Only a third of Americans have a valid passport. It's a relatively selective group that actually make it out of the country in the first place. Go some place outside of Mexico or Europe, and you don't see many American travelers at all. Of those, the vast majority I've met while traveling have been cool and respectful. Even if it looks uncomfortable in the ‘modern’ world; when you’re in a public space, the squat toilet is infinitely more hygienic than a seat toilet (your skin does not come into contact with any surfaces, i.e. no contact infections). It’s also physiologically the ‘correct’ way to do your business.

I have a western toilet in my house and no one uses that, due to obvious reason of skin contact with the toilet seat and while using the bidget you don't touch the bidget on your bum , it sprays water at pressure so as long as you aren't an irresponsible little kid you won't be making a mess .

When I went on a school exchange like maybe 10 years ago, the girls toilet was just a long deep drain with dividers and no doors so you just hover over the drain, aim your pee and pray it goes in that drain. It's also really stinky cos of all the pee that missed and end up on the floor.

Yeah, I recently went to China and when I first saw the squat toilet I was so confused on how I use it. My mom literally had to come in and tutor me on how to use it 😂

as someone from SEA its common to use that toilet but usually its built on a higher floor(?) and not directly on the ground.

Legends say that day onwards he chose Indian style and then never had issues like piles indigestion stomach ache hernia etc....

1st time I went to Thailand with my ships crew, we didn't know about the floor toilets. Well 4 gallons of alcohol later one of our crew runs out of the bathroom saying someone stole the all toilets. Every place we had been to that day had western toilets and this was the first place that had the squaty potty. After we got an explanation from the staff a few of us tried it out. 3 out of the 20 of us fell as they tried.

One of my classes in japan got moved into a spare room at a university. They had one western and one squat toilet in the bathroom. Some of the train stations had a singular squat toilet per restroom. None of the other foreign students used it. They would rather wait in a line, but it was a cool experience lmao. It seems in japan you either have high tech toilets with bidets and a million settings and heated seats, or it’s basically a hole in the floor.

When I went to India I was literally treated like a celebrity. I would get lines of people asking me for pictures anywhere I went. They don't see a lot of 6ft tall white men with blonde hair and blue eyes. They seriously could not have treated me any nicer. Indian people are very nice regardless of who you are.
