Ineos Grenadier Review | Better Than A Defender?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today on Buckle Up we finally got to drive the INEOS Grenadier on the road!
Up against rivals such as the Land Rover Defender, Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco, Toyota 4runner, Mercedes Benz G-class, Rivian R1T and Suzuki Jimny, INEOS plans to make its mark in the off road lifestyle space, whilst also offering a healthy dollop of utilitarian practicality and off-road prowess!

Thanks Guys - that was probably the review most reflective of Grandier ownership that I have seen (I've owned mine since early May). The Grenadier not perfect in every single way, but then show me a car that is. It is very good where it matters and some of the hysteria created by some reviewers is just laughable.

Exactly right on the steering. It’s precise but a little slow. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you probably turn the wheel more than necessary because it hasn’t responded as soon as you are used to from rack and pinion cars. It follows that this then leads to see sawing back and forth and the resulting criticisms. I guess the concerning thing is that so many other “reviewers” don’t know what they’re doing…

The other point about the price is that, like you pointed out, the vehicle is built to last. So yes, that does mean if you bought one now you would recoup that value over it's lifespan but it also means they're potentially going to be really interesting purchases on the second-hand car market in a few years. How much will they depreciate? How much longer will a second-hand Grenadier keep going compared to other second-hand vehicles? You may find you're able to pick a good example of one up second-hand for a decent price and it will still have years of life left in it

VW may have earned the right to charge a lot for some of their products, but some of their recent interior-quality cost cutting has not worked in their favour. Yes, INEOS automotive is a start up, but the quality of the product that they have produced and the engineering choices and design behind all the components they have chosen does in fact justify the price they are charging. Capability costs money, after all.

Well, maybe you would. Who knows? Also worth pointing out its illegal to take payment for a product placement without tagging the video as an ad in the UK and we don't fancy going to jail anytime soon. Perhaps you have an inherent bias given you seem to drive a VW product, and as you're a law abiding citizen, we're sure you've told your insurance company about the slight back box mod on what you describe as a completely stock car.

lol the killer for me is the price even as a business it’s too expensive especially as a 0 debt business, maybe I’m odd that I try to have little finance. I’m sure it’s grate and the 4x4 capabilities and ruggedness would be perfect for me and my business. But it’s more expensive than a New Defender which is too expensive. And you can pick up lots of decent pick ups and other 4x4s including, it also would be cheaper to buy a old defender and refurbish it to my exact needs and wants and still would be cheaper than buying ever the new defender or the grenadear. Mad. Sadly the big buyers of this will be some organisations and wealthy enthusiasts. Maybe in years to come it may become an option to consider on the second hand market.

We were sent the embargoed technical specs long before they were made public. But you're right, the vehicle that can only go 190 miles and tows a ton less is definitely the serious work horse. The one massive space to better the INEOS is kerb weight cause it's a porker, but because the Munro is an EV it weighs almost the same. Also, to be in the same league you probably need to have loftier goals than making 229 vehicles by the end of 2025.

As Americans are known for their reticent statecraft and diplomacy, allow me to attempt some reconciliation between the British hipster doofuses (doofi) and the indignant Aussie overlanders. Firstly, let’s all agree the pants were too tight - most viewers are now in therapy from that traumatic visual. Secondly, this is not a vehicle created either for the postapocalyptic nuclear winter Mad Max scenario that makes most Aussies think their off-road vehicles need to come with treads off an M1 Abrams and a guy chained to the front with an electric guitar, or for commercial scenarios that require a Ford F350 Super Duty. I had a chance to drive a prototype last year on a mid grade off-road course in the US. I think this review is pretty much spot on, the pants notwithstanding. As for the steering, it’s fine. Everyone needs to chill. It works great for off road, not a problem on pavement. “Learning curve” is 15 seconds if you’re not an idiot. The bracket in the footwell - kinda odd, but I just used it for a relaxed cruising prop on flats and it kind of gave me some support on the steeps. Don’t know what I would think on a cross country run. For the 95% of us who want something durable and comfortable, tooling around a farm or out camping, for sportsmen off track to go shoot themselves in the foot or hook their thumb on a dry fly, this is the perfect vehicle, especially if you’re also using it as a daily driver. Nothing else like it. Leave the hybrids and the air suspension behind, don’t worry about whether you can crawl the vertical face of Half Dome, and just enjoy life (for $86K) with one less kidney.

If you listen closely I end the list of Land Rover products by saying "that's the land rover bunch" and then we start listing the body on frame rivals, there's an implied full stop between them. The Ranger and Amarok are badge engineered and yes you're right the dash moulding is broadly similar for both vehicles, the engines and gearboxes are identical. However VW have done a lot of work to suspension and their truck actually has a different rear track width to the ranger so each has its own driving characteristics. Also every panel bar the roof is different between the two. I have driven both and can tell you they do not drive the same.
