Maybe but the kid who played him did a great job.

I love how the fedora man has this grudging respect for Indy. Especially when Indy escapes the train and he ends up smirking, truly impressed with the kids adaptability and skill. Almost like he can see the boy he himself used to be and the man that Indy will one day become simultaneously. Nice little scene in a fun movie.

Joaquin Phoenix loved his brother as an inspiration to his acting career. His performance as the Joker was a beacon to River's tribute.

Damn. They don't show the best bit. The bit when Fedora's exasperated gaze slowly but surely transforms into a smile filled with admiration.

@@believer4002 He felt "sorry" for Indy which is why he gave him the hat. That one guy who tried taking the cross back at 1:17 didn't feel "sorry" because as soon as he got the cross back he was cheering with excitement. The guy holding Indy in the back at 1:18 also felt "sorry" because when he left Indy's home, he nodded at him like he was saying "nice meeting you" and left.

2:08 He couldn’t help but smile, because he respected the kid’s courage.

Fun fact: Harrison Ford had a part in picking River for the role, saying of the young actors at the time, River looked the most like him when he was around that age. And River does such a good job capturing Harrison’s mannerisms. RIP River 🕊 🪦

I mean, we can’t ignore how perfect River Phoenix was as young Indy. He could easily match Harrison’s facial expressions, acting and way of talking. If he was still around now he could have played young Indy or a young Han Solo magnificently.

Ya Ford highly recommended River after Mosquito Coast, saying the kid resembled him the most as a youth.

I love that River made an effort to match Harrison Ford's mannerisms and speech patterns. Summer named her son Indiana. She must have really loved seeing her big brother in this movie. He was her hero.

There's an interview given when he was still 17 where he said with enthusiasm that the next thing he was going to film was a fun cameo for Indiana Jones 3.

This was one of River's best scenes. Having his hair fall down and cover his face was cute! Nice touch to make the scene a bit more amusing!

There's a really interesting detail at 1:06, where we can see that one of the goons is pointing his gun at Indy, but in the next shot fedora man is shown holding it down, indicating that a shot was cut where fedora man lowers his goon's gun pointed at a kid. Just another example of how likable such a brief character is

2:01 River went back to Stand by me

The lion scene was my favorite, he backs up, all fearful, then he sees the whip, and grabs it, all while the Raiders March starts to play in the background, his first use of his signature tool.

River Phoenix was great in this.

This is River Phoenix. Leonardo DiCaprio looked up to him. There is a clip of him as a youngster on the set of Growing Pains saying "Do I look like a young River Phoenix?"

I heard that Squall from Final Fantasy VIII was modeled on River Phoenix. Seeing River's hair, his face and especially the eyes, it really looks possible. Plus I wonder now if Squall's first official mission in Timber on the train was kind of a homage to River in this movie.

Yeah and I'm sure that there are other characters in works of fiction modeled on him, too. I'm going to be writing my own comic books and for one comic I'm doing that's like Lord Of The Rings mixed with Conan The Barbarian, I'm going to model a young, long-haired wizard in the comic on River Phoenix, too.

Never do Heroin OR Cocaine. And certainly, never do Heroin AND Cocaine together because it was a ''Speedball'' -a mixture of Heroin and Cocaine that killed River(there are also Speedballs that consist of other hard drugs mixed together). Speedballs have killed a lot of people(including a long list of celebrities)and they have seriously impaired and injured some people. Steven Adler-formerly of Guns N'Roses(who was actually kicked out of a band notorious for it's lifestyle of excess and debauchery-for doing too much drugs), suffered a massive drug-induced stroke from a Speedball that left half of his face paralyzed and his speech permanently slurred.

Shout out to legend stunt man Steven Lambert, who doubled River in these scenes. He was a good friend, a legend in the stunt community and recently passed away. RIP buddy.
