Indo-European Homeland: The Revival of the Armenian Hypothesis

Because of recent developments in linguistics and especially archeaogenetics there has been a renewed interest in the Armenian Hypothesis. More and more credible evidence emerges suggesting that the first Indo-European language was spoken on the Armenian Plateau and spread east, west and north as people migrated from this central region.
In this video I will provide an overview of the Armenian hypotheses and discuss several recent studies that have undoubtedly increased its plausibility.

PeopleofAr - I think you need to further study this topic before you make these claims as it has been debunked long time ago. Aryan migration theory is one where old colonial powers devised this theory to divide and conquer INDIA. SANSKRITH and Ancient TAMIL languages are mother of all european languages which come from INDIA. There is nothing that come from central asia or Armenia in terms of languages and people's as new DNA and linguistics study shows where it is quite the opposite.

Ylli hyri/ylli hyni=ILLYRIANS REAL DORIANS/EPIRIOTES REAL HELLENES The Greek philosopher Aristotle names ancient Hellas as an area in Epirus between Dodona and the Achelous river, the location of the Great Deluge of Deucalion, a land occupied by the Selloi and the Epirotes who later came to be known as "Hellenes". In the Homeric tradition, the Selloi were the priests of Dodonian Zeus. Ptolemy calls Epirus Hellas primordial . Therefore, the probability that the Selloi were a tribe from Epirus, which later emigrated south to Thessaly and adopted the name of Hellenes as their own, may be valid. Panhellenes and Hellenes both appear only once in the Iliad; Homer refers to the "Hellenes" (/ˈhɛliːnz/) as a relatively small tribe settled in Thessalick Phthia, with its warriors under the command of Achilleus. It seems that Hellas (Eλλάς) was the land of the Hellenes, another name of the Myrmidons. Homer describes Achilles praying to Zeus Dodonian as the primeval god: "King Zeus, wept, lord of Dodona, god of the Pelasgians, who dwell far away, you who hold the agghiaciata Dodona under your influence, where your prophets the Selli dwell around to you with their unwashed feet and their clothes made of earth. " Aristotle argues that the Selli (Σελλοί), the priests of Dodona in Epirus, may have chosen their name, from Elle, another name of the Goddess. It also reports that an ancient cataclysm destroyed "ancient Hellas, between Dodona and the Acheloo River. ILLIRIANS WAS NORTH ALBANIA HELLENES TRIBES WERE ILLIRIANS EPIRIOTES AND THRACIAN Multiple artefacts from the Iron and Bronze Ages near tumulus burials have been unearthed in central and southern Albania, which has similar affinity with the sites in southwestern Macedonia and Lefkada. Archaeologists have come to the conclusion that these regions were inhabited from the middle of the third millennium BC by Indo-European people who spoke a Proto-Greek(Proto-Albanian) language. Hence, a part of this historical population later moved to Mycenae around 1600 BC and properly established the Mycenaean civilisation The Epirotes, who speak a Northwestern Greek dialect, different from the Doric of the Greek colonies on the Ionian islands, and bearers of mostly Greek names, as evidenced by the epigraphy, seem to have been looked upon with some contempt by some classical writers. The 5th century BC Athenian historian Thucydides describes them as "barbarians" in his History of the Peloponnesian War, as does Strabo in his Geography. Dorians did contribute to the culture of Greece in drama, poetry, sculpture, and especially in the huge stone buildings that marked the beginning of the Doric style of architecture. (The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th ed.) DORIANS WERE ILLYRIANS The awareness that the four tribal groups recognized as "Hellenic" (ions, Aeolians, Achaeans and Dorians) came from a still barbaric north, also had an influence on the northern peoples, inhabitants of Epirus and Macedonia. The Dorians themselves apparently were not Hellenic, but made Doro, their ancestor, a direct son of Hellenus, in order to be called brothers of their predecessors. In other legends Doro is instead Hellenic of the second generation, son, that is, of Xuto, the second son of Hellenus or another theory says that the Dorians were the sons of Heracles. They were diverse in way of life and social organization, varying from the populous trade center of the city of Corinth, known for its ornate style in art and architecture, to the isolationist, military state of Sparta. And yet, all Hellenes knew which localities were Dorian, and which were not. Dorian states at war could more likely, but not always, count on the assistance of other Dorian states. Dorians were distinguished by the Doric Greek dialect and by characteristic social and historical traditions. Édouard Will concludes that there was no true ethnic component in fifth-century Greek culture, in spite of anti-Dorian elements in Athenian propaganda. In modern scholarship, the term has often meant the location of the population disseminating the Doric Greek dialect within a hypothetical Proto-Greek(Albanian/illyrian) A minor, and perhaps regrettably forgotten, episode in the history of scholarship was the attempt to emphasize the etymology of Doron(Dor/Dora=Hand in Albanian) with the meaning of 'hand'. This in turn was connected to an interpretation of the famous lambda on Spartan shields, which was to rather stand for a hand with outstanding thumb than the initial letter of Lacedaimon. Dorian social structure was characterized by a communal social structure and separation of the sexes. The lives of "free men" centered around military campaigns. When not abroad, men stayed in all-male residences focusing on military training until the age of 30, regardless of marital status. Dorian women had greater freedom and economic power than women of other Greek ethnicities. Unlike other Hellenic women, Dorian women were able to own property, manage their husbands' estate, and delegate many domestic tasks to slaves. Women in ancient Sparta possessed the greatest agency and economic power, likely due to the prolonged absences of men during military campaigns. ILLYRIANS HELLENS AND THRACIANS ARE INDOEUROPEAN(ARIANS)WARIORS RULED BY THE THUNDER GOD THOR/ZEUS/INDRA/TESHUB(PERKUN in the Albanian language it means to shake and here the Indo-European peoples had a god of lightning who was called in Lithuanian Perkūnas; in Latvian: Pērkons; in Prussian: Perkūns or Perkunos; in Jatvitic: Parkuns and the Slavs adopted phonetics and called it Perun.) @@Judge_Magister The Basques have 600 Armenian words in their language via the ancient indigenous Hurrians of Asia Minor who originally were not Indo European. The Armenians are an amalgamation of 7 tribes of which two of them were not Indo European. This happened many thousands of years ago. The beginning of these people started 10,000 years ago. At least that's what I learnt in the ancient history books where the West have no clue of their early settlers. For example the early settlers of Devon England were Armenians who arrived in search of ore on the Dartmoor area and they settled in Armenton (today's Ermington) on Arme river which today people call it the Erme. This was recorded by the Saxon monks in 1100 - The Anglo-Saxon Chronicles says that the Britons who inhabited the Land before the Anglo-Saxon Invasion came from Armenia.

I'm an Iranian :) Sending love to all of my cousins & brothers & sisters all around the world who are my kin ;)) Interestingly enough some evidences & proofs including a cave were recently found in Iran where there are pictures & paintings of Animals, Humans, & human soldiers in armors with weapons who were being led by a commander/king on chariot ! ( *the paintings & pictures are estimated to be 9000 years old !!! & indicate to the existence of a major civilization in Iran, possibly an empire, which even predates the Median empire of Iran which was thought by most to be the first empire in Iran !!! Ofcourse neither the Median empire nor this older possible empire were worldwide superpowers like the Achaemenid empire of Iran in 600 B.C.E but still even the existence of an advanced civilization 9000 years ago is mindblowing* ) Also the zagros mountains of Iran & the highlands of Armenia have always been a perfect barrier to stop the invading forces from affecting the people who were settling in the south of the caucuses, & south of the Caspian sea in north of Iran ! ( *so that's probably why the gene pool of the Iranians & the Armenians are mostly intact* ) Although it's still a mystery to me where are we as Indo-Europeans ourselves are originated from ? ( *I mean, we did not just pop up in North of Iran & Armenia out of nowhere ! Right* ? ) Is it possible that the proto-Indo-Europeans themselves migrated to the north of Iran & Armenia through the Iranian plateau & Mesopotamia & Egypt from Ethiopia where it is considered to be the original place where the human population as a whole race (branching into Indo-Europeans, Altaics & Semetics & etc.) began to travel & migrate ??? *because the proto-Indo-European hypothesis itself must be somehow connected to the whole human race evolution & migration hypothesis which states that the human race originally started to evolve & migrate in Africa* These are extremely interesting aren't they ? Knowing your roots is always fascinating !

@06:00 Noah's Ark is said to have to come to rest on the Mountains of Ararat. Although technically located within modern Turkey, I think the Ararat Mountain Range is closer to what is now the Caucasus and modern Armenia and it is said that Noah's son, Japheth and his descendants, the Japhethites, settled and eventually spread out from the Caucasus Region while his brothers Shem and Ham went on to populate the regions that correspond to what is now the Middle East and north & east Africa respectfully.

I don’t think it was the fact PIE had elements of Uralic in it, but I think Uralic and Indo Europeans came from the same source. Research the Indo Uralic and the eurasiatic language theory, it really sheds light on the language continuity hypothesis as I believe that Ancient North eurasians fathered the proto Indo European, Uralic and Altaic languages. Proto Indo European and Uralic are the closest related as they both can be traced back to the steppe and western Siberia areas and they also derive from genetic peoples who directly descended from the ancient north eurasians.

Certainly, the people of 5,000 years ago had boats, right? I find this theory very convincing. It has been known for a long time, that the Yamnaya are a mixture of Caucasian and Eastern European Hunter Gatherers. The big question is, what languages they all spoke. My guess is, PIE is actually some varient or perhaps a mixture of a N-Caucasian language, very distantly related to Chechen.

This is objectively untrue. Souther Caucasian admixture in Yamnaya populations is extreme minority to negligible: *"In addition, the Maykop (and other contemporary Caucasus samples), along with CHG, had significant Anatolian Farmer ancestry "which had spread into the Caucasus from the west after about 5000 BC", but is little detected in the Yamnaya. Partly for these reasons, Anthony concludes that Bronze Age Caucasus groups such as the Maykop "played only a minor role, if any, in the formation of Yamnaya ancestry." According to Anthony, this, the absence of evidence of significant admixture (including of paternal genetic influence, often associated with language shift) from the south on the Yamnaya suggests that the roots of Proto-Indo-European (archaic or proto-proto-Indo-European) were mainly in the steppe rather than the south."* - _Dispersals and Diversification: Linguistic and Archaeological Perspectives on the Early Stages of Indo-European_ | ISBN 9789004416192

Those lineages themselves come from the eastern eurasian hunter-gatherer populations. Tl;dr : the steppe is the ultimate origin

Many PIE origin hypothesis seem to ignore the impact of changes in climate during this period and the corresponding changes in vegetation and animals. The end of the ice age and the expansion of isolated populations from some refuges could bring a new light on the movement of groups. Remember that the oldest animal husbandry was with reindeer. The conversion to cattle, sheep and horses would have been natural with the changing ecology.

Sorry, but there are many factual errors here. The Yamnayans did not have Armenian-like genetics. They had the type of CHG admixture that was dominant among the Neolithic farmers of Central Zagros. The ancestral component sometimes known as "Gedrosia" due to it's peak in modern Baloch and Brahuis. Modern Armenians score relatively small levels of this compared to other West Asians, and also compared to the Iron Age Armenians of the Yerevan area. The DNA and geography indicate that the Transcaucasus DNA of the Steppe pastoralists came from North Iran rather than the Armenian plateau. There was large-scale Bronze Age migration from the Steppe into South Caucasus. The Bronze and Iron Age samples from Armenia and Urmia region have a very large Steppe admixture that did not exist in older samples. The dominant languages of the Van and Urmia lakes were Hurro-Urartian rather than Indo-European until the arrival of Armenian and Indo-Iranian languages.

Robert E. Howard was a prolific American fantasy fiction writer of the 1930's. He was an avid ancient history buff and incorporated much of what he read into his "pre-deluvian" sword and sorcery yarns aimed at the teenage boy pulp market of that day. He may have been aware of the Armenian Hypothesis put forth by the earlier of the two scholars you mentioned or he just figured it out on his own. Either way, his Conan the Barbarian was a Cimmerian warlord. Cimmerian is the latin pronunciation of the Greek Kimeroi. Kimer is the Greek cognate of the biblical Hebrew "Gomer and all his bands" who came down from the north and pastured their herds on the grain fields of Phrygia, one of whose kings, Croesus, had the golden touch. The Assyrians eventually pulled it together and ran the Cimmerians across the Dardanelles where Celtic chieftans in the Balkans welcomed them and their large bottle shaped stone furnaces capable of smelting iron ore. This may have initiated the LaTene phase of Celtic culture. Howard's Conan character was a pastiche of many warrior adventures such as Gilgamesh, Cuhulain, Hercules etc. The Sumerian Gilgamesh was a blue eyed foreigner from the northern mountains. Sounds Armenian to me. Well, obviously, your video has stirred up a lot of old memories. (All of which are in desperate need of vigorous fact checking.) I hope the Armenian Hypothesis prevails and consider my sword and shield at your service! I also hope the Armenian people prevail in these perilous times. Hang in there. It ain't over yet.
