Initial Residential Subdivision Layout

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Creating the initial starting line-work for a simple subdivision. In this video we take the road centerlines and back of lots to determine where our roads are going along with the road widths and right of ways. We also create a knuckle and a cul-de-sac with proper radii according to municipal standards.
To begin this drawing you will need to import the points and create an existing ground surface, then import and explode the linework. The links for the files are below.

Thank you Kyle for the video. Concerning the circle trims, I had the same issue and then set the EDGEMODE variable to 0 and it seemed to help. Cheers.

Amazing work Kyle. Is it possible that you make a video showing the analysis of the storm and sewer on SSA? Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. You’re amazing!!!

Watching guys who are fluent in CAD/Civil 3d work is as close as I can relate to when my grandpa asks me to fix the tv and he can’t follow along with what I’m doing.

how did you get the contour elevation? and from the contour drawing, how do you accurately place the property plan so that the grading shown is on point, with respect to the actual property? if you have any video references, that would be much appreciated

In one of your videos, you reference how important it is to set up your sites correctly and say you have some videos dedicated to help with that. I'm having trouble finding them. Could you link those?

Hi Kyle, thank you for this video series. I have a question. What coordinate system do you use? I know It's from Calgary but for me as European It's difficult to choose the right one. Thank you.

Hi Kyle, I am new to Civil 3D, I have watched almost every single one of your video. My company is small size Geotech consulting film, so the Civil design is our new field. I followed along with your videos, I can perform the most of the work. However, would you show me what do you do when you initially receive a Survey dwg file? How can I start to do Civil design? I am really confused here, should I import my own style template (I created template file according to your video) into the Survey provided dwg files? because if I xerf the survey drawing into my template, I lost Z value. And, I noticed most survey company in my area, they do not provide points, I cannot find any points in point tap, they usually have points in specific layers. Also, they use 3D-breakline to represent surface. I hope you can have a video to walkthrough the whole process as civil drafter, from initial receive the survey drawing to final plan creation, no design detail needed as you already have so many videos regarding to designing phase. Thanks for you time watching my comment here. Have a good day!

the best way to work with the existing surface is to either bring it into your file as a xml, or use a data reference so if there are ever edits to the survey the file in your proposed base will update.

Great video! I'm a high school student in Ontario (GTA) and I'm looking into possible careers. This kind of work looks pretty interesting as you get to help in the process of building new infrastructure. Which seems to be a pretty rewarding job, as you get to see the results in real life. What is the name of these kinds of jobs? In Canada are they labeled civil technologist or cad drafters? Also, I was considering doing a civil engineering technology 3year program at Seneca college, would this help me get this kind of job? Thanks!

Yes, Civil Design Technologist, Civil Drafters, Civil Engineering Tech (ect) You have to be careful with actual CET programs as most of them are field work based and not office based.
