Rod is from Zeck fishing, Model ,,V-Stick Light'' , its a catfish rod made by catfishers for catfishers handling this size of fish. Braid is 80lb and the reel is a Catfish reel as well. So the equipment fits perfectly.

@@davidwalker6438 Pretty sure reel is either a BlackCat or a Fin-Nor, ABUs wouldnt handle that pressure too well and those guys know that, they're professionals in the end.

That is the biggest catfish I have ever seen in my life! You could literally feed an entire party with just this one fish! I like how you let him go so that he can live life. Way to go with that catch, I’m impressed!

Another big factor is the drag on the reel. You can just about catch any fish on any pound line. Set the drag looser, let the fish exhaust itself out and be patient reeling and you can land just about anything, my friend.

That rod is going to need therapy.

@@catfish-world I know we've got 200+ lb catfish, 200+ lb Paddlefish and 300+ lb Alligator Gar in the Mississippi, Ohio and Missouri Rivers as I've seen them first hand. My Grandfather used to commercial fish the Ohio River in Southern Illinois in the 50's & 60's.The bigfest one I saw him drag in on a Trotline was 88 lbs., but in 1973 one of his old buddies caught 3 massive catfish in a hoopnet, the combined weightcwas 423 lbs., two of them were Flatheads, one was a Blue, the Blue dwarfed both Flatheads, it was twice the size of the smallest Flathead, and half again as big as the larger of the two Flatheads. If you divide it up evenly you get 150, 150 & 123, but I'd guess the Blue was 200 lbs and the Flatheads were closer to 123 and 100. But can you imagine how big Wels Catfish would get in those rivers with all that forage? I don't think 400-500 lbs would be exaggerating! And it wouldn't take them long to get there, maybe 10-years. We've pretty much ruined our rivers with the introduction of European Carp, multiply that tenfold with the Asian Bighead and Silver Carp! Since we already have the damned Carp we ought to import something to eat them!

Our big Blues, and Channel Catfish aren't as good eating as the the smaller ones, but an 80 lb Flathead tastes just as good as a 5 lb'er, its because of their predatory nature, the majority of their diet is other fish, they even eat other catfish, in fact, one of the better baits for big Flatheads is a live Bullhead Catfish in the 1/2 to 1 lb range.

Awesome show of respect. More ppl should be like you. You will always have the video proof of your catch without needing to mount it on your wall.

I'm from Decatur, Illinois. Back in the 1970's a lot of huge catfish where caught there . Never hooked a cat that big, but they existed. The dam inspectors always talked about the 8 footers. You showed the proof. Also huge carp.

Yo these aren't north American cat fish these are Wells catfish from Europe but I'm from Illinois to and do remember the stories of the driver's inspecting the dam and we're scared to go back down because the cats were so big but most north American cats only reach 100 or 125 lbs and that's very rare. And its different when you swim in dirty ass water and come up to a huge cat that you can't see too clear I think the stories were exaggerated a lot. I'm sure they were big 60 to 80 lbs but I doubt much bigger then that cause nobody ever pulled one up on the banks
