In high school I used to play a game with my friends called "useless superpowers" where you'd take turns coming up with superpowers that had some sort of limitation that made them way less cool. My favorite example: You can summon bears but can't control them. Anyway, I think "you have telekinesis but only on aluminum foil" would have been a strong entry for that game.

The thing is, its absolutely possible to learn how to do basically anything blindfolded with enough trial and error. People speedrun entire games blindfolded effortlessly. The difference is they don't do it to scam people, and they definitely do not indoctrinate kids into their scams.
The "expose as much skin as possible while practicing mind-sight" seems like a cheat. Like, your skin is a sensory organ, it gathers information through touch. If you're blindfolded and naked, your skin can help you tell your surroundings by just slightly brushing against things.

This honestly reminds me of when i thought shifting was a real thing, when its actually just a bunch of teenagers saying random bullshit. I was in a bad place mentally, so the idea of being able to run away to whatever world i thought would be better sounded great on paper. Then of course you learn its a bunch of bullshit after humiliating yourself for about two weeks trying to do it. I was sad that i wasted all of my time doing something just to learn it wouldn't change anything, but it did also teach me a lesson on trying to find better ways of coping. These types of things are either kids just trying to have fun by pretending theyre magic, or teens and adults being assholes to people more vulnerable than them by making them believe in things that ultimately hold no merit.

I mean, you can mentally "shift" to another world. Which is not that far off from the original premise. That's how reading/hearing stories work, a good one can make you feel like you are in that world. And with your own imagination, you can create your own world to "escape" to. The brain is more easy to manipulate than most realize, dangerously so.

They probably feel a lot of pressure to 'succeed' because all of the adults (including their own parents) are pushing this idea. What if all the adults at that school are so certain that telekinesis is a thing and simply won't give up on forcing the children to learn it, that the children came up with a way to fake it just to be left alone? It seems like none of the teachers can do it themselves, but they still insist that anyone can learn it. So maybe the kids just found a way to placate the adults.

it also turns out that its possible to hang a door wrong so that it will sometimes swing open and closed at random times. If its uneven, for example, and it doesn't latch properly, an almost imperceptible gust of wind can be enough for it to open all on its own. Once its done properly, it stops happening. Pressure differentials can also be enough to cause that. I remember countless times growing up when someone would open one door (even an internal one) and it would cause the garage door to slam shut. I think its easy for a lot of people to forget that we live in a medium: air. We aren't always aware of it, we can't always detect the miniscule ways it moves around us, but even in a seemingly still environment its still swirling and moving, we just can't detect it without tools.

Hi Danny, that "karate" school is actually a pencak silat school from Indonesia. It's called Merpati Putih (meaning white dove) which you can see on the logos in their gym and badges. I immediately recognized it because I used to train in that school in Indonesia lol. I'm actually surprised they have a branch in the USA, but I can confirm that the blindfolded stuff is something they make us do because spirituality is a huge component of pencak silat as a martial art. But usually, it's to train your focus, spatial awareness, and hearing. Merpati Putih primarily focuses on self-defense, not to arbitrarily become psychic 😂😂
