INFLATABLE BOAT ⎸ What MOTOR should I BUY?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A common question we get asked is what motor do I pair with my inflatable boat?
Stryker LX Series
(Ideal for 2-3 people)
LX 250 pairs well with a Mercury 6hp
LX 270 pairs well with a Mercury 9.9-15hp
LX 320 pairs well with a Mercury 9.9-15hp
Great performance for 2-3 people. If you are putting 4 +people plus gear, you will want to look at a 15hp for a LX 270 and 320.
If you aren't getting your boat up on plane, you will be pushing water and using more fuel and energy to move your boat. You will use a significant amount of fuel to get up on plane, break the surface tension in the water as you start to gain momentum cutting the water. If you have the right amount of power to get your boat up on plane, you will be getting the absolute best performance out on the water. Your going to get to where you want to go much quicker plus all around your going to have a really nice time with the boat properly set up.
Stryker LX Series
(Ideal for 2-3 people)
Stryker LX 360 pairs well with a Mercury 20hp
Stryker LX 380 pairs well with a Mercury 20hp
Stryker LX 420 pairs well with a Mercury 20hp
Stryker HD 380 pairs well with a Mercury 20hp
Stryker HD 420 pairs well with a Mercury 20-30hp
Stryker PRO 380 pairs well with a Mercury 20hp
STRYKER PRO 420 pairs well with a Mercury 20-30hp
A Mercury 30 hp is ideal for 4-6 people plus gear.
The reason why we love the Mercury 20hp is it's incredibly lightweight, under 100lbs. It's incredibly fuel efficient, fuel injected rather than carbonated, you get a lot of bang for your buck. There is a ton of horsepower delivered to the prop.
The Mercury 20hp is lightweight, easy to use, a motor we can't say enough good things about. Performance is at the thrust of the throttle!
Motors in the last few years have been a great investment. They have held their value extremely well. They come with a 5 year warranty, that gives you peace of mind knowing that your investment is protected.

    I really had fun with my 320pro combined with a 9.9 this summer it was really awesome, although if i could start over i would definitivly put a 15 or 20hp on it cause the minute there is wave its really hard to get on plane, or with 3 adults on board a 9.9 is just not enough

    For fishing is a 25 hp merc prokicker preferred for better trolling gearing and enough motor to scoot around on a 420/470? Or can you troll pretty good with the normal 25hp merc? Thinking of trolling in ocean for salmon and lakes for trout with downrigger set ups.

    In our experience the pro kicker is not what you want as your main motor. They are designed to push large boats around as an auxiliary motor. I’d stick with with the 25hp standard motor IMO

    Interesting and good to know. All depends on size of boat and your own capabilities. Up to 6HP usually have built in fuel tank which make them convenient and on the lighter side. More HP = heavier.

    @@Sea-Bass Correct. I've been running INMAR inflatables in Minnesota since 2011 and you can sit on the tubes because they are designed for it. The 2024 reg book reads as follows: To ride or sit on the gunwales, bow, transom, or decking over the bow, sides or stern of any motorboat while underway, unless it is equipped with an adequate railing. It is also illegal to operate a motorboat while any person is riding or sitting in a manner as just listed. The tubes are themselves are an 'adequate' railing.

    Hi, the internals in the EFI 9.9,15,20hp are identical between the Tohatsu and Mercury. The Mercury has a much nicer fit and finish akd tiller handle that is way nicer and centered and allows for much better operator configuration. The Mercury non EFI 9.9 and Tohatsu 9.8 are essentially the same motor weighing in at 81 lbs. I agree completely with 20hp every time. Doesn’t make sense to leave 5hp on the table. 💯⚓️

  • @StrykerInflatableBoats

    Lol…at the current rate of inflation almost everyone who purchased toys in the last few years have already made money on their investment. Another way to look at it is your investing in your life. Typically people who make comments like yours only consider the fiscal aspect of a purchase. This is a very small ‘investment’ in the grand scheme of things considering what it’s able to offer you and your family. 😎⚓️

    Why do so many people including this person, sit on the wrong side to operate an outboard motor. Do they not realize that the tiller is placed in the position it is to facilitate turning AND the torque of the prop tends to twist the boat to the right. Sitting on the right side allows you to properly control and turn the motor as well as offset the torque created. Hard for me to take this person seriously when I see this kind of mistake. Unbelievable.

  • @StrykerInflatableBoats

    @StrykerInflatableBoats

    Hey guys, I personally prefer to sit on the port side as I also spend the other half of my time on a motorcycle. Using the tiller with my right arm feels much more natural as it’s also my throttle arm. I also have fairly serious nerve injury in my left arm, and personally it just feels much more comfortable in this position. All major brands of outboards have now positioned the tiller in the center to allow the operation to be equal for either side of operation. The torque behind the tiller is nothing to lose sleep over. Never had an issue with any size tiller in the slightest. Believe it. 💯😎⚓️

  • @montyspearo

    @montyspearo

    When sitting port pontoon on wider boats tiller is to far away. There shouldn't be any noticable torque from motor on tiller if skeg (anode) is set to right angle. If operating from pontoon highly recommend bolting foot strap from windsurfer to floor. Before fitting foot strap I put lanyard and kill switch to test once.

    i worked in surf rescue for a few years, and i always sit on the port side, simply as a safety thing. turning your wrist towards yourself is a far more natural motion than turning away from yourself. if you hit a big wave, you'll take it back down to idle rather than redline. each to his own though. because of the amount of practice i have sitting on the port side, i'll only ever sit on the port side.
