In the Screening Room with Ethan Hawke and Maya Hawke
Ойын-сауық
Ethan Hawke and Maya Hawke detail their history of watching movies together, which ones they have distinct memories of, and which ones informed their new film, Wildcat. Wildcat captures the artistic life of author Flannery O'Connor, and is in limited release in the US starting May 3, with expansion to new cities thereafter.

I love these two, I love watching people be EXCITED about art, and not just the movies they love, but how they're made, and who makes them, and with what, and it's just so neat.

Completely
Maya is a student of film and she loves to talk about movies with her dad. Ethan did a great job raising his daughter.

Yeah but the problem is the other Zoomers who have never seen a movie made before 2000. She’s the exception

is that a fuckin sleeping dogs reference?????
Maya was born in 1998 but she’s a true film buff. Ethan and Uma raised her well.
Why is this only 21 minutes long? I could’ve listened to them talk about movies for hours and hours.
Well this was simply delightful.
Love the two Hawkes how they talk about movies and their doggos🤩🐶🎬.
Their love and happiness talking about films is infecting! Such a joy to see/hear them both. Interesting that Ethan and Vincent D'Onofrio are best friends (apparently both great dads) and they made films with their daughters. I would loved to see a conversation, sitting on couches, having coffee and talking about acting and parenting with the four of them.
They are both so passionate, and they feed off of each other's enthusiasm. It's so fun to watch.
too many people have podcasts but… if they had one..
I could have watched them "talk shop" all day. This feeds my soul, man I love film.
I love how they talk about movies 😊
Please make more of these with different teams. That being said I could listen to Ethan Hawke talk movies forever. And Maya is definitely growing on me as a young actor.
Must be so cool to have a daughter that shares your passion & you can introduce to great films. Guess watching them experience those films you love for the first time is as close as you can get to reliving the joy of seeing those great films yourself for the first time. They made some great choices here too. Days Of Heaven is one of my all-time favourites.

You’re absolutely right, Days Of Heaven is an all-timer for dang sure!…It’s like every frame is a painting 🖼️, every scene so beautiful no matter how sad, an astonishing film that for some odd reason I find myself thinking about very often…..
Maya is so very lucky she was enrolled in the school of the arts and movie making since she was a child via her exuberant and extremely talented dad whose knowledge base is limitless. I am also sure she was given exceptional guidance from her beautiful and equally talented mother too. She has blossomed so expertly. I enjoy her music so much and i hope to see her live one day. Thank you for this great interview between the Hawkes.

Exactly. That's what the whiners who cry "nepo baby" don't get: Children of actors might have a leg up on their peers, but it's not nepotism. It's what you just described. Is that unfair? Maybe, if you want to get philosophical about it. But it's hardly anyone's fault.
The joy these two and this video bring me. Not to mention Letterboxd and the art of film. THANK YOU.
What a fab father-daughter conversation and reflection on film watching. Enjoying my own process of this with my two teens now 😍
I love this so much.... from the deconstruction of the biopic to the proper assessment of when to use voiceover and went to not to the dogs and blanket, this is just so chill and cool
I love this video. It's great seeing father and daughter discuss their experiences with the art of film.
So Ethan is the world’s greatest dad, too. Figures. He’s such a fascinating man.
This is great. More of this pls lb! So many of my favourite films mentioned here like Amadeus and Nashville.
I think this is the first time I've ever seen someone talk about Arctic Thunder in the wild.

I used to love that sht. So much so I grabbed it on the ps2… but it could never beat playing it in the arcade before seeing a movie.
I need to befriend these 2 people!…They have impeccable taste in 🎥….Cuckoo’s Nest, Nashville AND Days Of Heaven?….Come on now y’all!!!
Can you please try and get an interview with Michael Haneke!!!
Thank you!!
10:00 professionals could hate something difficult because it makes their job more difficult. artists could love something difficult because it opens the new horizons.
Love these types of conversation pure love passion and excitement in evey word.
Finally Paper Moon getting some genuine love. Fantastic film
The passion is infectious!
LOVED THIS VIDEO
I haven’t seen Nashville 😬 BUT, it sounds a lot like one of my all-time faves, Ross McElwee’s Sherman’s March doc. Immersive, strange, completely compelling snapshot of the South and a very particular moment in time.
Two incredible artists
I love the passion for there craft awesome 👌
Every clip I see with Ethan and Maya talking makes me wish I was friends with them. Sophisticated conversations to be had
Winter Light 🤣 omg I LOVE Paper Moon ✨I’ve watched every clip with these two, they’re so cool. It’s like watching the same person in two different bodies have a conversation.
Multi-generational brilliance enhanced by a rarely seen level of understanding and empathy!
Alan's Alley!!!! I used to live down the street from there. Great place to get lost in.
Nashville sneaks up on you - so great. It’s like you’re in the movie when watching it… like their suggestions in the criterion video these choices are amazing too… I like the idea of movie as lieu du memoire
First Reformed, Blaze and Juliet, Naked....he had an amazing 2018....plus Maudie in 2017
Found malik's Badlands to be as beautiful as Days of Heaven, if you haven't seen it. Sissy Spacek and Martin Sheen are marvels both.
Nice “Papillon” poster

Amazing film…Top Ten on my fav all timers for dang sure…..Dustin is a revelation throughout!
Wonderful Wonderful
This is where things like The Muppet Show were so great at. They wanted to get the kids and the adults to be interested in what was going on.
The dogs !!!!
I was floored, shocked & a fan for life after Mr.Hawke showed me it's all ok in Dead Poets Society, I write everyday because of one day in 1989, 1000 thank you's...
best duo
good work, but just for the record, the JIM CROW SOUTH was an EXCELLENT place and time. Before my time but everyone had a good time in jim crow south.
Movies inspire life... Maya is result of Gattaca s genetics 💞🙌🏽
Yes
The dogs sleeping are adorable. Is that a painting of the leads in Papillon in Maya's place?
Father daughter goals
these 2 are awesome. can we get maya talk shop w/ her mom?
I want a podcast from the both of them talking about art. Or anything.
Love Maya in Asteorid city!
Upper right-hand corner, looks like Maya owns the Jacques Demy boxed set from Criterion?
The father and daughter relationship dream ❤
Have you seen McCabe and Mrs. Miller or Images (both by Altman)? They have the beauty you admire in Malik but are done in the darker tones of Altman. Both directors seem to have a gift for meandering away from their main characters or an event we thought they wanted us to witness.
that film wildcat looks interesting
His talks on filmmaking are always informative and worth seeking out. Maya looks like her Dad and makes the same inflections, but she *sounds* like her Mom. She needs to be B.B. Kiddo.
She's never looked more like her mom, and I can tell you looking at your kid and seeing your significant other is a fn trip I feel for Ethan. Both great!
I don't know what it is about Ethan Hawke. I have a similar takeaway here that I did experiencing film dialogue with Julie Delpie, only this between father and daughter. Perhaps blaming it on the edit, but I wish I could have that type of rapport.
Amadeus🏆
I can only hope that I have a relationship like this with my son, when he's older.
They are so cute together
put Maya Hawke in Kill Bill 3 Quentin!
If I could talk to Ethan Hawke I would talk about Jed the Wolf/Dog.
cute doggo.

we would love to do this with PTA
I get the feeling that Maya may have been annoyingly precocious as a child, but she's more than appropriately articulate and intelligent now as an adult.
Yeah, but…Winter Light still rules.
This rips
i only see 2 adorable dogs sleeping 😑
Could we please ask these two to do host the olympics with snoop dog and Chris rock?
🌈My wife and I met Ethan Hawke at a Wildcat premiere (post film / Q+A) on Sunday in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was INCREDIBLY rude and awkward 😭. Sort of falls into the "DON'T MEET YOUR HEROES" category lol 💔.. 😔 I still love his work, but it's hard to call myself a fan of his, at this point.. 😢

@@cinemasprite After the screening, before the Q+A: We asked Mr. Hawke to sign a book of his that we had and told him that we loved his movie. He said nearly nothing to us and did a really half assed signature. I ended up burning the book when I got home because it felt like a totem of negativity I was carrying around, honestly. I have another unsigned copy in storage that I'm going to keep though 🥰. After the Q+A, my wife took a photo of Mr. Hawke and I and (ONCE AGAIN) he said LITERALLY NOTHING TO US and was incredibly awkward when we were trying to compliment him + his works.. Maybe it was an off day on his part? His wife was waiting for him during the pictures SOOO.. yea, idk. It's the only celebrity encounter I've ever had that gave me TRUE ICK..
Ethan Hawke is kind of looking like a white Cornell West.
paguenme la renta
Better than siskel and eibert….
This is hard to watch considering none of them had a problem with a father directing his daughter in a sex scene
