    reminds me of “otherlife” or whatever the movie was called In case you haven’t watched it, some lady discovers a way to cause people to vividly hallucinate, and tries to use it to give people life experiences they otherwise couldn’t Some higher up in the company wants to also use it for the penile system She refuses, somethings happen, she has a night stand or something, her ‘date’ then asks about her work, causing her to run a snowboarding hallucination (the movie also calls then simulations), he wants to go again, accidentally starts a scuba diving one while she’s not looking, has a seizure and dies She’s arrested, and looking at manslaughter, but the higher up somehow convinces the court to just use a hallucination of a jail for a year, which is actually just a concrete box with one massive LED screen counting the days Except it bugs, and instead of releasing her at 365, it resets the counter, and she manages to break out of the cell Eventually she does get out of the hallucination, to which the higher up says they need to study how she broke out of the prison within what should be a controlled hallucination, so he forces her into it again This time, when she gets out, she forced him into it

    Joe did 370 revolutions in 10 hours which means 0.6 revolutions per minute for 10 hours which is impossible if you watch how slow the wheel moves in the movie. Also that amount of calories they feed him would not allow such

  • @kevinjudd846

    @kevinjudd846

    7 ай бұрын

    I think there's an error in your calculations. 10 hours = 600 minutes = 36,000 seconds. (ignoring meals/breaks) 36,000 seconds divided evenly into 370 revolutions over the course of the day would still provide 97.3 seconds per revolution. (36,000/370 = 97.297...) or 1.621 minutes if you prefer. Which is a little over a minute and a half per revolution, which would be plenty of time and definitely possible to do, as long as we ignore the weight/effort involved in turning the wheel itself for that long (as he's definitely depicted as struggling with even a single revolution, so doing more than 10 already seems unrealistic to me). Now if we were to imagine he was able to maintain a slightly higher rate of roughly one revolution every minute and 15 seconds, he would be able to finish 370 revolutions in only 7.7 hours. (370 x 75 = 27,750 seconds of work | 27,750/60 = 462.5 minutes of work | 462.5/60 = 7.7083... hours of work) Which would leave a little over 2 hours for meals and breaks over the course of the day, which is probably more breaktime than some people get at their actual jobs. So the only real obstacle we're facing is the reality of turning the wheel and if he's strong enough to turn it that many times at all, but if we assume he strong and capable enough, he has plenty of time.

    @@terskataneli6457 Dang, you're not wrong. I think I initially misread "revolutions per minute" as "minutes per revolution" which threw me off. But I did also spend some time breaking down how I believe that they should still have plenty of time to turn the wheel over the course of the day, so I still think it's worth reading. But yeah, we just presented the numbers a little differently. 0.6 revolutions per minute, vs 1.6 minutes per revolution.

Even if it is just a simulation with compressed time it would be torture to make someone experience months of this which is likely why they use a non disclosure agreement. @@SpaghettiToaster Weirdly, I am not actually sure that what they did is illegal. Oftentimes the weird laws that are on the books only because someone got away with it at least once. For example, in Illinois it's illegal to have ice cream in your back pocket. Why? Because someone put ice cream in their back pocket to lure a horse. If caught he'd be able to say that the horse just followed him. If not suddenly the horse is abandoned and free to claim. The law exists because someone got away with something that was technically not illegal. So, back to the story: He was never actually imprisoned. Sure, they caused severe emotional harm, and if he sued them they'd be liable for tort damage and if he told the press it would hurt their brand image, but both situations can be remedied with a lawsuit. If a real life company did this today they'd face no criminal penalties if caught, but lawmakers would probably make it illegal if enough people learned about it and only then would it stop.

When a company spots a person like this, they will squeeze the lemon for every drop it's worth. The irony is that the harder and better you work, the less likely you are to get promoted and succeed and the more work and responsibility you are given. Eventually these people realize that doing the work of 5 people is not beneficial to them for the same pay as 1 person and decide to slow it down by 50%. They are still over performing every other single employee and now doing the work of 2-3 but since their metrics technically dropped from what they showed they were capable of, they are fired. Capitalisms problem is simply that talent and hard work are never compensated accordingly or in proportion to what you contribute to a company. Often times it's more based on power/hierarchy where the laziest/most incompetent get paid more or the same while a few people single handedly carry the company and are given peanuts for doing so. Capitalism and Communism are both dogshit and oppressive unless you are the tyrant. The only difference is that capitalism is good at tricking low intelligence people into thinking they have free will and choice and there's endless opportunities if you "work hard enough " 😂

    @@reesew71 Putting in effort used to be rewarded. Maybe for some people it is, but others bust their ass on the daily, working retail, food service, delivery, other "essential" services that were made to keep working in-person through even a global pandemic, while getting paid like absolute crap the whole while. Some of these people work multiple of these jobs and still barely make enough for rent and food. And you can't just say for them to go somewhere else - every one of those companies is like this. Literally the same crap with different branding. I've been there.

    I'm kind of surprised how many people just immediately think that nothing good would happen out of this movie. They all seem to agree it is a good concept, just wouldn't sit though it? I'm not even sure why. From start to Finish, this was an amazing movie without one dull moment. Well worth the watch with one hell of a twist at the end. Too many people judge a book by its cover. Kind of crazy.

If you have a Job you need to understand that your goals are not to be productive for a reward, your goal is to be productive to make the company more money. It is your choice to work for them so don't blame them. Blame yourself. You are paid to show up and stay you are threatened with termination to work.
