Indian atheist debates Evangelical Christian

Otangelo asked why I am an atheist. I said it had to do with there being no evidence for the existence of god. The conversation took us towards logical models and methods of knowing what is true.
I am Vimoh, an Indian atheist and my videos have to do with religion, atheism, Indian culture, and sometimes contemporary political happenings.

At least the Atheist is honest when he says "I don't know". Something that seems very hard for some people to admit. And to his defense. There is yet to be any proof of any supernatural existence.

Its about the sense of insecurity ! People fear to live with the statement "I don't know" and hence look for something to cling on irrespective of the fact that its untrue. In short, delulu is the new solulu

    1. Because there are no facts to support your belief in God 2. Because historically this belief in an unverifiable God has always be used to create rules (i.e.) what people should or should not do to receive God's blessings or curses Atheism is not a "belief". Its a mechanism to say "Here's what we know based on facts and here's what we don't know". It is a way to appreciate the world for all its grandeur and complexity without automatically assigning it an all knowing creator.

@@roywallace5899 A lot of folks have been subject to mental conditioning at a young age and that is something that is very hard to overcome. Logic and facts rarely win against deeply held beliefs. Religion is very very old and for all the terrible things it has unleashed, it has still provided people with a sense of structure and belonging. It will take a long time before religion is replaced.

Not having a reason to believe in God is not a good reason to not believe in God? I can't help myself. I think we're going to need to list a few things we don't have good reason to believe. Starting with the obvious: -Santa -the tooth fairy -easter bunny -the flying spaghetti monster -mermaids -Bigfoot Does it follow that not having a reason to believe in mermaids is not a good reason to not believe in mermaids? I don't think it's necessarily the case that the universe is expand "into something" since space-time is within the universe. Think of it like all the galaxies are dots drawn on the skin of a balloon as it's blowing up, but the skin of the balloon itself is space-time. The analogy is weak because the balloon is in atmosphere, so you need to focus just on the skin and ignore the atmosphere. The atmosphere is in space-time but it wouldn't be true for the balloon as the universe. The *inflation* of the universe had a beginning. That's not the same thing as the universe having a beginning. Wasn't the demonstration of the existence of the Higgs-Boson particle ontological? They had calculated it should exist and set about an experiment to show it existed. I'm still not that confident with ontology.

Hi this was a very interesting conversation. I don't want to debate but just explore it further. We all know that the physical world is ruled by very strict laws. They are almost mathematical in nature and no one calls mathematics, God. However we don't know the spiritual rules, we don't even know that spiritual rules exist. So we know, that we don't know much about anything or many things. So far God per se is defined differently by different people and has remained elusive to all. But if we understand spiritual rules (if they exist) maybe we can then kind of pinpoint multiversal God. Just a thought.

  • @vimoh

@@vimoh so in order to prove spiritual laws we will need to invent some machines to measure them, show them, or for that matter price it's existence. Having said that I am sceptical of scientific rules and laws because in spite of empirical evidence they refuse to accept certain ideas as truth.
