Incarnation: What Did Jesus Do? - Understanding the Work of Christ with R.C. Sproul

So often, we think of the work of Christ as something that began when He was baptized in the Jordan River around the age of thirty. In reality, however, the work of Christ began in eternity past in the covenant of redemption. In this lecture, Dr. Sproul explains how the humiliation of Christ in His incarnation and crucifixion, and the exaltation of Christ in His resurrection and ascension are both grounded in the eternal covenant among the persons of the Trinity.

    When it speaks of “Therefore, God has given Him the Name above all names…I believe the implication of the passage is that He not only rightly already that role from time eternal, but in His perfect performance of His incarnate duties He-in effect-has actually EARNED such status back on top of it rightfully being His from all time!

    Excellent teaching from Dr. Sproul, he could have mentioned the Nestorian heresy, that we are not to divide the two natures of Christ which sadly many do today, so thus we affirm that Mary is the Theotokos, that is "God bearer".

    Actually Chalcedon does keep him divided, but says paradoxically that he is not divided. I think it was wrong. Jesus had one nature, that of a man, but with the spiritual identity of God, the Logos.

    @@kianis1206 Yes, good reply. But the problem with Chalcedon is that they did keep Jesus divided, they just used paradoxical language to describe him. What they said in essence is that he was divided but still united. For example, they said, "the same Christ, Son, Lord, Only-begotten, to be acknowledged in two natures, without confusion, without change, without division, without separation; the distinction of natures being by no means taken away by the union, but rather the property of each nature being preserved..." See how they managed to say there was no confusing of the two natures, yet they were without division? So which is it? How does that work? So how then does one person have limited knowledge yet omniscience? Wouldn't his omniscience totally overcome his limited knowledge? In reality, it doesn't work. Jesus was always God in in his identity of the divine Logos, which never changed in the Incarnation. The Logos spirit was transformed into a man's. He also had the Holy Spirit given without limits after his baptism, so much so that to see him was to see the Father working through him. Every thing he said and did was from the Father. Yet he didn't know the time of his return because he really didn't know. Does that make sense?

    The modus operandi of Christ appearing on earth was the incarnation of the Holy Spirit in a Virgin. What generated a divine and human Being in his nature. But this question arises: is this incarnation the only way for Christ to appear on earth? My research leads me to think not. We cannot forget that Christ will still appear a second time on this earth...

Today is the day of salvation you can not go back to yesterday, tomorrow is not promise, so right now! Now! Now! Is the day moment second of salvation, jesus is coming, like it or not He is God, you are appointed to die once then the judgement= sentence= heaven or hell! Is your choice!,, we are all sinners don’t trust in your own goodness! Test yourself with the moral law!

    2:32-2:54 - “Covenant of redemption. And that covenant is not a covenant that God makes with human beings. Rather the covenant of redemption refers to a pact or an agreement that takes place in eternity within the Godhead” - something which the Bible doesn’t have a single verse it speaks about, but theologians made up according to their imagination. Something which amazingly even within circles that so emphasize only going by the Bible, only by the Bible, if the Bible doesn’t have a verse on it, then it’s not true, they amazingly believe ...

    It mean exactly that, God the Father changes into flesh through His word, from the seed of a woman. His word became the image of Him. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily Col2:9 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.Jn14:7 I and my Father are one.Jn10:30 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word means the Word of the Father. A man's word means the word of that man. That man's word is with him since he was born. So what's with the Trinity? there are none, but a heresy. - that person of flesh and blood from the seed of the woman had died on the cross. What you people have now is the image of God the Father that is Christ. hope some would understand.

    Can't agree. The Kenotic theory actually is correct, except that Jesus never lost spiritual identity of the Logos, so he always was deity. However, he did not do miracles by his own power, but it was the Father dwelling in him. It was after the Holy Spirit came upon him he did miracles, not before. This idea that he had two natures is not in agreement with the Scriptures and gives us a Lord with MPD!

    people, you need to listen intently, Sproul says that the divine side of Christ did not reveal to human side of Christ....yet many passages in scripture it says He knew His own or He knew their hearts or He knew who would betray Him...folks you cannot have one with out the other...if His divine side did not convey to the human side then how could Jesus explain to His disciple what was to become or how could Jesus explain to those walking on the road with Him in Luke that all things of the OT were written of Him by Moses, the Psalms and the prophets and how He opened their minds... Sometimes, I wonder if any of y'all actually read the Holy Writ, or do you just get carried away by every wind of doctrine that is preached....smh!!!

    I don't see in Scripture were he had two natures. He did miracles by the Father in him. He did and spoke what the Father showed him. He was given the Holy Spirit without measure. That is where his power come from. Yet his identity was that of the Logos, who was God.

    The word 'incarnation' is a human construction in an attempt to justify a 2nd/3rd century church doctrine! It Suggests that 'God put on human flesh, but was still God' e.t.c. This is completely unfounded in the NT that tells us about Christ "Though he was rich he BECAME poor for our sakes" & "He emptied himself and came to be in the likeness of a man ( servant)" also "The word BECAME flesh" and "Father glorify me with the glory I HAD before the world was". ( 2 Cor 8:9.. Phil 2:7. John 17:5). On that last text, ask yourself why would Jesus ask the Father to "glorify him" again, if he was '100% man & 100% God while on earth? No Jesus was a PERFECT MAN, the Son of God who became the "second Adam" by a substitutary RANSOM for our sins! ( 1 Tim 2:6 Greek 'Lutron' a substitue. See Vines ).

    Sorry, Jesus isn’t God, nor equal to God. He called our God and Father his God and Father at John 20:17. See also: 1 Corinthians 8:4-6 4 Now concerning the eating of food offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world and that there is no God but one. 5 For even though there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,” 6 there is actually to us one God, the Father, from whom all things are and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are and we through him. And…… John 17:3 “This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.” The only true God…..

    John 1:14 " The word BECAME flesh and we had a view of his glory, a glory of an ONLY BEGOTTEN SON from the Father & he was full of undeserved kindness and truth". 'Became' Greek 'Ginomai' Same word in John 2:9 "The water BECAME wine". It wasnt water that 'appeared to be like' or 'was still water but was clothed with wine' it WAS wine! Thus the non biblical word 'incarnation' that is a 'God assuming the form of a human, is totally FALSE! Jesus Christ WAS a complete human being, but he was unlike Adam, being Perfect! ( Heb 4:15 & 1 Cor 15:45) He is called 'Son of Man' and a 'Man' by the apostles. Not till the 2nd century was he wrongly viewed as 'God in the flesh' which wouldnt make sense if the 'trinity' was still intact in heaven will he was on earth

  • @kiwihans100
    @kiwihans10014 күн бұрын

    Definition of INCARNATION: "A central doctrine of the Christian faith which affirms that God took human form in the body of Christ. In other words, God was 'in-carnated' in human flesh. This is FALSE! since Jesus was NOT 'God clothed with flesh' or 'God and a man at the same time'. The bible is clear that the "Word BECAME flesh" ( Not 'put on') Just as Paul states in 1 Cor 15:45 "The First man BECAME a living soul". Thus he WAS what he was! a Human!. Thus God's Son came down from heaven ( as he mentioned 13 times in John chapter 5 & 6) he BECAME, totally a MAN, yet perfect! At his baptism then The Father "declared him 'My beloved Son'. 2 Cor 8:9 says "Though he was rich ( a glorious Spirit in th 'bosom of his Father') he BECAME poor ( yes 'lower than the angels, Heb 2:9) a PERFECT MAN, the complete correspondance of Adam to "give his soul as a ransom for many" ( Matt20:28). Thus neither the word or concept is taught inthe bible! ( had he been God all the time he was on earth, Paul would not have said "He BECAME POOR", he'd have still been rich!
