INFJ/P AND BPD … identity has been an issue my entire life. Been able to blend in with ANY group (in highschool I was able to make friends with the jocks, skids, nerds, grungers, preps..), have been employed in 30 different fields.. such randomness! All coming together and to light in the last year at 45yrs old.

@@INFJWay well since I can absorb the feelings of others so well and adapt to any environment and the persons needs by intuiting the state of their psyche, which is much deeper than just behavioral mimicry it is more like mental mastery of the personality itself. Literally putting yourself in their shoes "so to speak". since INFJs have an amoral judging function unlike the others types it gives us the advantage of understanding even the most evilest of minds, I think this is one of the reasons many other cognitive types find INFJs to be intimidating, probably because they see themselves (or they don't like the reflection) /:) ..since a well developed cognitive stack of an INFJ will instinctive shift their own mindset to the person before them in order to analyze and assess the person they are dealing with in order to make them happy (fulfill a desire) to fulfill an altruistic want to help the other (if the INFJ is healthy that is) which means shifting their mental processing to mimic that personality to understand their needs. I think it's why we slow process everything else that isn't feeling or intuitive data. Whereas an INTP will change externally but as another KZreadr put it, seem awkward doing it because they are the same person just faking it for a short time to appear something else to please others. Their perceiving function adapts well and their empathetic nature because of their cognitive stack does desire social acceptance so it's like changing color to them, but to an INFJ we change form function and color. It's why I could go to any country in the world and mesh with the culture pretty easily almost overnight adaptation.. whereas other types would be amiss, or struggling. I used to do this unknowingly before my early 20s but since learning and understanding myself better now in my mid 30s ..I am better at controlling this mental expression, and I am more sure about who I am as a woman, so I prefer to limit the time I spend with people who do not deserve my company. This helps from absorbing negative traits from cluster Bs. lol

I do feel like I have a tendency to dabble in many skills, many subjects, but for me it feels like there's often real value in "taking these different skills and subjects" and combining them into a more complete "whole" that feels more complete and "useful" to me. To me, it's almost like how "If someone has a hammer, that is a useful tool, but it's limited. If someone has a screwdriver, it can do some things that hammers do not do well, but still limited." To me, the real answer is having enough diversity in the toolbox to be able to do most of the things necessary to "complete the complex task in question."

Not bragging , just a fact !....l have excelled at many things , yet my family and friends don't know the depths of my knowledge , .....l keep it hidden , besides they wouldn't understand what I'm talkinging about. I played pocket billiards at World Class level at 22 years old. Studied Sports Psychology to train myself, .... implemented Eastern Philosophy techniques of Meditation to my practice and everyday life. I hardly played for 30 years , yet l play close to the same level as when l practiced everyday. Master your mind , master the game , master of wisdom , master of life. Took the MBTi five times about 2 years ago, all INFJ results. As l reflected on my life , things l had done , decisions l made , and values l hold ,.....my personality is 98 % INFJ. I wish l knew about the MBTI when l was younger , because it might of help me to understand myself better versus always feeling like a stranger in a strange land. In life , we play the cards we have been dealt . Does a man choose his destiny ?....or it already chosen ?......they sound different yet they are the same. The Wheel of Life , ....and our past Karma determine our fate in this life.

Yeah as an INFJ myself I know the feeling of not being good at just 1 thing. It messed me up a bit cause its like having several paths in front of you and you don't know which one to pick. It makes me less focussed. And I feel like I'm lost in the woods at some days. I even took an aptitude test (an entire afternoon) only to get a 49% this...49% that...2% this result. "Congratulations you are the sheep with 5 legs. You need to cut off 1 leg and focus on the other 4". 😱🤕 Yes I am a freak of nature good at several things but I refuse to cut off a leg to fit in better with society's view on who I should be. To be honest I am still looking for ways to use all 5 legs and I'm looking to create a 6th leg. Sure if I compare myself to others focussed on 1 thing I feel like a f-up but I can only be me in this life. And the real me is the freaky sheep with 5 legs. Sorry not sorry.

@@INFJWay I don't know them, but I'll check them out. Thank you. My mindset was kinda caused by a trifecta of events that changed me forever. I was the unhealthy unaware INFJ before....and now I am a more relaxed healthier happier INFJ. I met a narcissist, had a burnout and then lockdown happened. Life changer, so happy it happened. I wasn't aware I am an INFJ (this explains a lot🤯😀), no self knowledge, didn't do selfcare, no bounderies, the needs of others before myself, perfectionistic people pleaser, I am always "ok". But the irony in life is that you only value something when you loose it. A narc exploits your weaknesses....but also shows you your weaknesses and the strenghts that belong with them...its up to us to find the balance. A burnout...its like the computer that is your brain crashed...your brain goes back to factory settings and you meet your authentic self. I had to realise "I like my authentic self better , yeah I am keeping her".😍😎 During a burnout you reLIVE the past events that shaped you. But some lessons we learn through the eyes of a child...as an adult you realise you came to the wrong conclusions. During a burnout you get to decide which files you put back on the computer and which go into the trash. I think the perfectionistic nature of the INFJ doesn't benefit us. It can cause us much pain. I used to look at my life like: perfection/normal - this event- that event = I am a mess/work in progress. Now I don't want to be normal/perfect. I want to be me....the sheep with 5 legs...its what I was born to be. It may not be perfect but no one is perfect. To strive for perfection is to tell yourself you aren't good enough as you are. Thats not a mindset I want in my life. Thats toxic (like a narc) and not a pleasant way of living. Now I see my past as: authentic self + gained knowledge/wisdom/strength = me, good just the way I am. And in the future I will only become better not less perfect with every new experience. To me life is (self) discovery and growth. I have no clue how I can use all 5 of my legs. But I know I'll try to. And after lockdown I will shock the h€ll out of my friends cause I have changed A LOT these last couple of years. 😂🤣 I am an INFJ that grew up in an estj house hold. I am the only introvert...or according to my family "hermit". 🙄 And I am the only feeler. To them my feelings was me whining. I suppressed my feelings all my life cause I thought it was my weakness being too sensitive. Thats like the sheep with 5 legs not using one of the legs. Our empathy and ability to see behind masks is our biggest gift. To not use it is a wast and toxic cause you don't see the pitfalls that accompany that strength....and it gets used against you by a narc. It used to suck the life out of me and I didn't know why...no balance.😏 After my burnout/knowing I am INFJ/a mindfulness class I am learning to use the 5th leg. Its like gaining a super power. I spend my whole life not being who I was meant to be but trying to make myself into someone else. Now because of the trifecta I feel free, relaxed, happy and enthusiastic. This should have happened years ago. As an INFJ we are too focused on others to know ourselves. And if no one teaches us to be who we are...we don't know who we are. The idea that there are infj's out there torturing themselves not knowing is so sad to me now. I watched a tv series during lockdown about an infj/intj relationship and one line is the best description of an infj I have ever heard. "You are one of a kind in this world. And entangled in your own magic". Exactly! She goes from weak doormat to strong wise woman. Thats exactly it. If we see our strength as a weakness we feel weak and fall victim to those that would exploit us. Once we use our ability we see through those people and know its our strength/wisdom. 👍😀💪

I think chameleon seems more scattered than it is. N learning starts slow. A tendency to drill down deep in things of interests negates this “ jack of all trades identity issue I think. ... Infj probably gather various skill/ knowledge unnoticed. Doing creative things seems a needed piece of my puzzle as an infj and a way to be “ in the moment too.. “ whether as a job or not, such pieces I can’t do without, and having 40 things I’m interested in is also fundamental part of infj character. Personally I sometimes envy people who are more simply focused, but no, it’s a good thing too... I don’t talk and chew gum ( multitask. ? There are 2 sides to this. As an INFJ I have often felt awkward when socialising. I put this down to Ni and Ti not being as dynamic as Ne and Te. Also being tertiary Ti means more deliberate and slower thinking. Also, Ni is slow. But I am good at blending in with people of very different types. I guess this mirroring and often awkwardness are key reasons why we get underestimated.

@@INFJWay Hi, Tinh! I will give you the short answer when I found out I was an INFJ.........."Huh, well that makes sense". Long version......ok I won't go long but elaborating a little haha. It was like I had this perpetual feeling of being very different than everyone else. Think outside the box? I always imagined, no box to think out of. It's really funny how I ended up in a 20 plus military career and successfully retiring. I was WAY different than my peers. As a leader, years later I was able to empathize with subordinates to understand actions they have taken, and sometimes that played a significant role in possible punishment or a strict learning point to teach. Empathy played a major role the majority of my life though regardless. BUT back to my career....crazy. I started in the Marine Corps in 1992 and my ex-wife convinced me to leave, get a degree from university.....maybe be an officer someday. The transition was brutal, but I focused on my goals, and after I left the Corps in 98, I finished my BA in History by 2001. I applied to Army Officer Candidate School (OCS), and by the end of the summer I was accepted. I would ship to OCS in Feb 02.....however, less than a month after I was accepted...911 happened. Most of my family was not supportive of me continuing down my path, my ex-wife had my back though. I left, and commissioned a 2nd LT summer 02. By Fall 03, I was in Afghanistan. By October 04, my mom had passed from colon cancer, my wife left for someone else that she met while I was deployed and by July 05...I left the Army. I lost a lot of myself (abridged version :) ). By August 07, I was back in and going to the Captain's Career Course as a 1st LT. Jump ahead to 2013. I cracked the code on how to shape my life using the power of positivity, Law of Attraction and everything fell into place. I knew that anything I wanted or wanted to accomplish, I could. Although I had a motto though, Want for Nothing. Simple goals. Make Major, get selected for Command General Staff College (CGSC). The Army only takes about 50% for residency to the campus at Fort Leavenworth. So you can spend a year in school, OR continue with your new job as a major and do distance learning online. I didn't want that. I was selected though (as I imagined) and they tested us on the MBTI in the first week. I was the only INFJ in our small group of 15. I do not know the stats for the other 900 other students. By 2016, I was in South Korea and knew that I could not continue on my career without a lot of sarcasm with the current president. I decided I had enough and my mission was complete. By the end of Korean tour I would go back to the states and be retired within a year. I was and have been retired since the summer of 2018. I still start everyday the same since I cracked the code in 2013. Prayer, meditation, affirmations. I create my Universe and the Universe reflects back to me. A perfect mirror. If I had to sum up my INFJ experience in a nutshell in three words: Planning, structure, discipline.................Thanks for asking Tinh. You know INFJs love to write haha. Good question! I can hear your question before you asked. What am I doing now? Treading water. Wash, rinse, repeat. Looking for a new beat. And thanks again for your reply. I think in the last 8yrs of watching youtube I have made less than 5 comments and I think this is the third time the host owner replied back to me. So. I guess I am a very selective INFJ. Hate being in a box btw. Looking to be my own IN something something someday lol. Be safe and well, and keep up the great work!

This whole myersbriggs thing has reached a point where it is at the same level as astrology. . . The Myersbriggs system is supposed to be used in tandem with other analytical tools. because human behaviour and psychology is fluid and moves along a spectrum. everyone mimics and tries to blend in that is actually a typical human behaviour that is intuitive to help establish good social stability in a group. That is basic human behaviour and is not unique to anyone. Neither is the level of quick learning which is based on both nature and nurture effects and also the structure of the brain. This is why the whole Myersbriggs system unless used alongside other analytical tools and with professional oversight. Is no better than reading the astrology page in some tabloid. Its just superstition. . .

It is amazing isn't it? We are very good at seeing the big picture and the end goal. The steps and details can be hard to grasp. Details and steps don't seem to come as lightning fast as some of our big picture ideas. This is where I've found it useful to speak to someone like an INTJ to help work through the details. It does hurt sometimes because the grand goal can end up being taken down to earth and the glossy beautiful idea will look more rough and dull. However, let the process unfold and you will eventually reach that goal and it will be just what it needs to be in this world.

INFJ's dont have personalities. Most other ppl do due to evolution. Ppls personality is born out of the minds need to identify with its culture (parents, school, religious institutions, society etc) for survival in a way that will ensure its own survival. This requires a subconscious need to adhere and conform to culture and, thus, be moulded as such, its why INFJ's feel a bit bored with ppl because most ppl are a direct result of culture itself and often ppl just seem a bit samey-samey. Their personalities are fixed, predictable and highly straightjacketed. These ppl continue to outsource their sense to self and esteem to the culture for approval and so the cycle of conformity continues throughout their entire lives. Its why when an INFJ talks with someone about ideas, taboo, risky jokes etc ppl are actually very uncomfortable as the sleepy masses, particularly as they grow up, are so systematically hardwired by whatever the culture norm is. INFJ's are extremely hard to manipulate as they are simply emotionally hardwired differently. We do not value culture. We do not value tradition for the sake of it, a kinda circular logic. We are kinda like the fish out of water hence why we become existentialists, psychologists, philosophers, absurdist, surrealist, comedians etc. We are not susceptible to the allure of society. This may be a result of biological conditions - Asperger's and autism being an extremer version, it may be a result of trauma as a child or parental neglect or abuse. Raring styles are a means of ensuring that the child respects and values authority (the parents). This authority by parents should reflect the environment (society). If these are established this child will have a higher chance of growing up a 'normal person' where that openness/lack of identity will not take place and they will respect the new authority that reflected the old one (from parent to society). Its why most ppl are willing to work all their lives/get a house/do what everyone else does, to serve society and family (A respect for the new authority). Its also why we have broken ppl who's first authority were bad parents that showed inconsistent behaviour relative to culture. These ppl grow up criminals, addicts, violent etc. The first thing INFJ's need to realise is that they dont have a strong self and never will. You simply cannot create a self as a self is self-created. Its subliminal, its subconscious, its the part that basically controls us while also cleverly giving us the illusion of free-will. Our nature is freedom (from cultural norms) and free association (no clear identity therefor no clear identification process). Its why our minds are so abstract and theoretical but also prone to a constant sense of exile. The only time a sense of self emerges is, of course like other ppl, is when we are with ppl like us, other INFJ's. Its here we feel a natural sense of connection, a depth in dialogue and humour take place, a sense of being understood. Its like that sense of loneliness just disappears instantly. Hope this of some use :-)

I'm so happy to find this comment because its so f*cking true.. I think about it everyday. Also it made me wonder if this is why we're attracted to or get attraction from broken/neglected people because they're different from the "samey/culture" based people.. they feel less "boring" too ... Very good comment, thank you.
