    Actually, i rarely get to listen to my records until AFTER made the video! This was months ago! I listened to a lot of them while i was cataloging them and researching them for this video...but hadn't listened to them before this. The reason is...I've got so many "hauls" backlogged on my "new arrivals" shelves, it's hard to keep them in order...keep track of what's what...so, when i get them, i put them right onto the "new arrivals" shelves, put dividers in to keep them seperate from the other "hauls", then, i don't touch them for fear of getting things mixed up! Once I've done my video, THEN they get filed into the collection and get listened to.

    Yeah, except I've got a lot of great records i haven't listened to yet because of that! Also, I've accidentally bought duplicates of records because i hadn't got them logged into discogs. The system definitely has its flaws. I'm taking more drastic steps now though to get caught up on videos. Some of my less exciting "digs" are hitting the cutting room floor so i can get through more digs in each video. Hopefully someday I'll be caught up(ish) and it'll alleviate the storage issues, the not getting to listen to them issues, the accidentally buying duplicates issues...and the "you missed such and such album...you should go back and get it" issue!

    It's super easy to keep fingers off of the grooves. I watch another channel of a guy that has like 14,000 records and very expensive ones at that, and he also puts his fingers all over the vinyl. I'd say about 99.9% (I'm actually probably being very conservative) of records I pick up at thrift stores have at least one fingerprint of grease that I have to clean off of them. Those Gene Krupa vs Buddy Rich are killer. Not sure how many they put out, but I know I have at least 2 of them.

  • @VinylHunter

    @VinylHunter

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes! Just hold it by the outer edge of the record (two hands)! ...or by the outer edge and the label (one hand). Zeppearl made a video where he was eating greasy potato chips and fingering expensive records! 🤣😂🤣 I'm pretty good about it, but on rare occasions i touch the grooves...but i don't sweat it because I've got multiple ways to clean records.

    I like your vids, cause you always pick the same albums that I would have picked. I would imagine that Nebraska is a great place to get older vinyl with it's dry summer climate, compared to the east coast with the high humidity? Here in NY, thrift shops always have super moldy/mildew heavy LPs.

  • @VinylHunter

    @VinylHunter

    Жыл бұрын

    We get a lot of humidity here too...not as bad as some places...but it's not arid here. Florida is the worst humidity I've experienced! But, as long as people didn't store their records in a dank basement, or a leaky garage, they're usually pretty dry. I DO have a handful of musty records though...actually the odor has pretty much gone away.

    I've been to a lot of thrift stores, but I've never seen any records as good as this. Most regularly, I tend to see old church, Nana Mouskouri and christmas records which have all been beaten to hell.

    I remember hearing on radio about Sam Cooke's killing. I had just recently bought his single Good News. Eartha Kitt re-recorded her '50s RCA hits for stereo on Revisited in the '60s for Kapp. Funny you bypassed some more typical later Bert Kaempfert albums and took one of his earliest, Wonderland. Decca added some extra echo to the stereo version. Tenderly was #36 followup to #1 Wonderland by Night. It has some remakes of songs Bert did only in mono before. Ezio Pinza was in South Pacific with Mary Martin on Broadway. I like Ed Ames , first record in second box, but that copy looked bad. He's still alive at age 95. Not much country surprisingly for that area. Very interesting video. Many albums I never saw here in NY.

  • @VinylHunter

    @VinylHunter

    I really don't know much about Kaempfert...I'm pretty much just guessing when i pick something out. I've got a handful of his records...and i certainly don't feel like i need every one of his records...I see them all the time, that's why i pass on most of them...but every once in a while one will catch my eye! His version of Caravan is my fave!!!!

    Nice Haul. There is a lot of controversy around the Sam Cooke killing. Most believe it was a set up and he was murdered. He was with the woman all night partying then when the got to the hotel she stole his clothes and he claimed she had robbed him when he went to tell the manager to call the police she shot him claiming he was threatening her. He had some great music however. Not familiar with a lot of what you got only because I am not a huge Jazz fan some is ok and I have been experimenting with some lately. However with that being said Bert Kemfort is one I can not stand I was given a collection from my aunt in the mid 90's and she wanted me to record the 2 Bert Kemfort albums onto a cassette for her but then I got to keep all the albums that was sent. I suffered through them one time to record them then gave them away very quickly LOL. Most of the rest of her collection was great mostly Country and I kept all of that

    36:44 So many amazing records, Tuco, and I think you'll get a kick out of Arthur Lyman's 'Hawaiian Sunset', particularly track 1, 'Hawaiian War Chant', which starts off pleasantly enough, but then has some wonderfully menacing dark piano overtones which makes me think of a spy movie or James Bond movie with Bond visiting some exotic place (including Hawaii) while he's being followed by some tough goons. It's a really fun piece that sets itself apart from the rest of the album, but all of the tracks are great. :)

I also love his 'Taboo Vol. 2' album which has a cool image on the cover of two shrunken heads. The track 'Taboo Tu' is clearly inspired by 'Quiet Village' but it also has a nice mysterious quality to it as well as great percussion and exotic bird calls. :)

    Very early TUCO this week - Roll it! ...Lotsa nice jazz LPs there, I'm glad that the conditions were good because condition is everything! ...I do have that Bud Shank "California Dreaming" album you passed up - it's a very good album! ...As usual, a few of what you picked (as well as left there) had me scratching my head. I had to laugh when you for some reason pulled the Ezio Pinza - and I cannot figure out for the life of me why you call that harp music LP "space age" - my grandmother listened to that old-time harp music waaay back when I was a teenager and it had me fleeing the house! You sure are entertaining though! ...Excellent haul this time! ...Now I gotta get back to the 1,200 45s I bought (and traded for) from another collector last week - that's what had me up early this cold Sunday in Harrisburg, Pa.!

    Btw, i totally stand by calling Robert Maxwell "space age"...Space age is an "era" and a recording technique from that era. Using the then new hi-fi recording methods. Ultra modern sounding for the time. I think his album Harp In Hi-Fi is much better though...much more of the stereotypical space age sound.
