People are calling him intelligent and making jokes about how he shouldn't have gotten caught where as they aren't thinking about how it affected Indian student's image and the university. Imagine getting scammed of 85k by a student who's not even intrested in studying and literally faked his own dad's death. None of the individuals who made jokes about this wouldn't like it if that happens to them. I'm so glad of the comments that are calling out his behavior as negative and how it affects us indians. And to the people who are calling anand "intelligent" if he was intelligent he would've studied and made his parents proud by being on the right path. Scamming an university and faking your dad's death isn't intelligence, he gained sympathy from the university and the university is still kind enough to let him go without charges. Because of anand, abroad countries got another reason to call indians scammers. Shame on you Anand.

Seems to me like the general moral compass seems to be lost amongst desis especially abroad with an attitude of it being ok to lie cheat steal because it’s America. It is amazing indeed because most of the time it is not possible. Students from India compete with each other for a 3-4% chance of getting into any college in America. Even once here, due to racism and heightism Indians get passed over for several jobs. Indians have no choice but to work super hard to get the best grades to get in on pure merit. Indians when they come to America, never help each other in careers because of our deep belief in merit. Luckily for us this means we also have a stereotype of Indians being hard workers and intelligent, which this kid obviously used this stereotype to his benefit. 😢

@@ajam3086To achieve blockbuster success in any field, you often face a choice between the right and wrong paths. The reality is that to achieve exceptional success, especially in areas like politics or business etc., you often need to manipulate feelings, convince others, or present partial truths. This isn't inherently wrong; many successful individuals in different fields do it. That guy chose a different way out, and while he may have made a mistake and felt guilty about it, it's important to remember that he's young. His mind is extraordinary, he thought out-of-box, differently, not like a experimental mass rat. He recognised his mistake and felt remorse this are signs of growth. In his context, his actions are understandable and part of his learning process. We must blame the system.

I doubt your words will reach them though, by the way he expresses himself I can deduce that he is the type of person that will work to the bone very very hard all of his life, complain how unfair the world is and still die poor without success. He is too naive he thinks in white and black, the world is full of greys. He’s too idealistic and I say this because he completely missed the point the original commenter was trying to make. He owes his life to the reddit mod,if he would be caught at a later stage he would be facing felony charges and the US is not like India in any respect, his life would have become hell. The reddit mod just saved his entire life ahead. The university literally pitied on him, they could have easily pressed charges on him,but since he was in the second year and had partially confessed to the wrong doings, they literally forgave him. He not only took the place of a deserving candidate but also ruined the trust of the university in Indian students. Congo to him the university would be now extremely cautious while reviewing Indian applications. same happened to me, when i applied for scholarships for 2 continuous years, but they gave it to the guy who faked his caste and 12th certificates. now he already graduated from germany and making millions, while i am still struggling to get same scholarship. SHAME on the system.

@@SRJ7798 This comment summarizes the difference between the general mentality of Indians and Chinese vs SEA nations. Even if you're poor or facing hard times,it doesn't mean you resort to immoral/unethical practices, this is evident in even the street food culture in the said nations. There is always a "cleaner/ethical" path to your goals.
