    I think it's supposed to be the slowest speed possible in order to maintain a controlled forward motion.

    Yeah that one clip of the family yelling at the bigger boat I saw the original clip and commented that I didn’t think the bigger boat was at fault because it seems like he’s going slow and trying not to make a big wake and that I was just really wavy in the canal .

    With the 500 + times I’ve gone through the Canal, and the 3 vessels I’ve seen get swamped, never once did I see the State police take any actions against the speeders. Too many morons driving boats

    The easy solution to the speed limit is to simply plan your passage so that you transit with the current or better yet at “slack water”, that way you can obey the speed limit without being accused of going too slow. The speed limit/ no wakes zones need to be enforced and ALL violators ticketed!!! No excuse for the arrogant disregard for proper seamanship by these speeders! That said, only a fool would take a bow rider through this canal!

    There is absolutely a right time and a wrong time to come through the canal! We pretty much know when to be there at its roughest. There are certainly times its flat as glass.

    Absolutely. We keep our boat in the Barnegat bay area and I will not run the canal if there is a peak current in it. Way too dangerous.

    We made 6ft standing waves by going idle in a canal with a pwc. The issue was the other 110+ pwcs around us doing the same. Was insane

    We have the same issues on the Lewes-Rehoboth canal in Delaware-but no current. Just unlawful boaters not wanting to obey the no-wake speed limit.

    Thanks for sharing your experience from the Lewes-Rehoboth canal. It's unfortunate that some boaters don't follow the no-wake speed limit. Let's hope that increased awareness and education will encourage everyone to prioritize safety and respect for others. Happy boating! ⛵

    The waterline length of the boats hull determines its hull speed. The larger the boat, the faster it can go through the water without throwing a wake. The Queen Mary there at the end was going fast enough that a smaller boat would be on plane at that speed. If you noticed it threw hardly any wake at all.

  • @thedolphin5428

    @thedolphin5428

    That is an insane rationale for no wake. So you're saying 20 knots is better for "no wake" than 4 - 8 knots with a lumpy stern wave. Yeah, and safer??? Idiot.

    My dad took me trough the canal when we had the old bridges, and there were whirlpools back then, so you had to pick up speed to get through successfully, but now i see boats going fast all the time from start to finish, we don’t have the whirlpools any more so, I think everyone should slow down, the police should give out more tickets. But hen again, I under stand you now have to go faster just so you don’t get swamped, because of all the wakes of the other boats Crazy….

  • @gbass7328

    No wake zone? Correct! The canal produces wake itself and you have to navigate the strong current created by the canal. Going slowly can dangerous and irresponsible boat piloting.

    A No Wake Zone is a crock of s - - t. It is a meaningless, unenforceabie term. It takes LESS THAN 2 knots, *close to an idle* , not to make any bow wave or stern wash. "No Wash" is technically no more than a ripple from the 2 corners of the transom. Try it sometime. In Australia we have some 4 knot, 5 knot, 8 knot zones, all of which make FAR MORE than "no wash". Here also, No Wash is a joke which noone takes seriously. And no Maritime Officer can ever objectively, legitimately ticket any skipper for speeding unless it is a recorded radar readout, just like on the highway. Their verbal assessment from mere observation on the water would never stand up in court. A No Wash Zone is a totally bogus concept and water police know it. Thus it gets ignored. The ONLY WAY to cut this washing machine pictured above is to ENFORCE a *2 knot zone* with 24/7 speed cameras, just like on the roads PLUS constant marine patrols on weekends. Anything else is a sham. End of story.

    I was stuck behind a guy going way to slow in there last year while getting pushed by the tide definitely made steering difficult, that canal is the biggest idiot festival on the planet I grew up in point and lived there for 41 years before moving recently. Been fishing in there 100’s of times and taken boat through handful of times and the amount of stupidity is mind boggling

    Its certainly rare to see someone going too slow but it does happen. The example shown in this video was because the guy in front of the Boston Whaler was on his phone not paying attention to anyone around him. I wish we would have had a wider lens on our camera that day because the boat yelling "I cant go this slow" was pretty close to hitting the side.
