It is funny. How some of the best games out there. They are generally ones that just kind of show up out of the blue. No, fanfare. No, word. Just appear. Either by design or simply that a small studio had no budget for marketing. I mean, at times it is a great thing to not hype things up and oversell your product. Cause we've seen a dozen times over....they fall flat on their faces. Some do pick themselves up, improve, and become success. Just there are those out there who are so sour faced after seeing a bad first impression. They still, call a rebound success story a failure story.....maybe they need to check themselves on that kind of thinking. Yet, that cutscene transition. Geez. More devs need to take notes.

@@superubergoober Just like how it sucks that Xbox players can't play Final Fantasy and Spider-man, shame on Sony for that. Hi-Fi Rush is a new IP, no reason at all why it should be released outside of the Xbox ecosystem. And I wouldn't say it sucks anyway. Microsoft owning all these ips means all of them can be played on gamepass on PC, Xbox and cloud, far more options than most Sony games offer.

@@Underdrill the difference being that elder scrolls and fallout didnt start as xbox exclusives, xbox really likes to scoop up already successful ips and make them exclusive. hi-fi rush i could understand why, but im hoping es and fallout arent treated the same way. and no, exclusivity is never a good thing, it only hurts consumers lol. if you wanna keep sucking microsoft off, thats your business. i just wanna play es6 on my playstation

Just finished this game, gotta say that most of the transitions are pretty good

Imagine getting universal acclaim in whatever you do for a living. To the point it gets recognized by your whole industry, and a year later you get laid off for financial reasons. That is this game in a nutshell.

Wow. Now THAT'S how you do a proper transition.

This game is literally an instant classic. People will be playing this 20 years from bow and saying how well it holds up.

@@SrakenKraken Because everyone played it, enjoyed it, and finished it. I imagine it'll start coming up in conversation again once folks start thinking about their GOTY lists. That's one reason live-service games have dominated the industry for so long, if you put out a tight 20 hour game with a solid ending then folks can only talk about it for so long before it's forgotten in favor of the next thing.

I'd say this year is a mixed bag. You got garbage like Forspoken but also this game and Dead Space remake. Then, we got Velma, which is the worst rated show on IMDB but also The Last of Us, which is critically acclaimed and faithful to the games. So yeah, mixed.

@@hazim9529 I still dont know why they call it Dead Space Remake. Its an 80$ Texture Pack with minor fan patch additions. Sure the game is really really good. But you can get the Original for a few bucks and it looks almost the same with some tweaking. Resident Evil 2 and Silent Hill a remakes. Dead Space is an "up to date" remastered.

Sort of reminds me of sunset overdrive.

I’m like 5 hours in and not only is the art amazing the combat is super fun with one of the most satisfying combo systems ever made.

The art in this game is one of the most refreshing and beautiful of the last years

0:33 I think if he continued rolling into the window, the transition would look more graceful. The fact his body suddenly stays upright before the window looks forced for the transition.

I play a lot of games, of all kinds, and lets be real, videogames stories are not made to be seen in a theater, they are made to be played and interacted with. (Surely there are examples of a nicely translated game to movie or other medium, but sadly the majority of those movies/series are just about the money AND nothing else...)

I need to get this game. Robbie Daymond is just such a good VA (and a cool guy in general) and the game itself legitimately looks like a blast

The fact that this game, which came from out of nowhere, can look, sound and play this incredible on what I consider to be an extremely modest gaming PC (sub $1000... two years ago) is mind-blowing. And it also comforts me knowing that there's still plenty of great ideas left to implement in gaming. I've been pleasantly surprised by the game. 2023 is off to a good start.

Saw this video and was interested in the game, went ahead and bought it. It's like "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" meets "Baby Driver", but an action-based rhythm game. It's really damn good, definitely a GOTY contender.

I won't lie the game has some fantastic animation for a video game but I would. E lying if I said the 2D to 3D can be a bit jarring neither look bad I just think the execution could've been done a bit better

I have no clue what you mean. The transition is pretty seamless to me. No loading between the cut, instant transition between 2D and 3D, no real lag due to the sudden change.

Because it's a labour of love. Devs clearly wanted to make this game, knew what they were making and had fun while doing so. This is not a game that went through a commitee and 20 focus group tests to be approved, nor was it designed to be a "live service". It is a fully contained product, with beginning and end, and ins meant to be enjoyed as it is, not as part of larger "service"

You should play more games. A cut to sub par simulated smoke effects transitioning to a cut scene is pretty damn common. Nothing is groundbreaking here. It looks great. But let's be real, something like say even God of War does gameplay to cutscene way more seamless than this early 2000's arcade nonsense.

It’s not only that, the cutscene with the robot punching chai into macarons hideout is a great transition too

This game is PHENOMENAL and deserves all of the attention. I think the game awards is a joke and nothing more than a circle jerk, but this game deserves so many awards.

Okay that's very smart. They disguise the transistion with the very common technique of a fade and jump cuts. It doesn't become jarring because they already established what we are seeing, him going through the smoke, being flung through the window. Also the fact the boss breaks the 4th wall by bending her border with her foot and affecting the drone. The power of visuals is put to good use here.

There is an even better transition later in the game I wouldn't dare spoil. But it uses an impact-frame to transition from 3D to 2D near seamlessly.

That's my favorite part. It's so seamless. I love it.

It is cheaper to subscribe to the game pass, you can play all the xbox exclusives without buying a microsoft console, then you use the money you were going to invest in an xbox and buy a nitendo and a playstation, then you will be able to play all the games from 3 platforms, then in the future you can build a pc and then you can play all existing games.

Impressive they managed to make it so smooth with essentially a really well hidden jump cut between two entirely different artstyles/dimensions.

And to think this came out shortly after Forspoken. Maybe there is a God after all
