@@richmanifesto1090Are you aware of how the territory for Washington DC was taken from the US states of Maryland and Virginia, to create a neutral territory for the governance of the whole country? The portion taken from Virginia was later returned, but let’s pretend it wasn’t. Imagine if the purpose of DC was to serve as a capital for just those two states. It wouldn’t be fair for it to be a part of either state, so it makes sense for it to be its own district governed directly by the federal government. This might give you an idea of how Chandigarh functions. The city functions as the seat of government for the states of Punjab and Haryana, despite being a part of neither, leaving its governance the responsibility of the federal government. I think that’s a pretty rudimentary explanation.

@@enigmasadrenaline6In this very video he said she was neither, rather stating that she was a Burgher. Burghers are descendants of Europeans who settled in British Ceylon. While Burghers can (and should) be considered as Sri Lankan if they assimilated into society, I don’t think Toycat’s grandmother falls under that criteria. She was from Ceylon, not Sri Lanka. She had no connection to Sri Lanka other than being born and raised within the colonial territory that later became Sri Lanka. If she had remained in Sri Lanka after the dissolution of Ceylon, then she would be Sri Lankan. Imagine if a Brit went to Ghana when it was a British territory, had children there, raised them, returned to the UK when Ghana became independent, and then their grandchildren started telling people that they are “part Ghanaian.” Toycat is the grandchild in this situation.
Fun fact: Uttar Pradesh was called the United Provinces in British times, retaining the U.P. abbreviation. United what? Well, Agra and Oudh (prounounced Awadh), as they merged in the aftermath of the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, locally known as "the First War of Independence." Just like U.P., there was a C.P. province (Central Provinces), but because of the impulse to nativize things, it was renamed Madhya Pradesh (madhya मध्य meaning central in Hindi in a geographic sense). To summarize, U.P. is still U.P. but C.P. is now M.P.

@@yourcat2971 That’s right. The British called it the “Sepoy Mutiny,” as if it was merely the East India Company sipahis (sepoys). To Indian nationalists, such as Savarkar, this came to be called as “the first war of independence.” The first time the term was employed, in English anyway, was by Karl Marx. It was the largest anticolonial rebellion in history and there has been extensive debate over what to call it because historians are still in disagreement over the causality: was it economic or political. I merely employed the outdated term for convenience first, as it seems to have achieved a greater level of familiarity beyond India. In all fairness, I did, however point out what it was locally known as (local to where this grand historical series of events, that being in India). Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Nowadays, besides the island of New Guinea and nearby Pacific islands like Bougainville, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, there are now several African nations with higher linguistic diversity than India. So, many educated Andhra people went to live in Hyderabad (which is in Telangana). So, it reduced the literacy rate of today's Andhra Pradesh. Man no offense but this your most uninformed video ever Toycat. Please read this if you watched the video because most stuff there is completely wrong. Saying that Punjab is the center of India-Pakistan problems isn't really correct, during the partition in 1947 most of the Sikh population moved to the east to what is now Indian Punjab due to Pakistan being made as a country for Muslims due to which nowadays Pakistani Punjab has a tiny Sikh population. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are the two least developed states in the whole country despite being the two most populated as well. In Bihar despite alcohol being banned the law is not really enforced at all, in Bihar the police is very easy to bribe and thus Bihar is still not low in percentage of people who consume alcohol. Calling Jain vegetarianism very popular in Maharasthra is wrong, the percentage of population which is vegetarian in the state is 40%, that might seem very high for someone from Europe or the US but in India there are multiple states with over 70% vegetarians like Haryanna, Punjab and Rajasthan. Odisha is pretty famous for its hurricanes and tsunamis which it has suffered a lot of unfortunately. Calcutta became Kolkata to make it more accurate to how Indians would pronounce because Calcutta was based off of British pronouncement. The Marxist uprising known as the Naxalites is based in Chhattisgarh instead of Jharkhand, Jharkhand is the second more affected state but not at all the center. India speaks English as a bridge language more than Hindi, the south has very little Hindi literacy and prefers its own languages but pretty high English literacy thus the country and the Union Government uses English as a way to communicate with the entire country. Maharastra is the center of both Bollywood and also the largest state economically, it has the highest total total gdp and the most factories. Arunachal Pradesh is fully administered by India now I am pretty sure, the places occupied by China are now mostly abandoned I am pretty sure, don't much about that border village though. Calling Tamil Nadu super religious is pretty weird because Southern India in general is less extremist and religious than the North like Uttar Pradesh. Kerala is governed by the Communist Part of India and is the MOST DEVELOPED state in the country, it has the lowest poverty rate *(0.6!)* , the best healthcare, lowest infant mortality rate, highest literacy rate and arguably has the best education system as well. It is almost out of place within the country with its very high development and quality of life. It is also the state which all the people living in the poorer states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar want to move to. Chandigarh is the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, not Punjab and Uttarakhand. For Haryana, economically the capital is Gurgaon (I am from there) which while it is a satellite city of Delhi it is still a part of Haryana. Andhra Pradesh DOES NOT have the lowest literacy rate in the country. It is better than Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. Bihar has the lowest literacy rate of the country. Development wise I would say the best states are Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Punjab, Telangana, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Goa and Maharashtra. I am extremely impressed with the amount of research that went into the video, ngl. India is so incredibly diverse, it's difficult to truly understand this place
I appreciate how you tried to explain the states. Here is a bit more info, and corrections. 1. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana used to be one state post state division according to language act. Both of these states speak telugu but later in 2014 Telangana and Andhra got split because of a dispute about resources. 2. The reason why Calcutta changed to Kolkata, Bangalore to Bengaluru or Bombay to Mumbai is because they are the original names. When the brits came along they tried to anglicise the names and they anglicised a lot of place names in India. Eg. Kozhikode to Calicut, Vishakhapatnam to Vizag etc. 3. I guess you didn't know much about India before it was colonised. So India is a very ancient civilisation and all of these states got united under a single empire multiple times under Gupta rule or Vijayanagara rule or Mughal rule etc. We all have more or less same principle and culture but in a different way. Each state has its own language, own classical dance form, different versions of a same festival etc. So it isn't surprising that we managed to annex all these areas, they all existed before. 4. I am an Indian but I didn't know about that Rajasthani king. Most of us don't know about him so yeah. 5. All of us Indians are native people. What we mean by tribes is, historically also because India has a lot of jungles and mountains, there were and are many people living in tribes in mountains, whose language and culture differs from the rest of the local culture or state. They are called tribes, who don't belong to one of the majority population. India isn't a homogeneous country, like the UK ( the UK natives are atleast whites), we have different languages, religions, festivals, beliefs etc. So advice contacting a local person before doing a video about India. Prevents you from misinformation.

A very interesting fact about maps published in India is obviously that the many occupied territories in Kashmir are obviously shown as ours but also that in all maps Tibet is always labbeled on the borders aswell as China . In all maps a Tibet is kind of highlighted as a seperate region , semi independent region within China , this is so in even all textbooks issued . This is because the annexation of Tibet by the prc was heavily condemned by India as India has many Buddhists and the religion itself originated here .
Absolutely love how ibx2cat pronounces all the states of India! Utter hilarious!

If you really want to visit India and you're a city person, visit Bengaluru as it has lesser pollution and cuz it's big in tech and startups people come from everywhere and as you mentioned, English is a bridge language it is used more than most other places. Example: In Delhi, Hindi is spoken over English. Bengaluru's altitude makes its temperature and weather pleasant. PS. if u do visit, visit in probably the autumn months as it is pretty much monsoon/rainy season right now.

Also want to say, the groupings of Indian ethnicities and languages fall into 3 general ones, *Indo-Aryan* (North, Central, East, West), *Dravidian* (South), and *Sino-Tibetan/Austroasiatic* (Northeast). Each have their own take on religions like Hinduism and Buddhism, style of governments ranging from Communism favored to tribalism in some regions, and foods since some states have spicy, seafood-heavy, and rice-based ones while others are vegetarian and bread-based.

Lemme throw in some contexts idk if u will read this comment 1)Jammu & Kashmir was a state until 2019, when it was made an union territory and even bifurcated into to two: J&K and Ladakh. 2) Pradesh= Province Khand= section Rashtra= nation Nadu/Sthan= Land 3)Indian Punjab was divided into 3 states: Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. This was done based on language, which brings us to 4) most Indian states is formed on linguistic borders. 5) 'New Delhi' is the national capital, which is part of the 'National Capital Territory of Delhi', which in turn is part of the 'National Capital Region'. Delhi is also the only Union territory, which has its own state legislative and state assembly election. Delhi Govt although shares much of its powers with the Central government. 6) Rajasthan means "land of the Kings" coz it was a collection of royal princely states under colonial government. 7) Uttar Pradesh means "Northern Province", and in the year 2000 was bifurcated into Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. 8) Gujarat was formed out of Kutch, Shaurashtra and parts of Bombay presidency. 9) Maharashtra means "the great nation" which is derived from the sanskrit word "Maharathi" meaning "the great Charioteer". 10) Odissa and West Bengal are the only states that didnt have their borders changed after independence. 11) Bengal region was divided on religious lines into West & East Bengal (modern day Bangladesh). Thats why its called *West* Bengal. 12) Kolkata was the Capital & commercial center of British India until 1911. Calcutta (read Kal-kuh-tuh) was the anglicized pronunciation of Kolkata (read: Kole-Kaa-Taa) 13) Tamil Nadu means "Land of Tamils", is the 2nd richest state of India and many of India's classical literature and art forms originate here. 14) Kerala is the last strong hold of communism (West Bengal was communist until 2011, and Tripura until 2018). Kerala was formerly the royal princely state of Trivandrum under British Raj. And yes Kerala has done pretty good for itself and is comparable to many 1st world nations. It has a poverty rate of only 0.5% and its HDI is on par with Malaysia and Thailand. 15) Telengana was the princely state of Hyderabad but in 1956 it was was united with Andhra Pradesh, as both regions spoke the same language, Telugu. But 2014, Telengana was bifurcated as a seperate state, out of Andhra Pradesh.
In Childhood our first drawing starts from making Tricolour 🇮🇳 with Ashoka Chakra of 24 spikes in the centre totally nostalgia 🥺🥺
Bengaluru was called Bangalore because of the British Raj attempting to make city names easier to pronounce. Such examples are: Viśākhapaṭnaṁ / Vizag Tiruvanantapuraṁ / Trivandrum Tirucchirāppaḷḷi / Trichy Kōḻikkōḍŭ / Calicut But because Indo-European language speakers can’t pronounce some of the sounds in those city names (and because locals found it easier to say those names since they took less time), those British names became well-known and commonly used despite the state governments renaming the cities.

Mumbai and Delhi are probably the best places to visit on a first trip to India. And a visit to Delhi can include a visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra as well
Bangalore, bombay and Calcutta are brtitish names for bengaluru, mumbai and kolkata respectively. So many posh people still use the british names.
*🇮🇳 Interesting fact:* the fact that ibx2cat uses Google Maps® to explain the states of India means that just by looking at the Script underneath the English text of the places in the state, you can clearly make out the different languages of our country & where they're spoken (as all Indian languages have their own scripts) like: 🇮🇳 Hindi - हिन्दी 🇧🇩 Bengali - বাংলা 🇮🇳 Telugu - తెలుగు 🇮🇳 Tamil - தமிழ் 🇮🇳 Gujarati - ગુજરાતી 🇵🇰 Urdu - اُردو 🇮🇳 Kannada - ಕನ್ನಡ 🇮🇳 Odia - ଓଡ଼ିଆ 🇮🇳 Malayalam - മലയാളം 🇮🇳 Punjabi - ਪੰਜਾਬੀ

India has the largest Urdu speaking population on earth. Bengali is spoken by 9.7 crore people in India and Indian dialect (Kolkata dialect) is the accepted as the standardized and official form of Bengali language. Traffic is the worst.
It is very good that you are trying to understand beautiful Bharat. But please note that it is the British who tried to 'categorise' the religions - the Abrahamic religions are the 'foreign' religions, that originated somewhere in the middle east. The rest are mainly the offshoot of Vedic religions - they are all one and the same. They originated in Bharat. Jai Bharat Mata ki 🙏
Andra was only recently split to create Telghana, UT capital is shared by punjab and haryana, haryana was added to punjab by the british so they were separated when state was formed, you should have mentioned language of different state. And you should have mentioned all UT, like Puduncheery territory is separate and each territory is surrounded by different state
Should have talked about Puducherry, since it is actually 4 non-contiguous regions.
Lot of the names which have changed were done so to give them the proper pronunciation as per the native regions. The previous names of the states were Anglicized, and sorry to say 'bastardized' the names to some extent. Hence, Bangalore more recently became Bengaluru, Madras became Chennai, Calcutta became Kolkata, Bombay became Mumbai. Might I add that all this is a very conscious attempt by the Indian state and people to remove the remnants of the British colonial legacy of which frankly not many of the people can relate to at all. However, India has not gone overboard with this as there are still British colonial names for Parks, Streets, Buildings and much much more which remain and will continue to remain.

24:07 They do scare away businesses. 😂😂.
22:28 - You might be interested to know that the letters in the bottom row (and the sounds they represent) are not Tamil at all. They ended up here due to the influence of the Sanskrit language over the centuries. This influence has faced resistance from the "Pure Tamil movement" (do check it out!) that took root in the last century. 22:46 - Tamil Nadu in general is equally rational as it is religious, thanks to the "Dravidian movement" that has successfully put the State high on many positive indexes of development. 23:38 - CPI(M) and CPI are not really fighting in Kerala. They are allies. It is the "Indian National Congress" (INC) that is numerically the real opposition in the State.
