In the making: First Ultra Long Range A350 XWB delivered to Singapore Airlines

Airbus has delivered the first A350-900 Ultra Long Range (ULR) aircraft to launch customer Singapore Airlines (SIA). The latest variant of the best-selling A350 XWB is capable of flying further in commercial service than any other aircraft, with a range of up to 9,700 nautical miles, or over 20 hours non-stop. Altogether, SIA has ordered seven A350-900ULR aircraft, configured in a two-class layout, with 67 Business Class seats and 94 Premium Economy Class seats. More info: www.airbus.com/newsroom/press...

It's a very pretty plane. I'm shocked Boeing let them have this victory rather than fixing up the commonality of the 787-8 sooner. With the Trent TEN, and given the -9 and -10 are stretches of the -8 with the -9 and -10 having the newer laminar tail and aft section, the -8 should be able to fly with 260 passengers and full cargo for 18,400km, more than enough to make the SIN-EWR and SIN-ORD routes. I think THAT is why Airbus announced the A350 NEO so soon. They need an improvement in economics and quickly. Only problem is if they're banking on the Trent Ultrafan then Boeing can turn right around and do the same to the 787. But, the proposed A350-2000 (NEO) would become a real problem for the 777X using a GTF (seriously can't believe Boeing went with an Aluminum body and a dual shaft engine. And seriously can't believe airlines have bought it. Guess they really WERE desperate to offload their 747s...) My calculation for that is based on the latest specs from modernarliners.com which has the 787-9 with the Trent TEN able to cover 15,700km and the 787-10 able to cover 13,000km. Obviously the scaling won't be exactly the same, but even lightening the cargo load of the 787-8 some can make up any remaining differences without needing to sacrifice 40% of the PAX.

The new winglets on the A350-900URL looks so much sleeker! Congrats Singapore Airlines! :D
Already flew in an normal a350 a couple months ago. Such a smooth plane and so quiet, just awesome.

when Europe of aviation does better than usa! some had trouble accepting the reality, it does not matter we do not care, we built a factory in the usa to build A320! no us factory in Europe !! LOL

I love A330 cockpit but yes 787 is awesome too.
Congrats Airbus & SIA. This will be flying non-stop between Singapore & New York with unique seating arrangements. Only premium economy & business class seats. Would definitely like to see more such A350ULR flying around. The A350 in wide body & A320neo family in narrow body aircraft are my favorite ones. The A321LR too has similar windshield design like that of A350. Looks really nice. Keep it up Airbus & yes, please increase the production rate of A320neo family aircrafts. We in India are awaiting several new routes to be opened post further deliveries of the aircrafts.
