Coyote hunting is about the only method of controlling the spread of coyotes and their numbers far exceed the number taken by hunters. Trapping coyotes does not work well at all as they are usually too smart to be taken with traps.
Science has shown that coyotes take a heavy toll on whitetail fawns. At least one study found that coyotes can eat as many as 75 percent of the fawns born in a single spring and deer populations are declining in some parts of the country, possibly as a result of an increase in coyote numbers.
Coyotes have spread to 49 states in the USA and are presently the most abundant livestock predators in North America, causing the majority of sheep, goat, and cattle losses. Hundreds of thousands of sheep, cattle, and goats fall victim to predators each year. In fact, predators cause some of the most significant losses to the sheep industry nationwide. Livestock losses attributed to predators cost U.S. ranchers and producers more than $71 million annually, according to statistics compiled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) NationalAgricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
The coyote (Canis latrans) is a species of canine native to North America. It is smaller than its close relative, the wolf, and slightly smaller than the closely related eastern wolf and red wolf. It fills much of the same ecological niche as the golden jackal does in Eurasia. The coyote is larger and more predatory and was once referred to as the American jackal by a behavioral ecologist. Other historical names for the species include the prairie wolf and the brush wolf.

Your video helped me decide to go with Pulsar for 2x XP50 Pro, wider FOV and I use a Trail and Helion. I predator and hog hunt in wooded areas where FOV is king. Wish Pulsar would extend their warranty. If InfiRay would have had 2X I would have choose them for a longer warranty period.

Great review. The XG 50 lrf with higher base magnification up against the bolt would be another good one.

I can’t say for sure but I believe it was Hans let me know that the Pulsar has a similar incremental zoom on the side turret similar to what the Bolt has on the top turret. I did not know it before I moved the Thermion 2 Pro down the line so I can’t speak from direct experience there. I can say that the specs on paper were better for the Pulsar in regards to the thermal sensor sensitivity. I had high hopes for more detail in the image because of this but I ended up being disappointed. The specs are higher but I don’t think the algorithm as written on my firmware version from a couple months ago could keep up with that capability. The image processing actually seemed to he hamstring quite a bit because of it. I’d go out on a limb and speculate that the programmers could t keep up with the sensor capabilities and had to modify how the image is processed for reflectance. I’m very familiar with thermal operations and couldn’t find a setting that worked well to pick up my reflective target at 60yds. I ended up sending my dealer several videos trying to get help with the settings and see if Pulsar support would work with them on it. It can seem trivial to be worried about picking up a reflective target when most animals aren’t at all reflective but in addition to not providing more target definition the lack of reflective items appearing in my image was a major concern for me due to the amount of animal removals I do around livestock pens and property boundary fences. The Thermion2 Pro rarely picked up wire or chain link fencing and often showed nothing but blurred lines for cattle panels and pipe fencing etc. I feel the image on the Bolt tl50 “at the eye piece” is considerably better than the Thermion2 Pro just because of the display screen but the recorded video is pretty close as described in this review. Thank you Sir. This was a very thorough review and I appreciate your time on it

Thanks for watching and taking time to reply. The Thermion does have zoom function using the controller knob. I covered that in my Thermion 2Pro review, but the bolt has only the scroll zoom and no button you can click to quickly double the magnification each click. The NETD rating or heat separation as I call it, is a little better on the Pulsar. Not only in the background image but for targets. On one hunt I could clearly see see coyotes moving in trees about 400 yds away with my Helion scanner and could not see them with the Bolt, even though the overall image was excellent. As far as reflection, I think it has a lot to do with angle. If you look directly into a window you can see your refection, but you look at it from an angle you will not, like looking into a mirror. Reflection matters more in sunlight than at night. If a wire is the same temp as the background at night, you will not see it. Too, there is the base magnification. A wire may be more visible in the Bolt with the 3.5X at the same distance than 2X Thermion because it just appears larger. In videos, images appear closer with scopes with narrow fields of view when the image is stretched across a 16x9 computer screen. I did a side by side comparison of two Pulsar 2.5x scopes. They look exactly the same magnification through the scopes but one had a much wider FOV so in the video one looked to have more magnification. Thanks for your comments. I will study the reflection a little in the field. Thanks

On some of our scope and scanner reviews we have taken our dog out to 100 and 200 yards for reference. Do you think that is helpful? We compared pulsar XG50LRF and the XP50 side by side at measured distances.
