INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY - SANTA FE NEW MEXICO PLAZA 2021 - Serpent Tail Dance Group - Ohkay Owingeh - Comanche Dance
For Indigenous Peoples Every Day is Indigenous - You are standing on Indigenous Land is the 2021 theme.
The Commemoration of INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY at the Santa Fe Plaza was a two day affair celebrating last year’s removal of the Obelisk at the center of the plaza and offering healing for the community through traditional dances, songs, drumming and prayers for the community.
The symbol of Colonial Rule over the ancestral Tewa lands represented by the Obelisk erected 1866 to commemorate the Colonial rule of Spain and victory of Kit Carson over the “Savage Indians” came down one year ago.
Tewa (Pueblo) Indian memories are loooooong , and it took 154 years to assert the Sovereignty of Indian lands by brave warriors of today’s generation.
The generational trauma of the colonial mind set must be healed for this land to be healed.
The 2020 Indigenous Peoples Day, brought down a symbol of Colonial Rule erected in the Santa Fe Plaza
