Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Last Great Movie In The Series?

Ойын-сауық

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was the end of an era. It marked the last Indiana Jones movie of the eighties, with the fedora wearing archeologist only returning to the big screen seventeen years later, by which time a lot had changed. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade teams Harrison Ford's Indiana with his greatest sidekick - his own father Henry Jones Sr. played by the great Sean Connery. Steven Spielberg and George Lucas consider this a lot better than Temple of Doom. Do you agree? Let us know in the comments!

My favorite of the franchise because of the character moments with Indy & Henry. Also, his going through the booby traps to find the Grail was unforgettable. Finally, the ending is one of the best in all of cinema. From the excellent John Williams score to the "Junior" reveal & finally the heroes riding off into the sunset. It still puts a smile on my face.

I was a huge Indiana Jones superfan as a kid, even dressed up with a hat and a whip to reenact the best parts of the movies. I always dreamed of sequels in the years after Last Crusade... But if Crystal Skull and Dial of Destiny taught me anything, it's that some things are better left alone, and there is such a thing as "too late". To me, the original movies are the best trilogy of all time. The latter two films are more like Indiana Jones satires.

I can't stand most movies, and rarely went to the movies due to how little I cared for most offerings. So to see a film and pay for it three times, says something really special about this movie. Rest in peace to those amazing actors from this film who are no longer with us, as you all made this movie what it was, is and forever shall be.

Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade is 35 years old! I remember my late dad had it on vhs tape recorded The film works tremendously thanks to the perfect chemistry of Ford and Connery; their wit full banter is so much fun seeing them bounce off back and forth Considering Indy didn't have a perfect upbringing and his father was more obsessed with artifacts and his studies than his own son would create a rift There's a few touching scenes highlighting that Indy deep down has a big respect for this man who's let him down time and time again The score still works by John Williams, there's plenty of fun action set pieces from a plane shootout to a tank chase in the desert to a pursuit by Nazis via motorcycle, some impressive special effects with the Holy Grail itself, and there's many lighthearted moments The writers cleverly insert a lot of the Arthur legend with Christian mythology There's also a great theme of fathers and sons, the true treasure is the love and acceptance we seek from our parents, teaching our kids self reliance is either beneficial or harmful, taking a leap of faith is all it takes, there's a price for immortality choosing wisely or poorly, seeking illumination is more valuable than treasure Sadly River Phoenix as young Indy passed away at a young age and many fans and critics would've preferred this to be the final film But two sequels did follow allowing the legacy of this character to live on for newcomers 'Last Crusade' has a very accessible plot and developed the main character's backstory even more making the emotional crux of the film work while also capturing the classic B-movie thrills of those old serial adventures It's right up there with 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' recapturing the same magic that made these films so special

The scar was a result of "a fast car crash," which Ford described as "a real mundane way of earning it." A then unknown Ford was driving to work at a California department store one morning when, while fumbling with his seatbelt, he crashed into a telephone pole. Slamming headfirst into the steering wheel, followed by some "inept emergency surgery," as the "Star Wars" star put it, resulted in the scar.

Sean Connery made almost anything watchable. He's been in some bad movies, but he almost gets you through them by letting you know he knows it's ridiculous. Diamonds Are Forever was one of the first movies where I got the sense he knew what the audience knew. Fortunately, this is a great film and he's just having fun with it because he knows he's in good hands. There's no winking and nodding like in some of his poorer films. I wish Karen Allen had returned, though. That's my one criticism of the movie. The Dr. Schneider character wasn't bad, but Marian was a classic badass chick who could get in over her head with multiple baddies, but she was more than capable and intelligent. Dr. Schneider created that illusion early on, but it was clear she was putting on a mask. She was really just a damsel in distress with villainous tendencies. Granted, she was a lot better than Willy, who was horribly annoying and frustrating to watch. But it was great to see Indy and James Bond in a movie together. Once CG was introduced into these movies, they went straight to hell. What made the first 3, even the 2nd one, good was the storytelling and the stunt work. Everything looked real because it was real. Human beings made the first 3, not a computer.

Crystal Skull was tough to love, but had moments of pleasure. The Dial of Destiny improved upon what the Crystal Skull could have done but it too was flawed. So nothing will top those first 3 for me. But I do love me some Indy, even if those youngsters say "No more." Why? Because it was never about the adventures he went on but HOW he overcame insurmountable odds to succeed. It was his character's journey I cared about most, in no small part to Harrison Ford himself.

I watched crystal skull for the first time last month and honestly it isn’t that bad. It’s basically the Indy version of a Star Wars prequel. I enjoyed it, and I was entertained throughout. DOD though I turned it off after around 40 mins. It was soulless and boring. Like if you asked AI to make an Indy film.

I dont miss this movie as much as I miss the time it was released. This was still a time in life that I believed in action and adventure. Now post Covid, the world has changed to shit, and everyone is an A hole. I miss that feeling of being a kid and everything seems possible. FML Im so depressed.

Yes - it's the last decent Indiana Jones film. What really makes the film is team of Ford and Connery as father and son. The idea of Indian Jones and James Bond together in a film. They have good chemistry, and it does touch on the father and son relationship. It also manages to have an element of fun - which was really missing in Temple of Doom(which I do think is quite a flawed film). It was also good that Sallah and Marcus Brody made a comeback. Elisha was a good Indy girl - far better than Willie. Walter Donovan is a decent enough villain - probably not in the same league as Mola Ram and Belloq though. There are some decent action set pieces : the speedboat chase in Venice and tank chase in finale. I do think the finale, where Indy has to get the grail is well thought out(he needs otherwise his dad will die). I suppose you could argue that it feels sort of Raiders-lite - but never the less, I think it would probably been a good send off for Indy. It still has a place in my heart. Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls wasn't a bad film - but it just felt so uninspired. Really flat tonally. It really did feel "Indiana Jones by the numbers". The only redeeming thing about that film was the bringing back of Marion Ravenwood.

That photo @1:15 of a poor Indy, being corralled by Lucas and Spielberg, reminds me of the classic Southpark episode where the boys try to rescue Indy from them both. He looks a little uncomfortable? 😪

The best Indiana jones movie. Raiders is the best movie, but this entry does more for the character than any others.

Although Crystal Skull isn't as bad as people say, the original trilogy will still be talked about in 50 years compared to DoD, a movie I don't even care to see, but probably will watch when it drops on D+ and maybe just a one-time thing.

15:05 Biblically accurate depiction of the curse described in Zechariah 14,12: "And their flesh will rot where they stand. Their eyes will rot in their sockets. Their tongues will rot in their mouths." Describing the fate that awaits the enemies of Zion (who will all be totalitarian imperialists, so there's no need to shed a tear for a single one of them).
