Yeah. I absolutely remember those days when these “usual suspects” KZread fragrance reviewers heaped praise on this house continuously for like a couple of months. It was in their top 10, top 20 , top 100 lists for summer , winter , spring , autumn.

I haven’t bought a bottle of perfume for almost a year now and have been wearing unopened vintage perfumes that I discovered in my own house from back in the day when I once bought back-up bottles. I still have the urge to buy something new sometimes, but your reviews like this one make me appreciate what I already have. Ramsey, thanks again for yet another spot-on video!

I left a comment about how similar is this to Haltane, but did not see the video till the end :D. According to a Spanish KZreadr who owns a small perfume shop in Madrid (perfumería Rosi) and whom I met personally, Haltane contains actual oud. I think you’re spot on. Oud for Greatnesses is an okay fragrance but it is a steal the price they ask for it. Sadly it is happening with many perfumes nowadays. Sometimes I get paranoid thinking that the industry in general watered down the traditional designers only to sell niche fragrances at a double or triple price

If Haltane does it's also only 0000000000000000.1% and low grade.... basic oud oil isn't even expensive and you can get 5ml of pure plantation oil for $30

I have 3 versions of Oud for Greatness. The oldest version was my favorite but yes very polarizing. I always wondered what that amberwood note was called. I bought a bottle years ago and It has been watered down tremendously. After smelling Lattafa's oud for glory I then realized I was taken to the cleaners.

Wow! Blown away by your review, especially the way you narrated the whole thing. I appreciate your perspective, although I have a different opinion for one big reason - Oud for greatness DOES THE JOB hahaha. The perfume goes heavy on its presence and performance and is quite acceptable. For me, it has a "Feel Good Effect" and hence takes a place in my wardrobe. Looking forward to more of your videos. Great job!

(Both fragrances done by Jordi Fernandez). Really looking forward to smelling both. I don't mind amberwood and I like good longevity, so I'm really curious. But i like your counterbalancing opinion. There are way too many influencer shills

Solid thrashing old chap 😂. Looked a quite the few reviews on all the clones of this one interesting for sure ,wanna say didn’t see any of the free bottle brigade do a comparison video?? Shocking 😂. Thank you sir for your candor. At this level of price point, your honesty is welcomed. I am not a fan of ‘influencers’ for this very reason. Everyone’s skin and noise is different. I can do Rehab and Side Effect, but not much else. Of course, try before you buy. PS…separately, you are dead on with most Mancera fragrances…I can do Instant Crush but not much else.

Yeah this is another one i just don’t understand the hype for. I have difficulty describing fragrances but this one totally gives me an oil vs water vibe, and by that i mean it smells to me like there are two different main accords that just do not mix well together and never settle or blend, they just sort of fight against each other constantly. Ive never really had another fragrance give me that feeling, and that isn’t a compliment.

First comment on one of your videos, love them! And these negative reviews are so entertaining! Feels like I'd have to get a sample too, just to see how bad it is :D But I resist. Wish I'd seen your Side Effect video before I got a sample of that... still not worth the money for testing. And here's my little story about amberwoods: I got into mixing some raw materials just out of curiosity for a little while during corona. I knew this scratchy woody note from some perfumes' drydowns, that I somehow liked and couldn't figure out how to get anywhere near it. Then I stumbled upon a material called "Ambermax" from Givaudan and boom, there was the note. I started to happily mix it with this and that and just some weeks in it turned into my most hated smell of all. Thing is, when you don't know it, you might think it is a thought out composition, that ends up smelling like this. But it's just one material, let in be "Ambermax" or "Amber Extreme" or the like. You could more or less just wear that material, maybe add a little vanillin or ethyl maltol and smell like everybody else from afar.

I actually like Oud For Greatness for what it is. But i will NEVER buy it retail. Not even discounters. I actually bought it off a friend for cheap and for it's mass appealing factor. Despite owning one, i'm not even offended one bit about this review, and i think more people should consider your opinion before buying it. After watching your videos, I managed to buy some fragrances you recommended like La Nuit Paco Rabanne and Ajmal Mukhallat Shams. And after trying those, i understand where you're coming from. Those were FANTASTIC. It really pushes me off to another part of fragrance world that is overlooked by the community. Appreaciate your insights and reviews and it actually sparked a fire in me to explore more fragrances like this. Here's a fresh start for me, gone are the days of Initios, Unique'e Luxury or ATH. Hope to see more reviews from you. Thank you

We love these videos Ram. I saw there is another perfume by this house with a similar name called OUD FOR HAPPINESS. There are plenty of other houses like Zaharoff , Navitus etc that popped up during the time that deserve to be dressed down publicly.

Ohh yeah... that is their whole business model... Use the GCMS machine ... i think its called a Gas Chrometography machine system... or something like that .. a true niche frag couldnt be copied because even if you had the formula the ingridients would be expensive to clone and sell on the cheap... thats my opinion

@@RamseytheRam yes GCMS, V is just below the G on the key pad 😀. Yes I agree niche brands use expensive ingredients but that is not always the case. For example vetiver is not as expensive as good oud or rose Otto except for extremely old bourbon vetiver, but they still charge $500-600 per bottle. This is where I have a problem with some niche houses.

Amberwood for Grimness? It's very interesting what you've said, that BR540 is an inspiration behind all of those synthetic smelling creations. I do see that. PS. I don't think a person who wears Initio, PdM or Tiziana Terrenzi, can sense any smell after trying Chanel Les Exclusives (ok, maybe Le Lion).

To me it smells like if somebody has opened a bottle of baccarat rouge 540 and poured a good dose of synthetic oud in there. I don't mind the smell actually, but not as a fine perfume, I think it would be great as a light scented candle or a reed diffuser oil :) ps: oh and that candle should not be more expensive than a regular scented candle.... :) ps2: you just nailed it about baccarat rouge 540, that's exactly what I think when I smell it everywhere, that whoever is wearing it just got an extra disposable cache to throw, but has no taste in perfume

I don't know how true it is but I see people saying Initio Atomic Rose is similar to PDM Delina too. Look for people testing from decants, they practically always equate them to a cheaper designer fragrance or say a £20 clone is as good/better.

It seems like because the materials Initio uses makes it easy for these clone houses to clone... a perfect niche perfume is one where the materials are so high quality that even if the clone house knew the formula... they couldnt make it work due to how expensive it would be to put real oud , real ambergris in the formula etc... That is NOT Initio apparently as these clone houses are teeing off on them 😂😂😂

Love this video although I like OfG and love Absolute Aphrodisiac but would not pay full price. I have been using a 2 ml sample of OfG for three years. Never actually wear it but love sniffing the top. Might be the only one in this comment list that appreciates these fragrances. Otherwise the house doesn’t interest me much. Addictive Vibration smells like a bag of candy.

These “reviewers” are are not making reviews, they are simply making product showcases. I received several whole packs of samples from FB in Canada for a mistake that was made on my order (product was not in stock but showed it was) and this was one of the packs. I didn’t know what the hell I was smelling and disliked it, but the “reviewers” told me I was wrong. I gave it a wear to work and was surprised that some women like it. I just can’t wear it anymore because I myself have to smell it all day and don’t wear frags for other people

I sampled Atomic Rose. Only one from either house that I smelled. It was popular with husband but it made me nauseous. So yes, projection and silage are amazing but it’s just not for me.

It makes a great bathroom deodorant, not a put down, it's actually a pretty calming incensey rosy smell....that Baccarat Rouge most despised comment made milk come out've my nose and I nearly choked! The only scent I like from Initio is Atomic Rose, and it can only be described as a teenage girl's first signature scent; a rose that looks real and smells somewhat real, but is made of entirely plastic. But that's not the worst part. I never cared about packaging until I got one of Initio's sample sets (since I try to buy sample kits directly from the official sites whenever possible), and the sprayer actually got stuck inside the paper packaging, forcing me to cut it out. Because of that horrible experience, I now care about packaging.

Sorry for your trauma. I got samples 2 years ago, rehab and Oud and they are wonderful bathroom fresheners. I used to like Layton, now I can’t stand it either. Their stuff is too gloopy and synthetic. Layton still makes it on top of lists still. I just bought Musc Tonkin and Le Cri by Empire. Oh Le Cri is a must sniff for you Ram.

Appreciate your authenticity. Too many KZread "reviewers" are really now a paid spokesperson. I fell into the hype of Initio because it was showing up all over the internet and like you found them to be a mess, except for the newer release Paragon. I really like it but it's way overpriced. All in all, Oud for Greatness is to oud like McDonald's is to hamburgers. 😂

I got Oud For Greatness for 70 Euro from a friend who just wanted to get rid of it ASAP. I really like it for that price, the bottle design and partially the smell, especially that leathery saffron note and that sweet (supposedly mysterious) depth that emanates from it, but I do not really connect with it in the sense that I'd like to wear it often. Never would have bought it for 300+. My gut feeling says that a price tag of 90-150Euros would be acceptable. Anything above 200 feels like a scam and I totally get your reaction. My nose is untrained and I don't get the "s*tty, badly executed, synthetic, etc." vibe. Could you recommend a scent that goes into a similar direction as OFG does or wants to, but better? Cheers!

Everyone has an opinion, and they're all valid. For myself, I don't purchase anything over $100 without sampling first. I got to sample this through a subscription decant service and I liked and bought a bottle of it the next week. I don't really get into the houses or even the ingredients. I'm a chimp. If I like the way it smells, I purchase. I'm still trying to figure out why the world likes Sauvage. lol

Don't like being the 'smartass' here (lie, love being that guy lol) but there's not that much of Amberwood(s) in OFG (ca. 1,1%). Maybe what you are identifying as such is a combination of Evernyl (synth oakmoss) and Ambrox (ca. 11% and 5% respectively). Yes it has a very similar construction to BR540 swapping Hedione to Iso E Super and adding some woody materials (natural and synths), so a bit more complex but still nothing crazy. Truth to be told the formula doesn't look like much cheaper than other niche or exclusive perfume brands, I think what bothers to us trully fragheads is the obnoxious marketing strategy of the brand (sending free stuff, high prices) more than the actual perfume (which to me is ALSO obnoxious and not reflecting the price asked in terms of refinement, etc.)

Oh i missed the voting stage where you were voted in as chairman and speaker of the 'true fraghead' association... i need to get on the mailing list for the next election 👍🤣 But maybe it's because it's a $40 fragrance in a $400 bottle that's the real issue for those in the know! but 'designers do the same' I hear people say.... except they are fashion houses and people are buying into a brand, lifestyle etc more than just the perfume alone, TF, Dior, Chanel can all sell a basic T-shirt for $100+ just because it has their brand logo/name on it.... no one's buying an initio, pdm, BDK Tee for even $10 and would opt for a plain one instead every time. The sole purpose of a niche house is not to be designer esque, be of a much higher quality, risk taking in new directions and purposely individual smelling because that's their only selling points that matters to perfume lover's / collectors who want the next level experiences.

One difference I'd say is that Bacarrat Rouge, when released, was truly original and gorgeous, whereas Initio was a cheap somewhat modified translation. For that reason I give MFK more of a pass

hello ram! mmmm I got another 4 ml of this oud for Greatness…for free 😌(I already tried it at the time) a while ago…been trying it again since yesterday…and right now I am wearing it in a hot climate which is what it does right now in Spain warm and humid! It's not a bad perfume, it doesn't smell bad, it's pretty, it looks good on my skin, without being anything extraordinary!! there is the problem and the offensive; what they ask for him!! It is unfortunately a joke in bad taste! The price it has… is offensive! … because it is nothing extraordinary! ... the second appreciation is that it is also re-formulated ... well, it is not what I tried at the time ... this is getting complicated ... with so many restrictions!! IFRA.. 😒😒😒they want us to eat bugs and not smell good..🤷🏼‍♀️what's going on? Also, if a perfume loses quality, intensity, among other things, and it's not the same... how can they continue to call it the same way and to top it off, ask for even more money than it cost before? what madness is this!!😮

This is only one of those "best oud" and best whatever over-hyped scents on the market. A lot of brands push cheap western oud (whatever they are using for material) at insane price because they are "premium niche". For example that one brand that sued ATH. I think that most reviewers don't even know what oud smells like. Then again, why should they if the free bottles are coming and along them views. The more early you realize this the better. Nowadays I for least over-hyped frags on the market. The scent matter more than the brand or some reviewers opinion. And the price, no reason to pay premium price for a product that is not that.

@@RamseytheRam Yes, not the best reputation with that company. Sadly I own Cannabis Blue. And it's an ok scent, but hardly worth the price, especially when thinking of performance and competition. Only the packaging seems to be "worth" it. Don't own Initio. I would also add PdM to the list, tested them, was not impressed slightly. Overhyped. Creed is suspicios. And then there are new niche clone houses like Electimuss. I can't imagine why the price is so high, except that they priced themselves that way. Can't believe the ingredients are natural or that expensive.

😂...that's right! Rumor has it the elaborate graphic design on the bottle can also be utilized as a "decoder-ring" of sorts to find which Tubers are the shills... Totally forgot about the bs540 aspect of this one, just complete "Pierre Montale" level farceness lol

Man I also despise the sister companies Initio and Parfums the Marly. I just can't decide which one I despise more. A few years ago when I first heard of Initio I went to Saks here in NY and decided to spray Oud For Greatness on myself, and Maaaann did I regret doing that.... The fragrance was awful super sweet cloying and cheap smelling. I had to endure that awful smell during the whole afternoon until I finally got home and went straight to the shower to get rid of that annoying smell. So I totally identify myself with your experience. On another topic I have not seen reviews of Montale's fragrances on your Channel. You don't like any of them?

@@RamseytheRam I don't like Mancera, but I love some Montale's Fragrances. Have you smelled Montale's old creations? Black Aoud (it came out in 2006, 4 years before Portrait of a Lady) It was the inspiration not only for Portrait of a Lady but to all these Rose Oud Combos) Aoud Cuir D'Arabie (it also came out in 2006, 8 years before FM The Night). Montale Dark Aoud (it came out in 2011, the same year of Jovoy Private Label). Montale Black Musk (it came out in 2010, terrific smell) And from the new ones I believe the Dark Vanilla and Oud Pashmina are outstanding Creations. Have you smelled any of these?

It's hard for me to compare a montale to a Frédéric Malle personally... I mean they have been wearing Rose / Ouds for 1000s of years in the middle East so it isn't like Montale did anything special in 2006... but my favorite Montale I tried is Aoud Cuir d'Arabie ...but honestly not a fan of the brand... I don't think Pierre Montale can blend personally

I hate OFG. It induces a headache. It stinks. Wouldn't wear it even I was paid to. Most of Initio's perfumes are boring to death, but this one is off putting. I've already noted in another one of your videos, I'll buy a 10ml decant of SE (the only Initio I could wear in cold weather), and I've bought a 10ml decant of AV to my wife (she loves it). I also do not like any perfume of Mancera and Montale. But then again - you love Chanel Antaeus and Drakar Noir and I hate them... different noses, different tastes.
