My mother’s name is Sukuma Rani. She was born in 1975 just after 1971 war. He is uneducated but learnt about war and how a country North of Us helped. Contrary to the popular belief, no important Western leader or his/her Administration actually expects India to support them against Russia simply because (apart from multiple other important reasons) Russia is crucial to India's survival and no nation, least of all India, will put it's own survival at stake to appease it's foreign friends. As a result the leaders of the Western Powers are onboard with India in this matter. However at the same time, on one hand they have to allow their minions to make some noises re: putting pressure on India for the sake of the desired Optics since (a) they have to maintain that facade in front of their own public whom they are bombarding with war rhetoric & propaganda _vis a vis_ the totally unnecessary & avoidable War unfolding in Europe;- the devastating "Internecine Slav War" which they have imposed on Ukraine & Russia both. And (b) each one of these Democratically elected Leaders have to deal with not only influential war mongers & "ideologically possessed" thugs within their Party & Administration both but also the ambitious as well as the disgruntled lot too. Then, of course, there is the Opposition whose job is to criticise anything and everything the incumbent Rulers do even though they will be doing exactly the same if/when in power. Which brings in those in the Media & Academia who are also obliged to publicly discuss different views, question their Government & demand their leaders must ensure every friendly Nation, in this case India, falls in line. And finally there are powerful Pressure Groups thus inclined too; especially those that are not well disposed towards India - for them it is a golden opportunity to berate India and derail the burgeoning close relationship developing between their Country and India. Whereas on the other hand, India's ties with the West is becoming deeper every passing day. India's stance re: ongoing Ukrain Conflict has done absolutely nothing to impede the pace India's deepening ties with the West. And that too has its valid reasons: consecutive American Presidents, both Republican and Democrat, have articulated "US-India Ties to be the most important partnership of the 21st century" and the Ukrains Conflict is too small an event to have any impact on that. In fact, it is thanks to India's peculiar stance re: Ukraine Conflict that India has also been able to quietly assist the West in number of ways. For example: the abrupt decoupling with Russia while Saudi Arabia refusing to play ball at this crucial juncture was bound to have a severe impact on Europe within the moment as well as for many years to come. But this quiet Govt-to-Govt understanding has allowed India to engage in a mutually beneficial arrangement whereby it has become the biggest Oil & Gas Supplier to Europe; Indian Companies are purchasing Crude from Russia which is refined in India and then sent to Europe. Without this arrangement not only European Economy (Industry) that has finally started to recover, would have had grave consequences but also, even more importantly, the common peple in Europe would have suffered tremendously as well. So doesn't matter how ironical it seems but there is no other sustainable way for Europe to overcome shortage of fuel at this moment of time.

I been in China just a few days ago, and I found that not a single person goes against Russia. I’ve meet students, janitors, teachers, etc. They generally ❤ Russia and China as a strong team

You can disagree with what he's saying, but his argument is hardly "oblivious to any historical context." His main point is that Russia considers a Ukraine in NATO to be an existential threat to its continued existence, and is acting in accordance to this belief.

Hmm... I don't recall it being only Western nations condemning Russia via the various UN resolutions that were voted on in the General Assembly. For some reason I only remember China and the handful of pariah states being in Russia's corner. But clearly his memory must be better than mine 😉

It was mostly Western nations that condemned Russia, and calling countries that didn't as "pariah" states detaches from the real reason at hand being that non-western countries know that the Ukraine invasion is an American invention than Russian madness

78% of the votes at un march 2 2022 condemned russia invading ukraine. 19% were not against condemning it but abstained. the biggest countries by population, india and china, abstained

The vote was a farce. Truth is that this is a proxy war of US vs Russia. Ukraine is just a pawn just like how west used Pakistan against India during cold war

India is able to be neutral now. Like China was a few decades ago. But if India wants to be leaders in this world, they will need to make difficult decisions. In the event India and China ever come to blows, will India ask the West for help? India wants to be part of the big show now. Being in the big show requires you to take sides. When India was an up and coming developing country, people didn’t seek India’s input on decisions. That’s quickly about to change.

India is perfectly capable of dealing with China on its own, the west always overestimates its abilities and underestimates those that it doesn't agree with.😂

If any of what he says is true, that's a pretty sad state of the world that they would side with Russia when they are truly the aggressors and they're being brutal in the situation regardless of any pretext or rationale they might have used to start this imperial act of aggression against their own neighbor who supposed to be like cousins. Since European nations have started importing oil from Middle East India has to import from Russia to maintain international price of crude oil. India also remained neutral when US and West invaded Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Vietnam, Korea and many more.
