Incredible Views of RI and Downtown Providence!

An incredible tour of the Ocean State! Starting out over the Arcadia Management Area looking toward South County and out over the Atlantic Ocean. Then Narragansett Bay with Newport and the Pell Bridge in the distance. The trees gradually give way to city as we pass Warwick and the airport, Cranston, and downtown Providence. Turning back toward the south you can just catch a glimpse of Amtrak’s northbound Acela Express at 6:13 heading toward Boston. Coming back toward the airport, great views of the East Side of Providence, Brown Stadium and the University, the Port of Providence, and Roger Williams Park. Enjoy!

How many times did I fly into Providence to visit my family in Massachusetts. It was way closer than flying into Logan. Nice flight every time.

RI is stunning from the air. However, the closer you get to Smith St., the worse it stinks.

My brother Rick had a private pilot's license at age 16. I got this view of RI and Providence once or twice flying along with him. Not for nothing the world famous horror writer H.P. Lovecraft said " I AM PROVIDENCE " . Of course , Lovecraft also viewed his beloved Providence ( and neighboring Pawtuxet Village ; see " The Case of Charles Dexter Ward " ) from the perspective of " COSMIC HORROR ". As I do Kennedy Plaza, Providence . Are Providence politicians viewed from the perspective of " COSMIC HORROR " ?

It depends on the wind direction as to whether an approach will be more or less straight-in, or the big circle you saw here. That's because when possible, aircraft are directed so as to land into the wind, minimizing the ground speed at touchdown. On a day like this, with wind apparently coming from a southerly direction, this aircraft approaching from the south first flies past the airport as you noted (its "downwind leg"), then a bit north of downtown turns about ninety degrees to the right on the "base leg", then turns about another ninety degrees until lined up with the runway about ten miles away for "final approach". If the airliner had been coming from the north OTOH, most likely after south of Boston it would have simply made some final adjustment to its heading and flown straight in on the final approach. Or if the wind direction had been opposite to what it was, the video airplane would have got to go straight in and the one coming from the north would have to fly past the airport and do those extra turns.

One of these times me and my girlfriend should fly together that's if her mom and my mom would let us fly by ourselves and I would tell the tsa officers that she has a magnet for seizures and can't go through the x ray machine and that I have type 1 diabetes and I don't know if it could go through the x ray machine at the airport
