9:36 heyyy thanks for answering this question!! feels surreal hearing it on the way back home while listening to it. really thankful for both your insight on this issue. And im surprised/impressed particularly the fact of OKM is familiar with genetic sequencing, you have a pretty wide breadth of knowledge :D I just wanted to add to my question on top of your discussion here, that i was referring to R&D in bioinformatics for fields such as agriculture and conservation. For example, last couple months the Plantation Minister had talked about rubber tree genetics in Parliament, and how studying them could improve rubber yield & exports, as a big proportion are dying to diseases. So it would be really interesting to know how committed/or even aware the govt is in genomic sequencing (beyond just medicine & pharma)

Hello are we ok team. Thank you for another great sharing. Well, I've asked this before on Mr Money podcast but fault is mine as I didn't respond back to Peter when he requested that I get in touch. Was too busy to follow up. I would like to request again on the EPF topic. Many Malaysians (especially those aunties), they don't understand how they can gain from the compounding interest when saving under EPF. They seemed too fearful to contribute due to the fact that they can't get their money out when in need. I hope that you can cover more in more details (i.e. which account can money be taken out before 50 vs 60 years of age). If they are above 60, how easily can they take out their money. In short, What's the criteria and process (if that makes sense). If you can update Chinese subtitles would be better. While, I think I know, I surely am no expert and do not wish to give them wrong info. In advance, I thanked you.😊

When we talk about EPF annual yield we should take into account of the ACTUAL average inflation rate during the corresponding time period. If you do a survey, men in the street and on the ground would tell you the 2023 inflation rate was at least around 7%-8%. So, if you hit that against the EPF 5.5%, what do you get? Nothing -- ney, worse than nothing -- your hard-earned saving in EPF actually shrank by 1.5%-2.5% last year. This may not impact that much to those who are still in employment, but for retirees that's seriously worrisome!

Dear OKM, there’s another group you forgot, either in a broader economic discussions or the Bumiputera Economic Congress, that is orang kurang upaya (OKU). Truth be told, when you started pointing out two forgotten groups, I was holding my breath, thinking you would be the first to recognise the marginalisation of disabled persons from economic discussions, but sadly… even in U.S., and in many broader issues, disabled persons seemed invisible and neglected. On one hand, I am cognisant of the failure of disabled people’s movements in Malaysia in pushing aggressively the mainstreaming of disabled persons’ issues and perspectives. However, at the same time, there exist various systemic and structural barriers faced by disabled persons to be part in broader economic and political discussions, besides the stigma attributed to having an impairment. Having said that, I remain optimistic and enthusiastic to converse with you (and possibly with your friends as well) in advancing such an inclusive discourse

There was no 'opportunity', at least not for Malaysia. Malaysia doesn't have the financial, logistical means to hold the series of 6 concerts. Singapore paid Swift much more money for exclusivity. You can tell from the video how much they spent on the making the whole event a big show. Forget it. Move on.

I definitely agree Malaysia especially via key hubs such as KL, Penang should be positioned as key international cultural/entertainment hubs which can help generate ten's of billions RM per year. This is because in addition to a very large local market, our accommodation, travel and food are much more affordable, making it much easier for our ASEAN friends. However, having said that, Malaysia priority should not be these things but rather focus on being a world-class digital/technology and financial hub in Asia. That's much better, more sustainable and bigger bang for the buck. You are talking about US$100bil - US$200bil to GDP every year.

EPF needs to be transparent on how they came up with 5.5 vs. 5.4%, if it's due to most of the Tech stock are performing, shouldn't the conventional also gain more, what the ratio here, how the fund was separated to ensure, how the return is calculated? I totally disagree about EPF being professional here. Is EPF being professional by putting so much fund inside Malaysia knowing that it's bad investment for the contributors? They are entrusted with the Rakyat hard earned money, and they should ensure the maximum return for all contributors, instead of following the instruction from the best financial minister in Asia.

We Malaysia should consider giving land certificate to bumiputera land owners. This is based on the book The Mystery Of Capital by Hernando De Soto. For example, most land ownership of Sarawakian Bumiputera is under tanah adat, this makes the land owner cannot attain capital by using the land as collateral. However, the Chinese in the city, most if not all of their properties are registered. This makes Chinese can attain capital easily. Like my family, we own a big parcel of land, but for what use? My family worth is still considered B40. Like the Orang Asli, they have land, why not give land title. They can get investment thus boost their economy.

@@ChowYewLoon you have a valid concern. However, The word "Malay Reserve" or "Bumiputera Reserve" is the very thing that make the land have less Value. The land is in the name owned by the Bumiputera, but actually owned by the state or federal gov. I give you example at our place, Bintulu Sarawak. The lands can be sold at higher price but it cannot be used in wider economy activities like rent out to investors or used as legal investment. Thus no one see economic value of the land. These Bumiputera land that can be sold at higher price now sold at very little price only among Bumiputera. You might think it will sold out. That will never happen. It is getting harder to buy land now because a lot of Bumiputera already know the value of owning a land.

The Unity Govt portrays a more fairer and multiracial approach in their policies. Or is it ? The recent conclusion of Bumiputra Economic Congress saw the proposal for Bumiputra Land Corporation where 20% of land lease must be returned and assigned to BLC upon renewal of lease. While it is still not clear how the assignment will be done, it is definitely a step backward if the Unity Govt is trying to portray its new image of being fairer to ALL Malaysians especially the NONs. This I can say will increase the hate votes from the NONs in GE16.
