some people for a better solution. The problem with everything in a mask solution is that it doesn’t work for people in dry rooms/areas whom need to have water vapour along with the air pumped to the mask. For those that have never needed the water to prevent a dry mouth or sore throat from the CPAP treatment then an all in one mask solution would be great.

A study I saw showed not a fan but dozens of individual reed valves that pull in air as they open and push it into the nose as they close. The rate of opening determined the pressure. This was considered more reliable and used less energy than fans. However, the prototype was too large and was just a proof of concept. It was expected to take a few more years to make certain the reed valves would be effective when smaller and that they could stand several days of use. Then they were supposed to be cheap enough to be disposable.

Good morning and thanks for the review. It sure looked like BS and was glad to see your review to confirm it. I sleep with a Philips replacement unit every night and would love to see something that removes the tubing from the equation. With regard to Philips, I had a few comments. I actually had two machines that were recalled, a home unit and a travel unit. Philips finally sent a replacement home unit, but never addressed the travel unit. I called them yesterday and was told that they did not yet have a solution for the travel unit. I asked if there was an option to receive compensation so that I could purchase a different travel unit. They said no. Seems incredible that they have not yet addressed it and that no one is holding their feet to the fire. It has been far too long. Regardless of their lack of a plan, I do need a travel unit. Any recommendations? Thanks again!

It’s got legs but it would lack the humification that many people need. I’m sure that could be figured out though. Interestingly, however, is that something similar with a bit more pressure could be used in conjunction with a dental appliance for severe apnea as less air pressure would be needed. Might be an idea one day for those with severe apnea that just can’t tolerate a big mask.

I recently ran into an issue with ordering a replacement Cell Phone Case & Holster... I know, what does that have to do with this... Well, it seems as if the ORIGINAL item listed on Amazon can simply be replaced by another with the same URL... When my original Holster broke, I simply ordered another using the same URL along with a coupon code from the seller to get it for free / under warranty... But, when I received it, the Case & Holster was for the "FE" version of my Phone... Thinking it was a simply order picking error by Amazon, since the item online clearly stated it was for my device, I ordered it again, and again it was the wrong one. Upon looking at the item online closer, it stated in the fine print "compatible with the FE version"... meanwhile the remainder of the posting was leading me to believe it was for my Phone. Just looking at this Anti Snoring device on Amazon Canada, and it's the same as you mention, with high ratings, but for a temperature probe, a calendar, and a handful of mixed reviews for the actual product... I LOL when I see this posted on Facebook Ads, like don't they screen out the crap? Facebook is quick to ban people / put them in "Facebook Jail" for silly little things, but fraud is perfectly fine?

Hey Nick, your last couple of videos have got me thinking!! I am certainly no physicist and so my idea probably is ridiculous but I was thinking outside of the box lol! My idea was to place small refillable canisters of compressed oxygen in a harness across the top of your head and connect that via a regulator to control the pressure via a tube to either a mask or my preference the nasal pillow. Then each morning you refill the canisters from a larger storage tank! That way, no motor or fans required! I’m just not sure the canisters could hold enough for the night 🤷‍♂️

You need those two components you show...plus a battery. Battery tech has come a long way, but the battery needed to power the current travel CPAPs available is still 3-4x the size of those components. If you don't need the heater (I don't ever use mine) there is hope, but more advancements are still needed to last through the night I think. On top of that, being "medical grade" is a whole thing. Look at the cpap batteries available and they are all *way* over priced because they need to comply with a bunch of regulation on crap. You can go buy a battery with a generic plug on it and power a cpap (with the heater turned off) for a lot less. Any device which I would want to use would need to have a user-replacable battery because you don't want to have to replace the whole thing if the battery wears out. Additionally, you could imagine having two batteries and always charging one while using the other, and just swap it each night before you go to bed, that would be sweet!

Thanks, Kept thinking this cannot be real... SCAM!! and a dangerous one! 1) I have rebuilt both my cpaps and the motors are robust... 2) not nearly enough pressure 3) how could a battery power it for 8 hours. One would like it to work, esp. for travel. HOW can they be allowed to market these to people with sleep apnea?

CPAP is also what it is because of a very sophisticated software. I don't see any benefit in tacking a vacuum cleaner under my nose. Weight and noise are show stoppers.

Someone should self-engineer a mask only cpap device. It would be revolutionary. Positive pressure could be achieved using advanced compact wind turbine designs.

I started following you Nick, because your channel was informative, useful, more importantly helpful! However, pre, during, and post advent Sleep HQ, there is too much marketing and hawking of all the various merch that the joy of watching your videos and reels is gone...I feel like I've been hijacked almost, not to mention costs after all the buy'ins and subscriptions. *I will continue to follow, but after 1 January I won't continue any paid subscriptions. Take care and stay Frosty my friend! 🙂🇦🇺🇺🇲

Hi Leslie, after spending 18 months working on SleepHQ, it's only fair I can spend a few weeks promoting the launch. It's helped thousands of people improve their therapy and i won't apologise for promoting my hard work. I also fund the FREE version of the platform so anyone can use it. People can choose to 'follow' whoever they like but I'm the one doing all the free work and i have been for 12+ years. Moreover, his is not my product in this video? This is a product found on Amazon, and i'm not promoting it, I'm warning people to avoid it. I had a channel donation link active for 12 years and you know how many people sent me a few bucks to say thanks.....18. Don't get me wrong, i love the idea of creating free, educational, helpful content for everyone but i've also got to provide for my family. Cheers mate

I wouldn't want you to apologize for your hard work either Nick. For myself however, my interest pecked when I realized what value you were adding to my CPAP experience. Again, just a simple explanation from a man of simple meager means here in USA: I followed cuz you are informative. Then Sleep HQ entered the picture, everything morphed into a monster I can't keep up with. Still think you're valve added though, even if I can't pay for all the subscriptions.

See the problem? You show the two components, yet one costs $30, the other costs $800-$2000. Who are the scammers? Both, only the second does it legally. A CPAP should not cost more than $100, maybe $200 for a top end model. It just doesn't make sense based on the parts.
