As a Colts fan, my favorite game ever. A couple of things that struck me watching this: 1) Manning was so unbelievably accurate on some of these throws 2) I miss Dallas Clark, that dude was a beast 3) I still got nervous at the end, especially when Reggie Wayne almost fumbles

(Nick Harper, who got stappwd in the thigh by his GF the night before the game, recovered a Jerome Bettis fumble (oat the goal line on what looked to be a game sealing td, and appeared to be headed toward the end zone, but Big Ben made just enough of a play to get him to the ground, and then Vanderjagt missed the game winning field goal) And the 2009 Colts who lost to NO in the SB . Were better than both (14-0 before Caldwell benched Manning and key starters in the final 2 games)

I don't have too many memories of beating New England but I'll always have this one. What a game..

I'm not even a Colts fan but I always cheered for Manning...Being that I was young and watched him seince his college day I felt a certain attachment to him and to finally see him get over the hump was special almost emotional reflecting on the highlights now....

I’m a colts fan, I remember this game live. At halftime it seemed that once again Brady would get the best of manning. That comeback was one of the best memories of my childhood. Man I miss seeing an elite QB leading our team

Manning and Brady played against each other 4 times in AFC Championship Games. Manning won 3 of 4. Head to head, on the grandest stage possible, Manning was the GOAT.

Helluva game! Loved the ending, with Tom Terrific getting intercepted! He was so cocky. The bastard thought his Pats were invincible. Loved it even more when Giants ruined his perfect season.

That' s one of the reasons I always liked the conference championship games more than SB. There are great SB games no doubt, but the AFC and NFC finals are special because of the many devision rivalries.

Wow I forgot about a couple of things. That throw to Marvin Harrison on the 2 point conversion was perfect. I also forgot that Freeney was the one that forced Brady to throw the interception at the end. My all time favorite Colts game.

This was one of the first big, “instant classic” football games that I watched. Will always remember it. For sure more memorable than the Super Bowl ended up being that year.

Don't get me wrong I think its bs to blame just Manning for those losses. But honestly, the label only died for two years. It came right back after Tracy Porter's pic six in the SB against NO. I wish Manning would have had a big WR to complement Wayne or Harrison. Indy's smaller WRs got pushed around too much in the post season. And manning was a statue in the pocket. If they weren't where he wanted the ball to go originally, he wasn't the type to buy time

Were those 9 one and dones the result of Manning and his WRs dragging a bad team through a weak AFC South to the post season where they were exposed to actual competition? Or was it that Manning's legendary preparation was everyone else's playoff mode and once everyone jumped into the playbook like he did, he had no extra advantage athletically or otherwise? Though he's still my favorite QB, I have definitely come to realize as I age, that he is on a short list but there were better QBs. Though indy was a perrineal 6-10, 4-12 team before Manning arrived, a regular 12-4/13-3 with him, and now they seem headed back to the "getting a wildcard is a great year" kind of team. I was at this game and was angry for like 75% of it lol. What a comeback. I go to maybe one game a year and was lucky enough to go to the 45-44 wild card game in 2013 vs. the Chiefs and unlucky enough to be at the Browns game this past season with those two horrible calls at the end.

I remember questioning whether it’d ever happen at this point. I mean it’s 21-3, he had 1 TD to 6 INTs in the playoffs to that point & the defense/run game had really saved him the 1st 2 games. I think all that plus his many playoff struggles the 8 prior seasons is what made the comeback that much more amazing.

Marlon Jackson made the first tackle in the game, he also made the last play of the game with the interception

So many years of frustration in my my city. First we lose Wayne Gretzky and the Racers to a tax cheat from Canada that sold the team to pay his lawyers. Then the Pacers finally make it to the NBA Finals only to meet up against Shaq and Kobe in their prime and lose in 6. Plus the malice in the palace disaster. And then the Colts get stopped time and time again by Tom Brady and The Patriots. It felt like Indianapolis would never win a championship in any sport. Until 2006.

This was our Super Bowl. I’ll never forget January 21, 2007. Never ever. Nothing can top this. (Not even November 2, 2016 in Cleveland)

If we’re talking about talent, Peyton Manning is the best QB of all time and it’s not close. The only argument against him is his subpar legacy which would’ve been better if he hadn’t spent so many years, pretty much his entire prime, with a defense that was anywhere from subpar to all time bad.

6:11 - the Colts "make the wrong move at the right time" - going for 2 to tie in that spot was risky because if they don't convert it changes the trajectory of the game. And the play wasn't good - it probably had about a 10% chance of success but one HOFer to another HOFer made it work and it was game on from there to the end.

If I was a colts fan in the RCA dome when Jackson got the pick I would have been sobbing. Had to feel so sweet for Indy.

What an absolute SQUAD. We earned it for sure that year. #BLEEDBLUE

As a die hard Colts fan I would like to thank Brady for one thing and one thing only, going to San Diego and upsetting the Chargers thereby bringing the AFC championship to our dome! I can objectively say that the Chargers were the best team in the league that year and there was no way we would have beaten them in their stadium.

My biggest memory from this game was late in the game the camera showed Brady on the sideline and he looked so furious. I remember nothing else from this game other than the Colts came back from a big deficit.

This was the turning point of manning's career and his magnum opus

Even though I was Colts fan, I didn't see that game. I was at the interment of my dad at a veteran's cemetery. I rejoiced later at the defeat of the NE Patriots.

This game was insane & I'm from Indianapolis IN. I'M GLAD PAYTON NOT ONLY BEAT TOM BRADY BUT WON US A CHAMPIONSHIP THANK YOU PAYTON MANNING.

Peyton was something else during his prime. Brady obviously is the greatest of all time, but I enjoyed watching Manning more, for whatever reason.

Tom Brady carried a team with no wide receivers to the AFC Championship. He was awesome that year given how little he had around him. I mean, he turned Reche Caldwell into a #1 WR, a guy who never broke 400 yards in any other season he played.

What was frustrating to watch about the difference between the teams these two were surrounded with (including the coaches): Brady has a massive pocket around him at all times, and never has to waver from standing straight up with feet planted. When he throws, his receivers are somehow always WIDE open with endless green around them on the screen. Manning has less than 1.2 seconds before defenders are in his backfield, and has to throw incredible passes into tight spaces to move the ball, but he somehow does it. Peyton was the best QB, period. Rings are about the entire franchise being great (or cheating, if you're in New England). Manning has had multiple GM's and a revolving door of head coaches who made questionable decisions in the biggest moments, bad offensive lines, porous defenses, receivers who prove to be mediocre when they go anywhere else, and lousy run games after Edgerrin James. In the post-season, where he inappropriately gets far too much criticism, he watched as Caldwell called a timeout to give the Chargers a win, Austin Collie drop a 3rd and 5 so they had to settle for a field goal, Pierre Garcon drop a wide open pass that puts them up 17-3 at half against the Saints if it's caught, Gijon Robinson run the wrong route on 4th down, defenses that stay on the field for 40 minutes in a game, special teams that give up 168 yards to returners, scores 35 plus in a January game but watches it not be enough somehow, the highest percentage FG kicker in history to that point in Van Der Jagt miss a 29-yarder against Pittsburgh, and Rahim Moore surrenders a 77 yard touchdown against a team that had no timeouts with seconds to go. Yet he catches flak for an INT he never should have been in a position to force, and for his offensive line simply being overmatched by Seattle. No one remembers that he's 3-1 against Brady in AFC Championship games, put up the only 500 yard post-season offensive performance against a Belichick defense, and led perhaps the greatest comeback in AFCCG history (2006). He wasn't a different guy from regular season to post-season; a team's weaknesses from top-to-bottom simply get plotted against. No more trying things out, bringing up guys from the practice squad, expanding the playbook, making trades, fighting for division position, saving player's health... The playoffs are all the best teams being ultra gamey against one another, and Peyton Manning was often on mediocre teams that he shouldered. Brady, on the other hand, was the beneficiary of a great franchise that also happened to fleece the entire league for the better part of 18 years.

They had the better defense at that point in the playoffs and had the far better offensive fire power as well as being at home. The fact that Brady almost won a shootout with his best WR being Jabar Gaffney speaks volumes. Of course the next year when Brady finally got some weapons as opposed to scrubs he set records. Brady was always better. Brady also saved Belichick's career. Check Belichicks record as a HC without Brady. He's trash. "He wasn't a different guy from regular season to post-season" - Actually he was. Go check the advanced stats. He was significantly worse in the playoffs. Manning was great but he is who he is. "Brady, on the other hand, was the beneficiary of a great franchise that also happened to fleece the entire league for the better part of 18 years." - Fleece the league in what way? Sure the Pats were a smart team but many of those Patriots teams weren't that talented and usually had mediocre skill position players. If Bill hadn't been a penny pincher they probably would've won a couple more titles.

They need to call this the Hump Game. It was all gravy for Mannings career after this game. Even tho we lost to the saints :(

People forget and correct me if I'm wrong that the colts played 3 top 10 defenses in the playoffs this post season run against the chiefs ravens and bears and two of those games were in rainstorm conditions against the ravens and bears. The only game against an evergae defense was this one. So when people bring up the sub par numbers you have to also take into account the caliber of defenses he was facing

Wow that’s a good analysis!! The year they won the SB happen to be my first year watching them and I was 9 years old! It was just the crazy plays Peyton and Marvin would make us what made me fall in love with football

Peyton Manning was the equalizer, hopefully Mahomes does it.. Brady has enough rings already

Our special teams play, particularly KR team, was always suspect back then, but this was as complete of a team as there ever was during the berth of the passing era. NE was very good too, but I truly feel this team and the year prior was so much better than any other NFL team. You can see glimpses of it during this game but Bill had a great game plan and was the difference for NE that made them so competitive. Player for player the Colts were a step ahead better. Easy to say in hindsight, but also in hindsight this game should not have been close. Colts should have ran away with it .... very talented team.

So true! Colts were the better team except for KR. The year before they were the best team in the NFL except for an idiot kicker. :)

Nice game

That 2pt throw to Harrison is so ridiculous both in throw and route adjustment. That play to the pylon is called over and over again. The DB had it read perfectly. Somehow both QB and WR understand to take it 5 yards deeper in the end zone with a little lob to split CB and S. You would never write that up because it's so ridiculous. But they did it and made it look easy.

It just amazes me. We were sooo close. Sooo close and we were a wild card team at that. And to think we 99% likely would’ve won the super bowl since we already beat the bears during the regular season of 2006 😔
