Here in Round Rock, after the February Winter Storm Uri, my plant looked like it had died and was never going to come back. However, the after scratching the small stunted branches with my finger nail, there was still 'green' underneath. Believe it or not, it came roaring back, it's now back over 6' tall~! And it will be good to prune back in February(but not too early in the month)...Thanks for the overview.

Birds, especially Cardinals love this tree during rainstorms here in Georgia. The seem to like it’s sage-like leaf fragrance and rub against them.

Can’t wait to see my vitex grow, let’s just say I’ll prune it like I do my butterfly bushes... I hate when people commit “crepe murder.” 🤣

i hate crepe murder too. i am 5'4" and i prune so i can see under it. keep the center open. trim limbs that are hanging too low or are crossed. and i need to spend a whole day spraying to keep them from getting that fungus. i use propiconazole. and sometimes i have to use something for those white mealy bugs. i like to throw 13-13-13 at it in the spring, some bayer rose bush granules, and then a spray fertilizer, probably foliar. and maybe some super phos. mine look really pretty. some people think they are common. i am trying to find out if vitex is a danger to plumbing or foundation. i planted one 5 feet from the water meter in the hell strip and 5 feet from the street. do i need to move it this fall?

@@lianagilbert61 the crepe myrtle are pretty resistant to a lot of things and need little care, probably why they’re all over the south here. I say don’t fuss over it too much unless you get something serious. My late grandfather planted ours years ago and I think they’re 25ft tall now but there are dwarf forms available so if you remember what variety you purchased you can look it up and see how tall it gets, you might now need to move it. I planted one that is only supposed to get about 15ft tall. But then again these tags are notorious for lying. Happy growing! 🤣❤️

@@lianagilbert61 vitex are listed as invasive but as in how they propagate, the roots aren’t invasive.

those are beautiful. i have to replant mine. i think it is too close to the water meter by the street. i probably have it 5 feet away from the meter and 5 feet from the street on my hellstrip. should i move it this fall?

Hi Dave, great video! I have a smaller Vitex that is about a 15 gallon. Once it blooms in summer, the blooms only last a couple of weeks. How do I get it to bloom again? Should I be deadheading the blooms after they die? Or just leave it alone until I prune it again in Wimter/early Spring?

I planted 5 Vitex bushes 7/06/22. They ALL look good, new leaves and full of buds but WHEN will the buds open to flowers purple? Also on 1 bush 2 FAT green caterpillars striped almost 1 bush. On identification site some said Hornworm and bad, others said Hummingbird Moth. I took them off bush and put out on back empty property, but if anyone knows they were HUGE and bright green. I am in zone 9B Florida. thankyou

I heard you say, can be cut down each ear to the ground! I just did that to my right text seven-year-old right text bushes that were 5 feet tall. I am being told I killed him and I feel horrible because they were so beautiful. Did I destroy them? I live in California high Desert. They were blooming and blooming and blooming like crazy. I don’t know what got into me. Please give me advice. I just proved him two weeks ago 😢
