@Shawn Rain in 2012?Nadal got buttfucked by rain in the 3rd set. He was leading 6-4 6-3 and 2-0 then the rain hit,he lost 6 games in a row and then the rain hit so they would be even. No rain,Nadal 6-4 6-3. The wrong call was 3rd set,which djokovic lost 6-1. No way was he winning that. 2014 nadal played through the entire season with a back injury. Still won. He was also robbed in the 1st set,when djokovic made a double fault but the judge didnt see that and novak held that service game and thus won the set.

Del Porto is so underrated he could have been such a great if not for the injuries

Actually, he was, and still is. The injuries took him out the courts, yes, but the talent is there. And he could lose but also win against any of the so called "big three" and he did. And he did win important things.

Underrated? What the fuck R u saying? Every tennis fan/supporter knows and loves Delpo..u probably don't know nothing about Tennis if u think he's underrated my gosh..

Djokovic and Del Potro are very good and closed friends. When Novak was injured, only Del Potro believes that he will get back on top. They always hug after a match.

Delpo’s forehand is the only shot in tennis that makes me laugh...love it.

The level in that match was mind blowing. And what’s even more impressive is the fact that it was only Delpo’s 7th match of the season ! He’s always able to comeback at an impressive level so quickly !

I hadn't seen del Potro play so well since Wimbledon 2018. It shows you what he could've become without all those carreer-treatening injuries.

Imo, Delpo would have made it a legit Big 4, winning at least 7 GS's if not for his injuries. Great match!

The type of match in which i like both players VERY much... i didn t even know which of them i wanted to win :) But it was very close, just like i wanted the match to be 😃

Shawn nah man look I’m a djokovic fan but you can’t say that peak Wawrinka or Delpo plays better than peak federer or peak nadal in grandslams. Wimbledon 2017- Federer didn’t drop a set; RG 2008 - Nadal dropped 41 games which is the fourth best record ever I think his RG 2017 was even more dominant (only 38 games). So my point is peak Federer or peak Nadal > peak Delpo or peak Wawrinka

That dropshot from Novak when he saved a match point was something special.Even though i'm a serb and huge Djokovic fan i wouldnt be to sad if Delpo won this match because i always cheer for him 100% when he is not playing Novak.

Delpos big problem against Djokovic always was, that you dont beat novak with power of shot. He s just an ultimate deflective shield that will use your power against you. Unless you really stretch him out and come to net to close it out, its gonna be super tough.

I questioned the same thing, however, when you realize it's Djokovic, Nadal or Federer. It's pretty clear why these guys are among some of the best Tennis Players in history at this point, this match made it crystal clear to me. I'm very confident that should these 3 retire (I really doubt it until they hit 45+ yrs old), we'll probably see Del Potro in the Top 3 if not #1 finally.

This one felt like the final (almost). And considering how badly Djokovic lost to Nadal later, I'd say this was the highest quality match on both sides from that tournament.

@@VARMOT123 A three setter is not an indicator that the match was incredibly tight. Particularly when we have a bagel and a 6-1 final set, that's still a demolition. I don't have a horse on this race, this isn't a comment on either Djokovic or Nadal.

I think Nadal would have found him to be a main nemesis between 2010 and 2015 recall his backhand [pre 2010 was a thudding weapon that he knew how to play flat and to angle it..we will never know..

Del Potro in full flight is terrifying.

Despite I adore Rafa but really it is a great match unbelievable really

While Djoko is my favorite player ever, at times it's really frustrating to watch him live during matches and this was the same. He was on his way to comfortably win the 2nd set. Delpo saw that and went for his big shots way more and making them, but Djoko tried nothing to kinda start attacking more himself, he just let Delpo go for big shot after big shot and not try to put the pressure on himself. Look at 8:43 for example. It's a very important moment of the match, he obviously needs this tiebreak or he loses. He's leading 3-2 and a rally ensues, which is where he shines. The thing is as soon as Djoko returns it, Delpo goes on the attack, which is not Djoko's fault. But the thing is, as soon as Delpo hits a shot back at you that doesn't put you under pressure, you should try and do something to stop the opponent from just attacking like that by putting some of your own pressure. At 8:52 finally after Delpo was constantly attacking, Delpo hits a weaker shot and Djoko can try anything that's good, but instead hits it towards Delpo with no power or depth on it and Delpo attacks again. He ended up losing the point not only 'cause Delpo was amazing in the point but it's very weird for me as a spectator to see someone not put pressure on Delpo as soon as he hits a weaker ball, what do you want, try to defend until he hopefully makes a mistake? This obviously works for him plenty of times but sometimes a player is not missing or is just playing great and I wish he tried to do something to stop that. Too often he lets the player do what they want and these are big reasons why he loses to aggressive players at times. This is also why he struggles with Wawrinka in Slams because he lets Wawrinka do what he wants and not put pressure on Wawrinka. This is also why he's starting to struggle more with Thiem.

You are absolutely right, about everything in this article you are absolutely right, but this was a past Djokovic, look at the 2020 Djokovic, there is NO chance for wawrinka to do what he wants with Novak now, cause Novak learnt this lesson very well and will not let anyone control him when it REALLY matters, a great example is the semi finals of Dubai, Cincy, Finals of AO and Cincy, Novak is very close to unbeatable at the moment :)

Del Potro suffers from slow speed relative to Djokovic - which prevents him from closing point at the net for those defensive high floater slice backhands. And also impedes his own defensive game.

I remember this whole match. Although Djokovic is very strong mentally and I can't deny he's one of the best of all time, let's be honest. He didn't play well that day, he was so frustrated that he even threw his racket and the only reason why he won was Delpo's fault. He missed an incredible easy shot in the first match point. It was obvious that he wouldn't win against Nadal in the final match.

Del Potro is always top quality when he stays fit...

Even though novak mental and skills are superb ( espacially the second match point saved which is brilliant) i think delpo lost the match just because he choked badly on easy shots ! ( First match point (easy forehand where novak was going the opposite) and break point in the third set ( the most simple forehand to hit but delpo hit the net !) Anyway superb match!

Delpo clearly ran out of gas in the 3rd set. What a shame. I thought he had this one.

Being a Novak fan I will tell if del petro was fit and fine he could have won minimum 15 grand slams...I love him he is excellent player
