D yeah but still not that crazy in mi opinion, even most of the bench of Spain where superstars except maybe 2 or 3 players. Just only check Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas, Víctor Valdés, Pepe Reina. Mids: Xavi, Iniesta, David Silva, Busquets, Xabi Alonso, Fabregas, Cazorla, Javi Martinez, Mata, Jesús Navas. That team was to crazy 😂

Portugal was really great in that tournament. Unlucky against Germany, still got out of by far the hardest group and after a comparably easy quarter final they were really close to beating the strongest team of the tournament which went on to win the final. The team which won four years later really wasn't as good.

This was the first match that I cried. We had such a shitty team back then, but the fact that we reached the semi-finals and almost beat Spain in penaltys is nuts. We probably would got destroyed by Italy in the final but yeah... thank god we finnaly won in 2016 !

But they've never been the best team in any tournament. They came 4th that year and only gamesmanship by Pepe vs Denmark got them through the group and they were lucky to face not a very good Czechia team that year in QF. 2008 2 wins 2 losses comprehensively beaten in the QF 2004 very unconvincing host nation. If Greece didn't win it that year it would've been England or Czechia next in line. Even France & Italy would've knocked Portugal out had they met. Sweden like England, Czechia etc...also had a better goals to game ratio than Portugal and Sweden technically didn't lose a game that tournament either. Portugal spent more time behind in games than in front during that tournament and didn't have a single thing that was better than everyone else and lost basically half their games and there was nothing wrong with SolCampbell's winning goal in the QF. Euro 2000 by far Portugal's most convincing tournament to date but even that year yet again only 4th best, Netherlands & Italy were scratching their heads how they didn't win that tournament more than Portugal were. And Portugal in World cups are even worse. The one major they won was via a fucked up format where they avoided Italy, Spain, Belgium & Germany but faced all the major tournament debutants or rarely qualified teams and barely won a 90minute match all tournament they were awful.

If you watched the tournament you will realize that they were in unlucky in these tournaments except for 2012 bcoz spain was too good for them. But if you look at 2010 world cup spain was lucky to beat portugal bcoz of their off side goal.

they made a pact when they were young because 8 was not even able when Xavi started playing, so he took 16 and then took 6 because it was free, finally 8 became free too but Iniesta came, and then as friends they've decided that Iniesta will be 8 at Barcelona, Xavi 6 and the opposite to spain

A disappointing game if u ask me. I remember at the time they were playing even better than the previous 2 tournaments at their most exciting. Cr7 was in the best form of his career and was on fire following the previous 2 games. Best player in the world vs best team in the world and what did we get ? A snooze fest. Cr7 showed flashes throughout the game but never quite took off. Likewise for Spain until extra time. Following this and south Africa in 2010,I was really angry that Spain and Portugal should've been match of the tournament both times round and wasn't. Thankfully in Russia 6 years later, they met again pretty much the same players and we finally got the match I was expecting from these 2 teams.

This ain't the 2018 world cup ,the Spain Vs Portugal match was yesterday🤔

Respect to Ronaldo. He eventually won it in 2016

Realmente meu irmão, concordo. Esta seleção era basicamente um apanhado dos amigos do Ronaldo que o Paulo Bento seleccionava para agradar ao CR vedeta e acabamos por chegar à semi final arrumados com pênaltis. Raio de mundo esquisito. Em 2000 com uma super geração fomos às semifinais e em 2004 perdemos em casa com a engraçadinha da Grécia ( Grécia, pelo amor de Deus !!! ) Em 2016 ganhamos com jogos a empatar. Nem Hollywood inventava uma história melhor.

Os jogadores mencionados não eram assim tao maus, excepto o Nelson Oliveira. Todos os outros jogaram internacionalmente ao mais alto nível. A equipa de 2012 era porventura do mesmo nível ou melhor que a de 2016... e jogava melhor futebol.

Incluso en el único momento que nos ayudarán en las invasiones napoleónicas se quedarán gobernando nuestro territorio por unos 10 años. Ni hablo de tratados desiguales, amenazas, casi nos hacían una guerra. Lo hemos dado todo por nada en cambio. Es una lástima que muchos portugueses tengan amnesia histórica de lo que los ingleses nos hicieron, pero haya desconfianza entre nuestros hermanos. Por veces me da la impresión que somos aquellos hermanos que nunca se han visto. Ask any manager. Except for Ronaldo have you seen any good penalty taker go last? And all penalties are equally important. If you score the 1st one it relieves pressure on the team. A real leader always leads (goes first). When Ronaldo saw that his teammates missed why didn't he step up? And this is not the only time his selfishness/cowardness has cost the team. And the 2016 penalty had no pressure. If he missed the score would be tied even if Atletico scored the next penalty. It was literally a "winning" penalty. How was he under pressure? Open your eyes. Don't be a blind fanboy

Our players of our country portugal werent the best here but we played so much better in this euro 2012 the next euro we won i got happy for it but our football was so defensive and weak im suprised we won still think we had a stroke of luck we didnt play nothing in most of the euro 2016 games and we still won thank u wales;poland and france to make the path easier for us because i coudlnt see us beating germany;belgium or switerzerland the way that we were playing tbh.

That is just my opinion tho, Best player shoots first to lead the charge of the team. Most mature player takes last shot. but I do Remember Ronaldo has been known for shooting last even when he was a youngster he took the last penalty in the shootout against England in the 2006 World cup
