Great review! I recently finished the game, and I had a great time with it. I spent the first two hours maxing out my strength. Then I found the Blue Skeleton in the catacombs that gives you 250XP for each kill. Needless to say, I know his attack pattern. Max level gameplay is fun. I missed out on the other endings, but I feel like playing through this game once was enough for me. Thanks Game Pass!

Because good games aren't reliant on jaw dropping graphics alone. Gameplay is king, and always has been mate

Great review. I'm almost at the end and like how your review shows late game footage. Most IGN reviews show the first 5 minutes because you know they havn't played past the options.

Really looking forward to playing this. I'm one of those people who loved Simon's Quest on the NES as a kid.

i LOVED this game. Could not put it down. I was more excited for deedlit in wonder labyrinth at first and I beat it but thought it was just ok then I booted this up and was very pleasantly surprised. Great little game. Loved some of the tongue in cheek humour. I wont spoil the jokes but theres is quite a few funny hidden secrets :)

Yea I have to agree with you... I was playing through Deaths Gambit Afterlife and trying out Ender Lillie's since I enjoy metroidvania with Souls inspired 2-D combat alot but I had no idea until recently how great of a game this was. I randomly decided to pick it up and got lucky to snag a physical copy of the game and wow its utterly entertaining. One of my favorite games of 2022 now..

Almost done with blasphemous. DEFINITELY getting this one. Probably on the switch even though its less on the ps network

This is basically Shovel Knight for us fans of Zelda / Castlevania 2, and I'm super stoked it plays as good as it looks. Another great game from Berzerk!

This may not get the recognition level of Elden Ring, but with feats like Berzerk Studios, gamers will worship this masterpiece.

Just finished this and I have zero complaints, outside of saying I wish the final boss area was a full dungeon but that’s really it. Often, when a modern game sets out to emulate classic retro game, there’s usually something wrong with it. Whether it’s the music is subpar, or the characters/graphics look overly goofy or just plain bad. But this game did everything well. Music on par with classic NES stuff.

there are some alternate paths that require a skill to access, but we wouldn't call it a Metroidvania.

Hi! Reviewer here. It took me a little over ten hours with side missions, but the developers said it should be around seven hours for a first play through. I would go off their estimate because i typically take a bit longer than most. From what I can tell there seem to be at least 4 different endings.

I think I liked Odallus more, but its a cool game.

Tried this. Some bad hitboxes and being hit by traps activating off screen made me turn it off.

Pretty much. There is even an easter egg that references a specific event form Simon's Quest. Also that you must conquer five mansions before you can enter the final one. The day and night cycle.

For a bit of fun...name your character "Ass". I don't know if other words work but there's a funny bit right after you put in your name

Love side scrolling games but with modern graphics like Metroid Dread, Castlevania Lords of Shadows-Mirror of Fate and so on. These 8-bit era games not so much.

It's so good it's even better than Elden Ring

This one's for people like Kenny Ryan. This is literally the best game ever created. I was playing it with a girl nearby and when she witnessed my skills she was so impressed that she begged me to take her virginity to which I replied, "hold up this is more important" and then we banged after I finished the final boss. This game literally healed my ball cancer. I will always be indebted to this godlike game. Anyone who disagrees drinks piss in a glass with a tiny umbrella for real.

this game is one of the reasons i despise Limited Run Games. This game is amazing, i want a physical copy for preservation reasons, but Limited Run Games closed the preorders so fast i didnt even know this game existed before it closed.

Oh there's plenty of cheap deaths in this game, it's just not from getting killed by an enemy.
