India election: How fierce heatwave is impacting voter turnout | BBC News
Northern India, including its capital Delhi, is reeling under a fierce heatwave with temperatures soaring above 45C over the weekend.
Authorities have closed some schools and the central bank has warned the heat could pose a risk to food inflation.
The searing temperatures come as India holds its general election, the results of which will be declared on 4 June.
However, the extreme weather is disrupting polls turnout, with numbers impacted and election authorities extending the voting window.

Modi doesn't care about the Indian people at all, that's why he doesn't care about climate change, and that's why he says and does nothing about the roughly 200k Indians who die on India's roads every year due to the appalling driving! And Modi certainly isn't embarrassed that India's national capital is the most polluted capital city on the planet! Pollution levels in Indian towns and cities are literally killing tens of thousands of Indians every year, and again Modi says and does nothing. Chalta hai attitude for the whole world to see!

With Modi basically ignoring climate change and global warming and kicking the issue into the long grass by claiming India will try to achieve net zero by 2070, is it any surprise that India's annual summer temperatures are now reaching towards 50 degrees celsius? And now that India's cities are the most polluted in the world, with Delhi being the most polluted capital city on the planet, and India being in the top three nations for water stress, why would anyone be surprised that India is becoming an unliveable hellhole? Overpopulation is an issue too, and seeing as Modi has avoided conducting an official census (the last one being 2011!!) the GOI doesn't actually know what the true numbers are for India's population! @@nehakulkarni5009 Nope, the GOI is responsible for overall climate policy in India, and it wasn't Kejriwal who went on the global stage and announced to the world that India would achieve net zero by 2070, it was Modi. The rest of the world recognises that net zero must be achieved asap, if it's not already too late. For some odd reason (Indian logic??) Modi seems to think that India can ignore the science and hold out until 2070, which is not only bizarre but foolish and suicidal too! It is what it is. The upside is that if more Indians die due to increasing pollution levels and extreme heat, it's a form of much-needed population control, so there is that.

All countries have heatwaves. All countries have unusually cold periods. If the media only report on the heatwaves then that could create a false impression.
As an agnostic about just how much humanity is contributing to global warming, it’s quite interesting to note that the Delhi weather station clocked 47.4 degrees Celsius on May 28, 1988, the highest between 1967 and 2024, when data is available. Safdarjung, Delhi's base station, recorded its highest maximum temperature of 47.2 degrees Celsius on May 29, 1944-the highest for the weather station, which has maintained records since 1931. Now, I’m not necessarily suggesting humanity isn’t contributing to what seems to be a warming planet; it’s just interesting to note how far back some of these highs go. 1944. Full disclosure: I believe the planet is warming; I don’t necessarily believe humanity is 100% responsible for this warming.

The data you refer to has been ideologically captured for 50 years. It's a cycle and CO2 will rise as there's a rise in volcanic activity right now which those with a financial agenda are trying to capitalise on in regards to the brand you subscribe to ideologically.

There are always outliers in any data set. That might have occurred once in a century, and now it might be every 5 years. It's about averages, not a one-off event. We are getting more and more record-breaking temperatures all around the world and an increase in forest fires, storms and other natural disasters. Just looking at the amount of fuel humanity burns a day, its impossible for it not to have an effect on the climate. Especially when coupled with deforestation, ecocide on mass scale for agriculture, industry etc,
