In this week's episode, we take you on a tour of a thoughtfully designed 992 sqft BTO home located in Bidadari. This home, owned by Jun Hao and Sara, showcases the art of creating warmth and spaciousness within a compact apartment.
The primary focus in designing this space was to make it feel inviting and open. The couple, both working in the banking industry, wanted a home where they could unwind after a long day at work and entertain friends and family from time to time.
To achieve this, they introduced natural elements like wood and raw concrete throughout the house, providing a sense of earthy spaciousness in their urban surroundings. The kitchen boasts an open concept with creative open shelving, allowing them to display their knick-knacks, ceramics, books, and more. A large kitchen island with spacious drawers underneath provides ample storage.
The living area is a combination of two common rooms, offering flexibility and openness. They installed a sliding door for privacy when needed, and the space is divided into a lounge area for watching TV and a workstation with a bookshelf for added functionality.
The bathrooms feature minimalist designs, with neutral tones creating a serene atmosphere. The master bedroom is kept simple and minimal to allow for easy rearrangement of furnishings. The only carpentry is a flush-to-the-wall wardrobe, maximizing space.
The couple's friends and family find the home cosy and welcoming, thanks to its open concept, making it perfect for gatherings, games, and meals.
This thoughtfully designed home is a testament to how a small apartment can be transformed into a warm and spacious haven. It continues to evolve with Jun Hao and Sara, providing them with a comfortable and inviting space.
Special thanks to the homeowners for opening up their home to us.

I like it - unpretentious. No namedropping of any specific aesthetic genre - no zen, no wabi-sabi, no japandi. It is what it is. Materials, and design decisions. And like what the female owner says "it will evolve with us over time." More of such features please!

Thanks for your insights 😊
Love this warm and welcoming space. 👍🏻 The owners narrated well their thoughts behind the design of their home. And I thought it was great that Sara said “ … we have been LIVING here for about 1 1/2 years …”, instead of “… we have been STAYING here for about 1 1/2 years …” 😊

I like the simple & woody theme, very cosy. The only thing not working in my eyes is the wooden sliding door. I mean: For what??? Who wants to sit in a hidden room when doors are closed??? So i think most of the time the sliding door is open...and it looks great ❤

Beautiful, serene and functional. The only change I would have made is taking away the shower and putting up a wall in place of it in the hallway bathroom, making that a "guest" bathroom(WC) with sink and toilet only and with the extra space adding a bathtub to the Master bathroom.

Thank you for those insights 😊
The kitchen AC could have been mounted more to the right as the wind blowing out is making the overhung lights swinging left to right... This might impact the light from illuminating the space correctly as the lamp is constantly swinging.
Interesting decision to combine both the bedrooms to form the living area and instead use the usual open living area for dining.

Very nice open plan apartment. I wonder, however, if they could reverse the door to the guest bathroom (or change the type of door) so that one doesnt get a direct line of sight of the toilet from the living room 03:18 ... 🙈

Nobody will see the bathroom from there as it’s not a place to sit. Unless you’re sitting at the TV console

"Surprisingly spacious" "992ft"
cat.
Unlike tiles of yesteryear, modern wall tiles are an economical way to add texture, colour and design to the bathroom. Micro cement on the other hand look flat and boring, like painted wall. My first impression of this house is that it is just another layout and design that accentuates the low ceiling. Proportion and placement of furniture contributes to that. The kitchen island is too bulky and it’s position right under the beam add to that compressed feel.

if you knock down all your bedrooms the flat is obviously spacious. nothing impressive about this design.
Definitely a job well done. It looks much bigger than 992 sq ft! 🫡
