As someone who has run a farm this is not the whole picture. There are times when I have had to destroy an entire batch of crops because the retailers like Beleaf wouldn't purchase from us because the demand was less during certain times. It's only farmers who are left bearing the costs when prices go down or when crops fail. None of these organisations will actually help farmers plan for these situations.

If Indonesia with all it's arable fertile land is still struggling, you can just imagine how worse it is here in the Philippines. And that's not including the annual losses from the typhoons.

You didn't highlight the real issue.. the struggle is on how to digitalize agriculture effectively with the real time data, building reliable mechanism between farmers, distributors, land owner, partnerships, government support on agriculture ecosystem, building their own fertilizers not depending imports. Those are the struggles, with proper digitalization you can minimize any natural disasters you u have, so stop making excuse. But the problem is the PH gov have no long term plan on how to digitalize their agrciculture

Not really its actually showed how Indonesia managed to diversify from oil based economy to diverse economy. Indonesia oil reserve is small to begin with, relative to other opec members, and it shows how a country should diversify before its single resource ran out. Something can't be said about Brunei or gulf economies. At least Saudi are trying now.

Singapore have zero food security then.

Food self sufficiency is a scam, if we grew staples instead of cash crops we could easily accomplish it. But of course we grow cash crops which is good economically. Indonesia enjoys good relations with aus, nz, south america which have large surplus of food. let them produce it efficiently and we can let indonesian farmers grow whats best for their condition

Other than climate crisis the land rules also not really friendly to farmers Like, everything is expensive people sometimes sell their rice field just so their children can go to university But after graduation the price of land is really pricey, rent too, moreover if there's mining or more bigger industry farmers marginalized More over technological application sometimes hardly thrive because our government accountability is very dubious, we hope our corruption gone, all the government apparatus trustworthy (all the people too), our communication/bureaucracy is getting more effective and easier between every shareholders (like I already talk many times through many routes about how fertilizer damaging our nature but still no speed improvement the budget for fertility subsidy in my Professor's public lecture he explain should be directed to a higher purchase price but still no good news till today) It's a myth that youth doesn't want to go to agricultural sector but we're really deprived of supports . During past time indonesia government manage to have surplus in agriculture sector. But nowadays under jokowi agriculture sector is innbad shape as oligarch prefer importing food which beneficial to handfull of importir which many believe the fee for corrupt official is huge. rather than caring for locals farmer to grow and indonesia have self suficiency in food

From the majapahit ancient era even from primitive plestosen era , Indonesian people take rice and tempe for their primary food, but the funny fact is untill now there is no food self sufficiency for those item..cannot control the minimum stock, canot control the maximum price .. the fact , those item imported from smaller agriculture country land like cambodia, vietnam, thai even japan !!..tempe soy bean imported from US !! i dont know wether there is anny research by dept.of agricultural , anny research from university related to reach this food self sufficiency???..what are they doing ????, i dont know ..
