The video is very long but it covers basically everything you would need to know about farming in Rust. Some stuff isn't covered but that's because other people have already made much better videos on it, which you can find below.
I originally wanted to get this done in early June, but here it is at the end of June. The original Mega Farm was built on Rust Moose Monthly around May 16th. I originally wasn't going to make this video as it was going to be out very late, but I haven't seen any video cover how to make a farm of this scale.
I was dumb enough to only take one picture, here is what original farming complex for the Mega Farm looked like: i.imgur.com/0VWW59G.jpg
I wanted to add in a bit of information that was cut from the video. This obviously has the ability to break the game, but in order to consistently trade in cloth, you need reliable transportation. Now that cars and ability to buy mini copters are coming, that will no longer be a problem. If decided to go through and make bandit a safe zone, this will be the new meta. Forget Launch Site, Oil Rig, and Cargo, go farming instead.
On smaller, less contested servers, I see the existence of the Mega Farm as extremely problematic, as you basically get creative mode materials to build or raid whatever you want. Meaning that larger servers will be the only servers that are balanced until this gets removed. Since the main limiting factor originally was the RnD needed to figure out the meta, but stuff like this gets more popular and refined, it will be as important as knowing how to build a base.

I got far enough in that program I mentioned for a v1.0 release. There still more I want to add on to it, but for right now it's functional. Download: github.com/SirJeremy/RustCrossbreedCalculator/releases GitHub: github.com/SirJeremy/RustCrossbreedCalculator Edit: I heard that they buffed the water pumps on staging. Unless the server I was testing on messed with the numbers, they buffed it from 150ml/m to 510ml/m. Which would mean that 1 pump would be enough for 11.3 planters. If you were to purify it, it would be enough for 5.6 planters. For that system, you would only need 1 pump per purifier, and 5 sprinklers per purifier. That would also mean you would not need fluid combiners. I expect this to be toned down before wipe, since that would make farming completely bonkers, as setting up the pump stations was the most time consuming part of the process.

the upgrade to sheet metal for the base is getting more and more essential, I have been using hemp farms for about 3 months now, the first month, i got raided on the last day of wipe, now i seem to get raided much more often if i leave the base stone, the introduction of cars and the tankers on cars has made you being able to build a small (smaller than the one in the video) farm pretty much anywhere, I love the versatility these cars have added to the farming overall

I did some quick testing, and while this does work, the range of the lights is much lower on the second floor. The 1 light per 2 planters doesn't seem to fully cover the planters on the floor below. However, a 3 lights per 4 planters does work. Which is more efficient than 4 lights for 9 planters, if the 3 per 4 through to the next floor, which would make it 3 per 8. While testing it also found out that planters can be put on half levels, which gives me some ideas, the only issue being that you can't access the plants in the back

Some stuff that is missing: - Water sprinklers also sprinkle the plants in the floor above, only every second floor (ground floor) needs them, less running required - A double timer setup can make the sprinklers turn on/off in a ratio to perfectly match the plants needs, the water setup with insufficiently supported sprinklers as shown in the video is not sustainable, as some planters will dry out while others will be at 9k all the time due to uneven watering by sprinklers when insufficient water is used for them which would either reduce yield as you would harvest some plants that aren't ripe yet or extend the growing time if you were to wait for these - Lights also give light to the floor below, so a farm should always have 2 floors - The amount of clicking and pressing buttons needed for taking clones, harvest and seeding makes your fingers hurt - The entire idea requires so much initial time to be spent, that it is not worth it in the end (and after 3 days of doing this, you just want to quit Rust) - A farm must have external TCs for building priv when it gets raided due to the massive time investment at risk of a 2 C4 raid - Turning these numbers of scrap into HQM at bandit takes so long, you'll sit there for more than 4h a day, many other options are similarly unrealistic to actually utilize - With how tedious the act of planting, cloning and harvesting is, it is not about cloth per hour at all, it is about cloth per click. 6Y is the best option you have there, requiring the least activity from you for the most cloth all these points are from the wipe when the corn/cloth/fertilizer trader was first introduced, things might have changed by now.

  • @Radaa5

    @Radaa5

    3 жыл бұрын

I am aware of the improvements and am working on update that will use them, like lights going through floors. I agree that 6Y is probably the best and will include that in the video. The sprinklers going through floors has been fixed. The timer system in unnecessary. The whole reason to even control the water time of plants is if you need to stockpile water because you don't produce enough of it, or to get optimal water levels, which is pointless until they make it more harmful to overwater plants. The reason why some planters will dry out is because of the water bug or sprinkler efficiency, which I will probably make a seperate video about. As far as it not being that secure goes, I have to agree, but I always assume people will add or change thing to make it more secure. You should never just make a carbon copy of a base you see off youtube. In my group, they would always send me to scout raid targets because I could usually recognize the base from youtube, and then I could rebuild it in fortify to get a better picture of the interior layout to figure out where their loot is. The main thing with farming is that its alternative way to gather resources. Towards the end of a monthly wipe, my group gets kinda lazy, so we always used scrap as an alternative to farming for paying the rent on the base. The biggest issue trying to get the 100-200hmq a day needed. It's all depends on how your group plays. Most PVP chads get bored by the 2nd week and jump to a fresh wipe server

@@Radaa5 I'm looking forwards to the mechanics behind the uneven watering bug. At least back then, unfertilised plants would grow slower when they were overwatered. Ofc. one could just overwater them and not care, yet that's equal to downsizing your farm a little as it will produce less per time (it was quite significant). For the security, consider tiny external TC bunkers with foundations leading towards the farm, so they overlap. It's not about the TC placement within the farm. The farm is so big that properly defending a TC inside it would become costly on upkeep quickly, by room spam as much as by building a core.

Its so cool watching this, we've been going down such a similar path. After my guide i kept building larger and larger farming compounds as i learnt more. The last one i made had one pump station, same dimensions as yours but my wiring was a fucking mess compared to yours 😂. Rather than one 4 story mega farm i built 2 4x4 ones to make griefing harder. I made the same conclusions about the genes because cloning on a massive scale is super frustrating, i wish there was a way to change the default use option so you could spam click e to clone. The way id sell it is i ran at night with nightvision, its the by far safest option if youre somewhat close to bandit. Anyways, its very humbling to see how well youve done everything! I ended up burning out super hard from hempfarming 10+ hours a day for a month straight. Theres two projects i really wanted to do but never did before i burned out. One simple and the other is very very big. If you have the energy to do more projects i can write out the ideas and PM them to you 😛

The way sprinklers work is different from what the video suggests. Each sprinkler takes 120ml/min from their water source, but then they magic up an extra 50% water out of thin air (10ml/5sec in, 15ml/5sec out), then this 15ml is divided by the number of planter boxes that can be reached, then the number is floored (rounded down to nearest integer). For most efficient water distribution, make sure the number if planterboxes that can be reached by the sprinkler is a factor of 15 ie 3 or 5 (5 sounds awkward, I just go with 3, means 1ml/s or 5ml/5s, 60ml/m).

Just saying, the water pump output has been increased with the August 6th update. According to rust labs, it is now 510 ml of freshwater a minute, but I am unsure if this is correct as it has only come out recently. This means that one generator has the ability to give enough water for 4 sprinklers to use, maybe more. Edit: Depending on the server, a pump can give either 425 ml of water or 510 ml of water per minute. I tried on two different servers, one with higher pop and ping, and one with lower pop and ping, and seemed to have gotten more water on the server with less pop and ping, however, I do not know if this is related to using a timer in the testing or if it is the pumps in general. I did multiple experiments on both servers and results were consistent with the higher ping and pop server always collecting less water than the one with lower ping and power pop.

i strongly believe the farming meta is heavily sat on or brushed aside, even in the version for today 02/06/2022. early game you can open air farm corn to make scrap and eat. at bandit and outpost you can essentially buy and recycle to any component or material you need. i like farming so ill join a trio max server and farm for 5 days, then my mates will join and well go raiding with nearly four boxs of rockets

If you make multiple smaller buildings, upkeep is a lot less. We're currently running a 53 plot farm with the farm split into two buildings, 3x3x3 each, and a 4x4x2 in a river that houses our batteries, pumps, and electrical stuff. Cables are carefully hidden under the ground through sneaky placement coming off the building to the other two. We only have to fill tc with one stack metal and rest stone every 5 days.

If you want to do the circuit for watering for each floor, hook the timer circuit output to a transmitter then that will broadcast the toggle. Then you hook the sprinklers to a receiver-based circuit. That way you only need to do the circuit once and don't need a lot of other stuff. Have you considered buying pickles for compost or other ways to get compost?

don't. I did this right when the cloth/fertiliser trader got introduced since i enjoyed figuring and optimising the system for myself, and the act of placing new plants and taking clones makes your fingers hurt after a while, it's absolute horror - plus horse shit to fertiliser was a way better option, so i stopped with the cloth (2 story 6x6). The amount of time that it takes to set up the electicity for the optimal watering (you will have to do a timer setup to water the plants at exactly the ratio at which they use up the water, automatically turning on and off the sprinklers), the amount of HQM this electicity setup takes up and all the planter which need to first be bought from bandit are such a large time investment, that at least for a solo playing 24/7 it takes 2 days to set this up. Even with proper base design and TC coverage with external TCs, every raider can grief you for an entire day of work by just destroying your electicity stuff and planters. All these numbers look good, but this selling Cloth is nothing against the old fertilizer sale and will change your gameplay in a drasitc way which makes your fingers hurt from constant clicking (until facepunch introduces a seed bag and scythe and sickle for harvesting and taking cuttings by just holding LMB).

You can only trade so much cloth at once at bandit camp though, there’s a limit so there’s no point in having such a massive cloth farm, official servers and most community servers have things as normal not unlimmited trading, so where you can trade the cloth in unlimmited wise it may take me a hour or 2 to trade 10,000-20,000 cloth because I have to trade every minute and wait for the cloth to reset so I can keep trading and waiting and trading.

Through experiments the Blueprints for one player cost: T1:83*75:6225 + T2:65*300:19500 + T3:18*1000:18000 + researchables : 4000 = altogether 47725 Scrap. If the person finds every single item and researches them with the research table (thus losing the items), it would still cost probably 25000 Scrap to get everything.
