I always love the look on the new guys' face when I say we're taking the stumps but he knows I don't have a stump grinder. Good video Bino, people always think stumps, especially small ones, are impossible without a giant excavator.

Keep the stump long to provide extra leverage to yank or push on once you've weakened the root ball. A sawzall can also be your friend to cut the roots if chopping the roots isn't going so well.

True more leverage is best if you know you're going to dig it out. True a sawall can help. I really like the Pulaski also a MUTT or a Slammer. Thanks for sharing!

Those axes with the tiny mattock on the back are ok, but if you ever try out a real cutter mattock, you won't use the axe anymore. Whatever you use, putting a proper edge on it will save a lot of effort. Love your vids, Bino!

I like the Mattocks more if I'm just digging but I like the light weight of the Pulaski when I'm removing roots especially if there's lots of roots. Great tip about keeping your tool sharp that makes a huge difference in energy use and time used. I sharpen everything. If I'm planting a tree you can be sure I've sharpened my shovel. Thanks for sharing!

Problem is my tree stump is wedged in a tight space behind my shed which is right in front of my cement carport(6 ft high wall) and my neighbors fence right next to that. It’s growing under their fence so I really only have access to 1 side. I have all the items that you mention. I’ve even tried to access it with a saw the space is too tight 😩 it’s like 2ft by 1 ft

There is a tool called MUTT it might be helpful. www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-mutt-with-wood-handle-95005.html?campaignid=19160190702&adsetid=149829371488&product=95005&store=414&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAjfyqBhAsEiwA-UdzJJM82ve4F6bTE3hjf565_u8CqDxUnqQVzsuWFyKIwpSO326pJryp7RoCjacQAvD_BwE

Is it safe for me to do this with a stump right outside my patio? It’s very small, like half a square foot but it’s deep and my soil is wet

I'm not sure if it's to tight of a spot you might hit something. A saw and shovel and pruners may work better.

I’ve removed dozens of oak stumps and even a redwood 🥴. These methods are for small trees, most of the trees I removed were over 2’ in diameter.

I have to admit I would much rather use a stump grinder but if you can't get equipment to your stump and the only option is to grub it out then cutting roots further out fist and then finish cuts close to the trunk makes a huge deference. Take care!
