No the really story is after the 86 blew up the second time they ended up selling the GC8 to get another group a spec engine. Bunta just bought the new GR because he wanted to.

Well no here's my theory the GT86 in the first half was in 2012-2013 around the time legends 3 came out the scene would take place then since there was nothing stating it was still in the 90's and the GR is later on like 2019 or 2022 because shinjis in full race gear which makes me wonder if he's testing it on Akina agenst takumi and why not throw arguably the fastest driver in the initial D universe bunta behind the wheel of a car that needs testing that probably is a loaner or was given to him by DK himself because this commercial is a part of the last few GR86 commercials

@@Viachiaaa Based on what I read about it in Googles, it is also stated that Takumi also married a golfing lady Mika. So it sounds like Natsuki is now considered to be Takumi's ex girlfriend. I mean right after Natsuki went to Tokyo University, both Natsuki and Takumi never contacted each other again. So Takumi moved on and started his relationship with Mika. So Mika and Takumi would already be husband and wife in England based on how the googles were read.

Based on what it is shown, Shinji is not poor. If you compared that to Bunta, Bunta is not exactly a rich man. Bunta only made connections with his friend Suzuki. He arranged for the front engine for Takumi to have and he is the one who depended on Suzuki to hook him up with the Subaru. It is possible that Takumi's father only depended more like on a friend discount to get cars. So Bunta would have 2 friends. 1 would be Takumi's boss at a gas station and the other would be Suzuki, a mechanic that have connections that can hook Bunta up with car parts or cars that Bunta want. In a way, Shinji's family must be rich compared to a Fujiwara family. So Shinji's family does not exactly have to depend on a friend to get discounts on cars. Bunta most likely have to because he is not that rich.

Bunta only spends money on the needs and is not into anything luxurious. Look at his tofu business and his home. It does not even look luxurious. A real rich person would not be settling for a small home. Anyone who is rich would of gotten a bigger home long time ago. Besides, just a tiny tofu restaurant and not that many people he can hire, small company. Any business owner who owns a small shop and a small home but have the money would of already spend it on remodeling. If you were to sell just tofu, you can't expect to get rich that quickly. Bunta's place is not even considered a big company. That place don't look prestigious. To give an example, if someone were to live in a tiny apartment, are, you still going to call that person extremely rich? Or what if that person were to own a small farm? Are you still going to call that person rich? Bunta is not poor but not rich either. More like middle class. So being in a tofu business would not make Bunta a millionaire. The real rich person have luxury and lives in luxury. Bunta has simple life of living. People can live well as in having a decent home and living a simple life.

Have you forgotten that Ryosuke can also have his gutter skill too? I am not saying Ryosuke had defeated Takumi in a race but he did beat Takumi in that gutter. Difference is when Bunta beats Takumi in that gutter, Takumi cannot even counter attack to win the race. When Ryosuke defeated Takumi in that gutter, Takumi did overtake Ryosuke at a last second of a race. So far, it is proven that 3 racers have gutter skills
