I live in Pompano and it's so messed up how just 15 miles north for some reason your structure holds bait you'll never find that off of Deerfield or Pompano you'll never go to a wreck or Reef and be able to jig bait like that

Walk around your local marina, and talk to some of the captains and see if they need a deck hand, and that you're just trying to get your foot in the door. If you have no experience, you'll be doing the grunt work for low pay. But should be relatively easy to find someone to put you to work. Lots of different captains and work out there, so if you don't mesh well with your captain, be honest with him and tell him you don't think its a fit, and if you develop a good rapport with him, he'll help you find work on another boat.

We live in Portugal, planning a trip to Florida soon. In your own personal opinion, what's the best time of the year to come and what would be your number 1 location? Shore + Boat fishing.

Alex or you could come to Chokoloskee,Fl and yes summer is great but anytime of the year is good. Hotels are very reasonable and you can really enjoy the everglades and the Gulf of Mexico.

When targeting king fish offshore do you fish cover like near reefs or wrecks or drop offs or just pick any spot out there and start chumming?

We fished Dolphin almost daily from Apr-June and those chickens on up to small gaffers will eat your bait til its gone. I started buying those 3 or 4 inch skirts you can slide a 3/8 egg weight up in the top of the skirt and just a long shank hook. That little 30 cent rig bails them. Cast and wind or troll them around a school. $$$$$$

This made me think of Australia where you sometimes are surrounded by hundreds, probably thousands of Mahi and the very smallest are 20-30lb, many 50lb fish too... Granted, usually you have sharks beneath, but some heavy spinnin' gear with short, strong rods, or medium sized two speed reel with 100pb braid, 150-200lb mono leader, or what I like a short peace of 70lb 1x7 titanium leader and you can smoke them in and I'm talkin' about 20-30 lb, sometimes 40lb of drag.

I bet if you were to run a setup similar to what they use for Cod or Black Rockfish you could catch the hell of some Mahi, the only problem would be those damn sharks, lol.

Good video there. I will try your channel, but just to let you know, my feelings for commercial fising isnt thst grest, mostly the asians/south Americans though. Not enough restrictions on them or checking on. To me, Mahi should not be fished commercially. That could easily wipe out the Mahi stocks like commercial fishing did all other fish stocks. They did it to both the bluefish, strippers and the blue crabs up here. I think all US caught fish should stay in America and not shipped over seas as well as paying fishermen better wages for their fish(tuna shipped over seas dont pay our fishermen here much when all said and done) Also, there needs limits on Mahi as well. Glad you let fish go. No one needs to have more then ten fish of any kind per person. Don't take this wrong but I'm 60 years old and see such a massive drop in the fishing stocks, size, catches etc
