There's a difference between forest management and forest destruction. This is very clearly just management. Hes keeping it from encroaching on his fields and keeping it back from his fence. If you don't manage it, it becomes more and more of a problem.

The truth of this system is that when clearing brush for more pasture area at the same time you are improving the quality of the land without using chemicals. Stoney Ridge Farm is a business and in the business you are producing cattle so the more pasture that you have will produce end product and helps to pay the State and Federal taxes. Our country requires tax payers to cover the wants of big government. I enjoy your videos especially the care that you take with maintenance of the property 👍🏼💝...

This method doesn’t get rid of the trees, just cuts them down to the ground. They’ll be back in 2-3 years, clearing and burning rips the roots out

I love it when the edges of the field look neat and tidy! Mother nature just tries to keep poking out and you have to stay away further and further. That machine makes quick work of it!

We had some forestry mulching done a year ago and absolutely love the results. We will probably have them come back every 2-3 years to touch up and make further improvements.

Interesting! It appears a little undersized for some of the trees but still workable. It certainly does a nice job. Glad to see no spikes are left behind.

I have been doing the same for 10+ years on my own and would love to be able to afford one of these for my company and personal usage.I am a long way away from being able to afford one of these though.Maybe i can find a good deal on a used one?This is the way to make a lot of money in a short amount of time and as the saying goes,work smarter not harder and this definetly takes out a lot of the hard,manual work out of it!

You are absolutely right that those machines are dangerous to be around. Great footage by drone! We rented one on our farm (wish I got video). It was an absolute monster and cruised through the brush and small trees. Ended up breaking a tooth on a rock though…. Carbide teeth were needed !

This is the best way to clear properly it puts mulch down and it composts into top soil .your not digging up the ground it's just a lot better way . I've had several properties mulched it's awesome and labor saving 👍

depending on the size of the trees for sure....I totally agree...and I totally screwed up by not mulching my overgrown fields when we first bought the land.....they would be so much better off!

I have seen this forestry mulcher in another video and he has several of them. One of his is attached to a small excavator. He goes to town on a job. He is based out of South Caroliner.

Definitely hope that doors a forestry door. I was puckered up watching him cut that tree, 12 minute mark, and dropping the mulcher below the tree. That's a lot of tree aimed directly for his lap if it happened to kick back on him. Super nice job, and definitely not being a Safety Nancy about it.. just whheewww over that. 😂

Fantastic channel man. I have watched most of your videos. Truly love your work and I am not having a stir. Myself being from Australia and I am of very similar farm techniques I am interested to why you say your farming is regenerative farming. I am just starting to learn about this type of farming and in Australia the farming you and I are carrying out is not regenerative. Sorry if this causes problems and please delete if it does. I can attach some Aussie vids if that helps.

Be careful using the push bar to drag items with. The bucket cylinders are not rated for the return weight of the mulching head. Also, because the bucket cylinders are fully extended they will bend. I’m sure you know, but a kindly reminder.

How long does is take to get grass/feed to grow after mulching

I've seen other equipment do a little better and quicker on that kind of work. Some of those trees were wasted and would have made nice firewood, Josh.

time time and more time...we have enough dead standing wood on the property for firewood to last us for 10 yeasrs my friend...this is basically overgrown brush. Remember..the mulch isn't wasted...it's building the soil

Well, you are losing edge habitat for wildlife, so my first thought is if it's worth it for the fairly minimal pasture range gain? What was the total acreage gained? Not seeing the value vs the effort. I'm a Forester by the way.

We have some managed forest areas......edges for habitat abound here on the farm....but we're constructing a fence through these areas...fencing in about 25 acres of pasture so we've gotta open up some of the brush. As a forester, you well know that forest will take a pasture back in a couple years if not well maintained....and in our bottom land we're over run with invasive privet bushes

Knives are the way to go..... Carbide just doesnt cut it! ;-)

had a fell tell me that knives cut and carbide tips beat like a hammer...most certainly not the best choice unless mulching in a rock pile

depends on topography, brush v/s trees...tons of factors. Best bet is to contact a local forestry mulching company and get some bids

all for having trees but they have to complement the land and work for the farmer and there cattle running a trial on a few shrub and tree species not only for shade but a winter feed also not sure how it will go but from what i can see when the cows eat them they are not disappointed finding other feed sources i think of it i wouldn't want to eat lettuces all day every day for my hole life why would a cow ? introducing a trees or fodder would be a good thing to see on the farm love what you have done with the place.

Is it me or is does that multcher seem pretty sub-par. I've been looking at several mulchers and watched dozens of videos and they seem to devour 6, 8, 10" trees like nothing. That machine is 92HP with high flow hydro - why is it not chewing through that faster? Is he maybe being a little easy on his new (very expensive) piece of equiptment?

We ended up making some adjustments and mixing some teeth. It was very new terrain and vegetation for me so it took a little to get I the groove.

The other cpmmone issue is many times the videos are sped up to fit the footage into the video so It becomes somewhat unrealistic for what's actually happening. Hardwood trees can take some work. Running knives helps and keeping them nice and sharp.

I had this done to our land and cleared 10 acres. I would never do it again. Not taking out the trunk/roots does nothing more than a temporary fix. We have several trees growing back. The land is almost not usable for anything you plan on growing as everything underground is still there. You are better off getting a machine to push the trees over, taking the whole thing out. The price is about the same.

all you have to do is keep it mowed...if you have a stump come back...take a drill out...drill a 1/2 inch hole and drop in a little table salt...bam..it's done. You are better off pushing them up if you're putting in a lawn or septic...but not what we're doing...save your precious topsoil my friend...takes about 2 years for recovery and to get all the stumps under control...or....simply mulch in august and they will die 99% of the time
