Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro review: a worthy upgrade?
The original Infant Optics DXR-8 is one of the most popular baby monitors ever. It's also one of our least favorite. But, with the release of the new "Pro" version in 2020, there are some serious upgrades. But, are they enough to make us change our mind about this baby monitor company?
Watch our Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro review to find out.
We explore:
- The new 720p, 5 inch parent unit
- Active noise reduction
- How this compares to other non-wifi monitors like the Eufy Spaceview
- Range vs the original Infant Optics DXR-8

Thank you for having a very useful channel. Very direct and precise. Thank you!
Thank you for providing the update video! I’ve recently stumbled upon your channel as I’m doing more research as a Dad to be, and I’ve appreciated your reviews immensely! If you’ve considered reviewing the Vava monitor, I’d love to get your input on that as well, as that has been one of the three monitors we’ve been considering (my wife demands we get a non-wifi monitor 😭). Thanks again for the videos, and keep up the great work!

Hi Michael - thanks for the kind words! We don’t have any plans to review that one at the moment but we can definitely check it out.
The DXR-8 has some weird quirks but my camera's mic just stopped working partially. Apparently there's a design flaw that pulls on the mic cable when the camera rotates...I hope they've fixed this with the pro.
Hello! thanks for the video.. would you recommend this over the Eufy Spaceview PRO? Thanks!!
I love the Pro-8. Self contained and sets up easy as hell.
Would the nanit work across the room? Those smart ones appear to have this constant 60-66 inch from baby requirement… but… I want that em pulse device 20 feet away..
Broooo!! You actually RECOMMENDED something from Infant Optics. There's a glitch in the matrix. (For the record, I was pleasantly surprised too.)

I know, right?! And I didn’t think 2020 could get any weirder.
Can you hear the audio with the parent unit screen off?
What’s a good baby monitor that’s WiFi with a parent unit as well?

That's what I would like to find. I want to be able to check in on my baby on my phone but I don't want to not be able to use my phone anytime I want to monitor the baby.
I go to the desert a lot camp to the dunes. I need a non wifi one. Im getting this one
Could you confirm if the DX8 and the DX8-pro can be used together? I need a second camera, but thinking about a second monitor with noise cancelling

No they can’t be used together
"I think I look high... but I'm not" But you could be is what you're saying. 😂😂

No no. Just based on what I’ve seen from television shows and rated R movies...I was paranoid that one might misconstrue the way I looked as being high. Which I wasn’t. For the record.
What do you consider the best secure monitor that is secure and doesnt rely on a phone
@Fathercraft

Non Wi-Fi monitors don’t have security measures per se as they don’t connect to the internet. In order to hack one you’d have to be really close to the source and tune to the same frequency as the monitor. Some monitors will randomly switch between different frequencies (or channels - can’t remember the proper terminology) which makes it harder for someone to hack in.
Please please do a video on “split screen” monitors! expecting twins and finding a good split screen monitor to watch them both at the same time is a challenge

The only one I can think of off the top of my head that does that is the Lollipop, which we reviewed so check that video out if you want.

We're in the same boat. We've been looking at the Eufy, the original Infant Optics, and the Motorola MBP36XL (this one is split screen). We love that the Motorola one has split screen, but the other two are such better reviewed. Now that the Infant Optics Pro is in the mix, I think that's what we're going to go with, along with a 2nd camera--the parent monitor does automatically shuffle between the 2 cameras every 12 seconds or so (or you can manually switch).
Why is eufy better? Could you be specific?
Mines stopped connecting a week after we opened it. Went through the replacement and thr second one did the exact samething. In IMO its trash.
the original infant optics was terrible. does it use the same batteries as the original? im glad they have a new charging system. another question is, can i use the old cameras with the new monitor?
@Fathercraft

The batteries are for the pro only work with the pro version. Also - you cannot connect the old camera with the new monitor.

@@Fathercraft not connecting the old cameras is a deal breaker for me. But, they will be pushed by amazon like the last model and people will buy thousands of them.
I need episode of baby walker

Can you please let us know which one is best
Ours dies as soon as we unplug it. It’s brand new out the box
That's your own fault if you don't like the monitor and keep using it...
Can we just talk about how effing bright the screen and charging lights are on this thing?! AWFUL. We have electrical tape over it...
This infant optics is a garbage baby monitor. Stop lying with your sponsored video

Oh man I wish it was sponsored (it isn’t). Regardless, thank you for your insightful comment.
