Best do this in dead winter or have no other bushes near. My neighbor burned old brush pile and stump thought the fire was out. The root burned for days finally caught the bushes on fire that were quite a ways from the original fire. Luckily the other neighbor saw the bushes on fire and called the fire dept. Owner was positive the fire was out but the root was like a fuse under the ground.

Same here, I burn some smooth bark mesquite trees.After the fire was out ( or I thought it was ). I stacked some new brush on top of the previous burn spot like 6 days later. On the 7th day, my wife came out and told me, "Are you really fire burning again" I looked outside, and that new stack of materials caught on fire. Here's a tip, the ash over the top of the charcoal is like a insulator. It will keep the fire "smothering". When I added the new wood, I probably disturbed ash and allowed air and with the new materials, it was able to catch on fire.
When I bought my house, there were 3 large pine stumps. I hollowed out the center with a chain saw and turned them into planters. 10 years later, they are starting to break down, but they still serve their purpose.

Huh never really thought about doing it that way, but I can definitely see how the oil would saturate the stump. The holes would also help keep it burning like a Dakota fire pit. Word to the wise, when it's as low as you need, flood the whole area with water. As much as you can, because those roots can keep burning slowly under ground and spread the burn to other nearby places.

I've seen several people comment on other videos about how the roots can burn underground. I don't doubt that they can, but I don't understand how they can without oxygen. I've got a large tree about 15 feet away from my stump that I plan on burning, so I am concerned about it.
@davethekiwibloke
Жыл бұрын
@@twc9000 Dirt is porous, so even underground there's small amounts of oxygen available for combustion, and also from the space that the burned material leaves behind. The release of heat also causes movement/shrinkage in the soil as moisture dissipates and allows air to slowly filter in. When the conditions are right (and it's not alway so), the underground fire can burn for a long time...also as an interesting related topic, read up on underground peat fires, those are scary.

That's almost exactly how I've always burned stumps. There are only a couple differences., such as the size of the holes and I use the stump as the base for a regular campfire that I light with paper or dead leaves. I've always done it that way in all of my 64 years and is the absolute best way to do the job while having a cookout. or party.

Hot coals and forced air with a air compesser hose. Fastest I've ever seen.
I've heard of people taking a corded blower (on low) or directional fan to make the stump, coal, and wood burn faster and hotter. This is a good way to get rid of stumps to at least ground level. Over time they will disintegrate below ground.

Next stump you should do the barrel method. Get an old barrel or aluminum trash can, drill some holes around the bottom, throw some kindling on it and I suppose you could use old oil to help it. If I ever have to get rid of a stump I'm going to try that out but since you have 20 stumps I bet you could do it and see what the outcome/differences are. I've also seen people make it into a rocket stump burner but I don't think I would want to deal with blowing air into it. Go search barrel stump burner if you don't know what I'm talking about.

When drilling fairly deep into wood, especially slightly or more wet wood, the resistance against the drill bit will become to be very much, so the bit must be slowly removed from the hole while still turning, to make the hole diameter slightly bigger than the bit, to eliminate the resistance. About every 8 seconds. The hand-operated drill motor is getting Hot drilling that much.

cement mixing tub is wider and would cover the entire stump. :) also might want to use draft to your advantage by drilling down deep into the stump, saturate with oil, then dill out the bottom of the stump into the soil crating a sort of central air shaft. Then take a soil auger and drill down through the soil at a angle to meet up with the bottom of the " central air shaft" in the middle of the stump, creating a sort of rocket stove. the additional airflow will help keep the fire lit even once the first pile of logs has burnt up.

depends on the type of trees your'e trying to graft. They can't just graft to any other type of tree typically. Also, a trunk that large is going to rot before a graft can take hold. It also appears weathered, so it's already dead.

@senatorjosephmccarthy2720

It might if the barrel is set on about 6 bricks so somewhere around the right amount of air can be drawn in from the fire. Too much air and some of the advantage is lost, not enough and same. I'd say the chances of it creating a helpful draft are small and not worth the time. The diagonal holes can intersect the center fire hole, making them air intake, and will provide plenty of draft.

This is what we use amzn.to/3LEtC2V sometimes it takes another application after 6 months to completely wipe it out, but it worked for us in FLA. Thanks for watching and asking, have a fantastic week my friend. Guru Mike
Did you know that on most battery operated drills, like that red one that you use, if you tighten the chuck by hand and click it twice, that loosen it one click, the chuck locks and the but will not fall out? However if you leave it at the 2 click point it will loosen 55% of the time for some reason that i do not know.

The wick of a candle burns slower with wax. A stump burns slower with oil. Just the holes and maybe some chain-saw slacks should do the job maybe some air forced in to the fire?

You aren’t worried about the fire following the roots and popping up somewhere else?

@@MrKnowItAllGuru maybe it’s only pine trees that happens with. But I really like how you address getting rid of the stumps.
I have had luck running an extension cord to stump and plugging in a box fan. Doesn't have to blow hard and must be monitored but stump will go away.

Is there a reason you drilled the first hole on an angle ?..
@MrKnowItAllGuru
Жыл бұрын
Please re-watch the video and listen very closely. The very first hole I drilled in the center of the stump was straight down, the next one was on an angle and that was to intersect with the first hole. Thanks for watching. Guru Mike
You know what would be a lot easier. Just cover the stumps in leaves and in about two years the stumps are gone.

Good to know! I know exactly where that is, Thanks! We appreciate the view and info my friend, have a great weekend. Guru Mike & team
It would have been better if you dug ad deep as you could around the outside of the stump first then tunneled inward toward the center creating a rocket stove. Also I would have chain sawed across the top for more air and sawed a core out of the center. Then put magnesium in the center. That would have created 3500 degrees fahrenheit and virtually melted away your stump in 1 day no need for 5 days presoak.

Thanks Jeff for your comment the whole idea behind this was to show people they can use up their old turkey fryer french fry grease in a good way without causing problems with the neighbors and to keep it as simple as possible most homeowners do not have a lot of tools again thanks for your comment have a great day
