OMG! Thank you so much! This also works beautifully on glass. Your method saved me so much time and effort TRYING DESPERATELY (and unsuccessfully) to transfer inkjet images onto clear glass plates for Halloween. So many failed attempts at "rolling" the paper off the back. You are truly a marvel and an awesome individual! Thanks again!

If you used your credit card to smooth the wax paper down on to the glued area of the wood, you might get rid of more of the bubbles. A well-explained video; very clear. Thank you!

Now that is the result I'm looking for! A complete, clean transfer; no "distressed" look; no wet-and-rubbing the paper off; and can use my inkjet printer!! I coated some 'Contac' paper backing with the spray poly. Now for the white glue! Oh I hope I can get your kind of results!! Thx for sharing!

One thing to note - as long as the transferred image covers the surface completely, edge to edge, it is a good image and you can't tell that they aren't all the same image. But if the transferred image (image plus the backing) are smaller, such as a bit of text on a larger piece, you can see the outline of the image. A good gloss covers it up. I used Sax gloss medium and it did the trick. Polycrylic didn't.

Okay, I have finally tried this although I used freezer paper instead. The cost is lower for freezer paper - 150 feet for about $4. I couldn't let it dry in the sun because it was dark and raining. I didn't wait hours for each coat to dry because I'm too impatient. I made sure the pieces I was imprinting were smooth, and for each layer of paint or glue, I only waited long enough for it to dry. About 90 minutes from first coat of glue on my pieces to the end of the whole process. My suggestion - write "BACK" on the side of the paper without the glue. It's hard to tell once the glue is on because it's not shiny anymore. Printing went without a hitch, and I was working on a very small piece so burnishing wasn't necessary. I let it dry until it didn't feel cool to the toucn, then pulled it off and it really did work exceptionally well. My printer has a Tshirt Transfer setting that automatically flips the whole page, under Printer Options, so I did not have to flip the text images. Test on a plain piece of paper. Text should be reversed as you see it on the page. You only need to test one word to find out. Thanks for helping us find the best and cheapest way!

There is single sheet freezer paper available on Amazon, usually aimed at quilters, but it's a LOT more expensive than the big roll. The advantage is that it's flat, not rolled. That being said, the glue helps to flatten even the rolled paper.

A few questions... What kind of clear spray paint are you using? Is it a sealer? Or a spray adhesive? Is it really okay to put paper with dried glue on it into a printer? I'm worried about it sticking to something inside and ruining my printer. I have to be careful because I share my printer with others and I don't want to damage it. Thanks!

  • @salmandron

shesflyingwithoutwings I had the same question. I actually tried this without the spray paint (for to buy some) and it failed. When I put the glue on it didn’t lay evenly so I tried a thinner layer. It worked but it was so thin that my image tore. I tried with the spray paint then the glue and it really evened out the glue. For me, the spray paint acted like a bonding agent to give the glue somewhere to stick so I could do a thick layer but it was also even.

I can see the outline of the sheet on your wood and wonder if a coat of polyurethane over the entire project would mask that outline. Also, when you re-use your waxpaper, do you recoat with spray-on polyurethane and glue? Or perhaps just recoat with glue?

Yes but you'll have to attach it to a regular sheet of paper or card stock because just the wax paper won't feed properly and will almost certainly jam in the printer. You should also leave about 2 inches of just paper at the feeding end if you can (if you don't need a full 8x10 image) since that will grab even better.

That is correct. A standard ink jet printer does not have white ink. The printer is operating under the assumption that it will be printing on white paper. To a printer, "white" means "don't apply any ink here". "Pink" means "apply a small amount of red here".

Just saw a video of some one using the backing of mailing labels. Looks the same. So in reality you can pick any label paper you would normally use. Address labels. Small ones for products tags. Store on wax paper so you can use the backing paper. When needed can put labels on paper or card stock or small sign for table at booths.
