The boulder is an optical illusion. The boulder is a real boulder that spins on a swivel. It weighs a lot! But... here's the illusion. You come into the room and the light is shining right on Indy. Your car vibrates as if it's backing up to avoid the boulder. The truth is your car stays put and the ROOM moves backwards. The light on Indy gradually reveals the boulder and it looks like it's coming at you.

Really? This enormous rock didn't roll when my parents and I went on this ride again this year in October AKA Fall 2014. There were a lot of problems with this ride that my cousin likes.

The ride does break down and is probably one of the most technical rides at the park. Remember, the ball isn't rolling AT you. It's in place. Sometimes the room is still resetting when you enter it, and that's because the car either stalled or went too fast a a specific part of the ride. but 80% of the time, it should sync up.

Nightwing20 OR the boulder is a piece of Styrofoam.. and its on a track, turning and rolling towards you, mechanical arms lower the boulder slightly as your car backs up, then goes underneath it the boulder. How do I know this? Because I broke down right infront of it, and got to see the boulder roll fowards, and reset... with the lights on! Also- the cave doesn't reach the floor... Explain this Nightwing20...

This feels like a tour through an old 1930s movie set. 🙌

This ride is awesome. It's fake yet cool. Millions of kids would end up getting scared to death of the robotic cobra whose fangs protrude out of it's mouth in the Snake Temple scene of the ride. I'm planning to go back on this ride with my parents again next year in May. This year in December, I dreamed that I was an extra in the character's movie from the past as Clarice Krups (Indy's made up best friend). The slow speed of the REM and changes in brain waves took me back in time to the time that the movie was released. I did see a full bodied image of Harrison Ford in his youthful years before he aged as we know today in his famous outfit for the protagonist who has his own ride in Disneyland. He was about to take the silver idol instead of the gold one from Raiders of the Lost Ark. The cave was about to shake and booby traps were going to go off. It was nothing like the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular located in Disney's Hollywood Studios. I'd love to tell more about it, but I'm having trouble remembering the rest of what happens in my dreams. I'm hooked on this ride.

Those bright lights you see during the ride when its supposed to be dark are the ride's night vision lights so that they can see if your doing something your not supposed to while its dark. And they're pretty bright so watch out XD

It's a moderate drop like the second one of Pirates of the Carribian, and there are two rope bridge drops. It's also very jittery, it flops around like a very old car. But trust me - it's an awesome ride!!!

miracle thecrybaby well, to start, the track is almost completely flat and the steepest grade is a little over 45 degrees. Also it's not a roller coaster.

i remember stopping on the bloulder part for 10-20 mins xD Bonus Fact - the flashes at the end of the ride is the remainser of the photos that used to be taken

BroFilms this version never took your picture. The subsequent iterations however (dinosaur and the Tokyo clone of this) do snap a photo on that dip.

@@rct3isepic dinosaur doesn't take your photo on the drop. It's when your vehicle stops one last time in front of the dinosaur. That's when the mission is getting aborted due to the meteorites coming down, and that dinosaur. I forgot the name of it.

1:45 (use , and . ( but dont hit shift) to step through frame by frame (leave it to Google to not advertise the advanced features of one of its products and then wonder why barely anyone uses it....)) Its one of those ballcaps with Mickey ears. Luckily the ride vehicles are self powered (IIRC) and the track is only there to keep the vehicle centered and control the steering. As the vehicle moves through the attraction the there are pins that ride in the center groove which are connected to the steering control rods. So it mechanically steers itself and the ride controller just has to control its physical position over the length of the ride track.

i did this rid once and it stopped on the bridge

We rode indiana jones and it had technical difficulties while we where right under indiana dangling right before the rock. Lights came on and we where evacuated after siting for 20 minutes.

I thought this was a Rosales coaster

I didn't realize there was so much blank space on the ride

@@purplesynthofficial wtf?!? Its an optical illusion based on a trap in the first movie. The boulder spins, the Stewart platform of the ride car simulates rolling backwards by tilting forwards (using gravity to simulate the velocity moment vector making it feel like moving backwards) as the room slides over you, but the ride car is actually stationary. The light moving with the room illuminates more of the boulder, coupled with the moving walls, makes it seem like its getting closer. Then the ride car moves again continuing down a drop in the ride track course. Check out one of the diagrams of the track layout, its a pretty tricked out attraction.

I rode it three times. First time I was scared and put in the back. Second one time not so scared FRONT SEAT too. Third time with fast pass not scared but in the back again. The projections changed on the third time. So did the voice at the start of the ride.

You know how when you are stopping at a stoplight and you see cars going forward while you stop, but it still feels and looks like you are moving forward even though you aren't moving? It's the same thing here. The Jeep stops, while the wall around the boulder moves forward, and the ball stays put, giving the illusion it is moving forward and that you are moving backwards. It's really an amazing effect too.

That whole part is just a huge like Styrofoam ball that has a spinner connected to it n either side. Oh, and when the the car "backs up" the walls of the room are moving and the car is actually stopped and when the car moves forward again, the ball on the spinner spins when moving towards it so that is why it looks like it coming at you.

@@enderflames6572 the Boulder is moving towards you because it is on its own track. The tunnel boosts the illusion of this. If the Boulder doesn't work, it's stuck in the back of the room.
