Fun fact. The name of the child actor in this movie is Ke Huy Quan. Ke Huy Quan took a 20 year hiatus from acting and did stunt choreography and an assistant director. He returned to acting to star in the film "Everything Everywhere, All at Once (which is a must see- if y'all haven't already)." Just recently (this year), he won awards for Best Supporting Actor in the film "Everything Everywhere, All at Once," including an Academy Award. Harrison Ford and Quan reunited, and Ford congratulated him on his win after Quan did his acceptance speech at the Oscars. So, Quan had a major successful comeback into acting as an adult. Thought that was interested and wanted to share it with y'all.😊

@@sarablack2547 Agreed, a carbon copy of the first heroine wouldn't have been as interesting or have contrasted enough to be its own movie. What I do notice is, even for how "delicate" Willie was, she went through all that, and still had very high spirits. She could get scared and scream...but she rarely cowered, stayed mostly alert, and often argued. One needs a strong stomach for that. And she was still a problem solver! It's easy to complain and then do nothing, but she would complain and then _try_ something...as with the elephant. 😂😂 I mean... perfume probably wasn't the solution I'd try myself...but it was at least _something_ ! 😛

While climbing up the fallen bridge, Indy pointed out that the evil priest had betrayed the God Shiva and Indy was basically invoking Her punishment upon the priest by speaking in their language. The magic stones responded to Indy. Short Round (the little kid) was played by Ke Huy Quan. He also played in "The Goonies" and more recently the movie "Everything, Everywhere, All At Once." Fun Fact: This movie was rated PG, but because of all the gruesome scenes, outraged parents demanded a better rating system. So PG-13 was created. By all means watch the next one.

Speaking of the violence and disturbing images in this movie, it came out in 1984 and it was only rated PG. There was a big furor about this. Gremlins also came out at the same time and there was a big furor about it as well because it was so violent. These two movies pretty much single-handedly resulted in the new PG-13 rating that came out just after these films were released.

Jonathan Ke-Quan (who plays Short Round) was also in The Goonies, the next year. That's another great film, which I'm sure you'll enjoy. It's basically where they got the inspiration for Stranger Things on Netflix (along with a bunch of other Spielberg films). Temple of Doom was my favourite Indy film as a child. I now love Raiders the most because it's just perfectly paced and started this entire genre ( as far as summer blockbuster movies) but this is a great sequel (prequel really because it's set in 1933). Anyway the third one, The Last Crusade is probably the favourite among Indy fans. Another great film from 1984 with a similar atmosphere to this film is Romancing The Stone. People at the time called it an Indy rip-off but the script was actually written before Raiders came out. To me, it's as good as this film and has a wonderful soundtrack. It's directed by Robert Zemeckis who also directed Back to the Future, Forrest Gump and other great movies. Check it out and as always, loved your reaction!

"How did he make the rocks catch fire?" My theory - Indy arrives in India through miraculous circumstances, falling from a plane, etc, before washing up near the village. The elder says that Shiva has sent them, hinting at some divine providence. In the finale, when Indy and Mola Ram struggle over his satchel, Indy invokes the name of Shiva and the stones burst into flame, burning Mola but not Indy, as Indy has Shiva's blessing (or is a temporary avatar of Shiva, a common thread in Hindu mythology). TL;DR Shiva sent Indy to save the village

Totally agree. While Temple is my 3rd favorite, it's NOT because it's flawed in any way - it's just that Raiders is the best adventure and Crusade is the most fun, this one, Temple, is the most realistic (even considering the dark cult aspect) - it's a human drama. I don't agree with most of the panning it gets, it's a great ride, gets the blood pumping (heart or not!)

The 2 biggest movies in my mind, and won a Youth Film Award in Indiana Jones, for his role as the sidekick Short Round. In the 90`s, he co-starred in a sitcom Head of the Class, over two seasons. He stopped acting to lack of opportunity in the late 1990s, when he received his film degree. He went on to work as a stunt coordinator.

The man being lowered into the lave was praying for Shiva, one of the main Hindu gods, to save him. The Thuggee were an actual cult. They were basically professional robbers and murderers. Also the origin of the word thug. One of the big things the movie gets wrong, besides the food, is that Kali is far from evil. While she is considered ferocious and terrifying, she was more of a protector whose ultimate purpose was to destroy evil.

George Lucas created 1 of the greatest characters ever in Indiana Jones and him with Spielberg working together on these Indiana Jones movies was the perfect dream partnership. Audiences when this was first released were not ready for this one cause it was definitely darker, especially after the first one Raiders of the Lost Ark. But getting past that initial reaction and some of the criticism it faced cause of it, (in turn even creating an extra film classification cinema certificate from the criticism), this has still become 1 of the most loved in the series especially just for the set piece action sequences which were just astounding back then what visually they created, and what even now all the decades later still looks just as awesome and a part of the magic of that period of 80's big scale movies.

There were several different versions of the script that was originally going to be in Raiders Of The Lost Ark: The opening scene was going to be filmed at The Great Wall Of China but this was scrapped due to China's policy. Another scene was going to be involved was The Mine Car Chase, which made it into Temple Of Doom. The opening car chase was going to be in Raiders. The plane crashing into the mountain was going to be in Raiders as well. Another Draft was going to have Indy finding dinosaurs in a Lost World type of valley.

The man in the cage that had his heart taken out is chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" which is a mantra in Hindu Shiva worship. Many Christians tend to do the same in times of great danger or fear by reciting Psalm 23 or the lords prayer (depending on the situation).

just a sidenote the Maharaja isn't a girl; it's a boy actor; but spielberg had a girl dub his voice and the kid in the small cage that talked to indy not to drink the blood etc.Indy was able to get the stones to activate from the Hindu "mantra" or what he was speaking to them; if you google you can find out what the whole Hindu phrase is, i know he says Shiva i can hear in the mantra. This film was based off of the old adventure films from the old days Lucas wanted; like Gunga Din etc. Also this film is a prequel to Raiders, it's 1935. Indy was known as an archaeologist around the world and was making one if his first deals for the peacock diamond. There is a lost deleted scene that showed Shorty before he broke his chain see a guard fall on the fire and he woke up and then he knew what to do. (the other interesting is on the side of the bridge; when Mola Ram touches the one stone for a second, it said in the novelization that he woke up from the Poison and he was almost confused where he was etc and was supposed to have turned back; obviously he has to die and they didn't leave it in the film) Check out Quan in Goonies definitely! Quan is in a new movie called everything everywhere all at once, if you can watch it, it's amazin!

Like falling out of an airplane in an inflatable raft and surviving the landing, and then the fall off the cliff, not to mention the mining cart flying off one set of rails and landing perfectly on the other isn't also completely unrealistic. All the people whining about KotCS were simply seeing Indiana Jones from an adult perspective after remembering the original three from a child's perspective.

Asia and BJ, that Monkey brain dish actually is (was) a delicacy in some parts of the world. There was a movie called "Faces Of Death" that came out in the 80s It's kind of hard to find now I imagine but there's a scene of some people at a table n a restaurant actually eating it. But it's a pretty cruel ritual to watch. They have a small live monkey in a cage of some sort and they all take turns bashing the monkey's head with a little hammer. When it finally dies, they then saw open the top of the skull and start spooning out the brains and eating it like you see in this movie.
