@@raghuyadav127 I think the OP is saying the stats in the IPL matches do not reflect the class of a batsman in test cricket. Brian Lara played some really tremendous shots here, and other batsmen may have gotten out playing those balls.

This test and 2003 Antigua test where the bats of Sarwan (as well as his mouth) , Chanderpaul and Lara helped West Indies successfully chase record 417 runs target vs same Australia. Justin Langer too was member of that loser Australian team but he forgot that the then population of West Indies was much less than 1.5billion as well as population of any cricket team on the field is, max 11. The notorious Langer tried to belittle Gabba 2021 test won by India giving reason of 1.5billion population of India but in reality belittled his own ability to coach Australian test team. When Australia can fail to defend targets like 308 runs or even 417 runs in fourth innings, Australia can also fail to defend 328 runs target at 2021 Gabba test vs India and indeed failed.

The amount of pressure Lara was under at the start and during this series….none of the current cricket fans can ever understand. He went from the lowest point of his career to the very pinnacle of cricket all over the course of this one series. I am from India and I still regard this as the best test series ever. Amazing!

I am an Indian but I still believe that Brian Lara was the greatest test batter .

@@mauricemorrison5292 I was in the Banks Stands with all the locals! What an atmosphere! Afterwards, we went to the Boatyard for drinks and who were there but a few of the Aussies. Steve and Mark Waugh, Healy.. I went up to a dejected Steve Waugh just sitting there and told him that the better team won. “No mate! The better team didn’t win” was his reply. I tell this story to so many!

Still Steve Waugh proved to be the best captain for Australian test team excluding those who captained Australia in less than 10 series of tests like Ian Chappell, Richie Benaud, Don Bradman. Australia lost only 2 out of as high as 18 series of tests under captain Steve Waugh just like West Indies losing only 2 out of same 18 series of tests under captain Clive Lloyd. Shane Warne flopped in 1998 and 2001 test series in India, Warne failed to help Australia win 2001Kolkatta test inspite of India batting under a follow-on, on the contrary Australia lost that test. Warne proved to be a liability for Australian team in 2001test series in India.

The greatest innings I’ve ever seen, remember watching it on tv. Lara was the reason I fell in love with cricket.

This innings is closest to my heart. One of my most precious memories.

He was from another planet…true LEGEND.

@@mrmprm8732 that was great as well. but this pitch was a lot harder to make runs on than the ARG. Kensington oval is a pitch with a split personality, has always been,. the first 3.5 days of this test yielded 700+ runs. In the last two innings however, only one dude made more than 50, and that was the prince. the pace bowling in this test was of the very highest standard. you earnt every run, especially on the last two days

​@@juanestadian8471u remove the 105 runs scored by Sherwin Campbell and 68 runs scored by Ridley Jacobs in second innings plus remove the 5 wickets haul from Walsh in third innings , then there was no guarantee hosts West Indies would have to chase not more than 308 runs target in fourth innings for a test win, it was a team effort from West Indies.

Great players are not cowed down in any occasion but rise above it and win matches for their country!!!. Brian Lara is one such great player who did his best for his country to win the match with his majestic innings under pressure!!!. What a great player!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍.

To consistently rain runs like he did, with a backlift coming almost from 12 'O clock every ball is still unbelievable.

Still hard to put into words how Lara won it single handedly. WI were in a precarious spot when Lara arrived and the Prince did it. He doesn't cease to amaze. Thanks for this upload 🤝👍

This was the best Australian attack (even to this day) and Lara made them look like club bowlers. Only King Viv Richards could have matched this astonishing innings...😂

Ramnaresh Sarwan talked well with his mouth as well as equally well with his bat as Australians forgot cricket is to be played with bat and ball and hands and could not bear taste of own medicine handed out from the mouth of the great Ramnaresh Sarwan. The population of West Indies too was much less than 1.5billion at the time of this 2003 Antigua test.

@@mrmprm8732 True. Not downgrading that effort, this was in different circumstance. Lara was under fire for his captaincy, his form was not good and Aussies were pretty good in demolishing the teams by targeting the captains (ask England at that time :) ). Lara had to overcome these odds and then won this match from a hopeless situation...at the end, though Aussies kept the trophy, their confidence were dented by Lara.

Undoubtedly the best modern day test inning... ❤️

The Greatest Test innings ever. Lara Did not have the luxury of Sachin who played with Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman , Sewag . Lara had to do it alone all the time. The only batsman to score a 500, 400, 300,200,100. The only man to create a record and break it himself 10 years later. This innings should be released in DVD/ Blue Ray, just like Lara 400. This inspirational innings will inspire all the youngsters if released. Sachin did not have an innings like this in test in a winning cause.

Will never forget this match. The greatest of test match. Watching matches being played in WI had a different vibe and on top you had Lara. My god, the players, the game was so beautiful

I remember staying up all night in 1999 to watch one man tie the series against the best team and bowling attack in world at the time. This is what made BC Lara the best batsmen especially while West Indies cricket was in drastic decline.
