It's not as simple as just leaving. Have you heard of a narcissist? They could be married and has kids together.. They could have been a stay at home parent and no income. If the partner is abusive they must likely are also gaslighting, threatening, and making the victim feel worthless. Do some research before you tell someone "just leave then!!" My mom and I were in a domestic violence, the guy she dated wasn't great. She saw the good in everyone even him. And no matter how many times I called the police, they didn't do anything. And that night, he ended up taking my mom and also my best friend. Since then I've felt lost, afraid to trust people even sometimes. The cops ended up finding him a few blocks down from our house, and arrested him. But I still wish she didn't have to have to be taken from me. No 16 yr old or any age should have to go through what I did. I am now 18 and it's tough, how do you move on with your life when you have guilt and a broken heart. Exactly. Worse part of letting a guilty person get away with things is, it gives them an invitation to keep doing the same bad things over and over again to many different people.
